    My son and I both liked the trees better! I like the contrast with the sky. The lake mirrors the sky. Very cool build!

    WOW! This is so beautiful! I am building out my 1988 chevy and I have so many pieces of miscut wood and I am trying to figure out what to do with all the mis cut pieces haha. I want to make the mistakes into something beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration!

    This is a neat idea! I think I prefer the lake design.... You could make a nice serving/tea tray with a similar design, it would just need to be a bit smaller scale and probably have all the pieces be the same height.

    • @EveningWoodworker

      Yeah that would look sweet as a tray as long as you seal it somehow!

    I love your videos and have been a subscriber for a while. I was pleasantly surprised to see you pop up in the virtual BYU men’s choir video. Super cool to have stumbled across a fellow alum. I vote for the lake, but it is a close call. They are both amazing.

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Look at some examples online and figure out what look you want. Then just pick the locations of your peaks and start laying it out from the top down to the base. Everything else is just filled in.

      @@EveningWoodworker Nice :) I ended up making just lines instead of mountains (for this first try) and it took me 7 hours ...what a mess. Just have to stain it and add hangers. Yay.

  • @RobNezz

    This is a great idea, I like it a lot. Especially the varying thickness to give a 3D aspect to it.
    How many different stain colors did you use in the mountains? It looks like 3 or maybe 4? (Not including the white snow cap). Thanks.
    My fave was the trees

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! There are three stains on the mountains, and the sky is a mix of blue, white, and black.

  • @governorcooder

    Great work! How did you figure out the length for each strip on the mountains? That’s the part that gives me the most anxiety 😁

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start with the white mountaintops, once those are locked in place, then cut everything to fit those. I just cut a bunch of slats first. Once they're all cut, then stain the lower pieces.

  • @manubisbee1
    @manubisbee1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Did I miss it? How do you get the angles for and measurements for each cut???

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All the angles are 45s and 90s. For the dimensions, it's all just making it fit whatever design you come up with. Each piece is 1.5" wide.

    Watching all kinds of videos on this process and most use glue and nails. Is the brand of glue you used the key in not needing to also nail?

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The nails are usually overkill. CA glue dries fast so it's easy to lock down pieces in position. Everything then gets added around that. Even wood glue will be fine if you press it down and just don't flip anything over until it's dry

    • @EveningWoodworker

    Curious to know how it looks a few months later. Did you see a lot of wood movement?

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It still looks essentially the same. It helps to start out with wood that's mostly dry, but for the 1/8" stuff i stained the plywood dark behind it so any gaps wouldn't stand out.

  • @Wendy-Davis

    I like them both. Great job! I was wondering about the Starbond - do you know if it will hold the pieces on long term, like the wood glue will?

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tested starbond in a structural application where it is holding a lot of weight, but in this situation, it's not carrying much weight at all so it should be fine. You can also do a combination of both... starbond on either end and yellow glue in the middle.

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it was kona, carrington, and early American, but the blue parts were a combination of blue, gray, and white. Just get some small jars and see what you like!

  • @bs838
    @bs838 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish you had given some detail on how you cut such small angled pieces. It's super dangerous to do this on the miter saw typically, unless you have hold down sticks, zero clearance fence/throatplate, sandpaper etc. And on the table saw it would require a miter sled...

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry I didn't go into much detail on that. For the small pieces I cut off the tip of a much longer board on the miter saw that I could safely hold, or i used a scroll saw or a sander. The lake design though didn't require any extra tools to cut more complex tiny pieces. Just cut off the top of a long board
