    Like Isaac I’m the sort of freak who likes climbing…
    1/ know your limits, work within them
    2/ Use your gears properly, climbing (mostly) should mean no more effort, just going slower in the right gear
    3/ make sure your gearing is right for your rides, longer rides and you’ll need a lower lowest gear to keep your bodies efforts within your limits

    We all spend much more time climbing than descending .. I’d love to watch “ how to” videos about getting up technical climbs. I followed a skilled climber up one of my local trails and was amazed that she cleaned a section I always walked. I asked her to show me how, and now I always clean it. You folks surely have the skills to help us all improve the thing we do the most.. climbing on a mountain bike. ( disclaimer - If my wheels get more than 6 inches off the ground, something unplanned has happened )

    I love it but I do have an ebike 😅😂. It's perfect as you can tailor your workout. You can still have that challenge and "workout" but you don't have to let it get too much for you.

    Coming from the road, I've discovered it's good to climb with something in reserve so you can punch over a technical section or up an especially steep pitch. If you're at the limit, those features will stop you dead in your tracks!

  • @tomrodriguez9052

    I guess I'm in it for something different, I like riding out in the middle of nowhere, with no computers, really see the surroundings. Maybe it's better to not know you're about to do a 3 mile climb. The views, the discovery, the mental challenge that you have to find your way back out. Adventure cycling, you're missing a lot if you are just going downhill and worrying about stats all the time.

  • @grannyjone
    @grannyjone 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Yes it is possible to enjoy climbing, on an ebike. Especially on a good uphill trail that is good fun and has right level of tech. On a normal manual bike I started to find the climbs not too bad when I realised its not worth trying to pedal up everything and started walking more, with better pushing technique as well

  • @snowman22ism

    It's not the climbing I love it's the challenge it presents to me. I look at a hill and think there's no way I can get up that and then do my best to try and get up that. There have been a few hills I never thought I would conquer but it may have taken years but there are a few I have eventually gotten to the top of. And it's such a good feeling of accomplishment. Gravity helps you go downhill but it certainly doesn't help you go up

    Polarising your effort is what you automatically get when you ride a singlespeed bike. You MUST save your energy for the tough climbs, otherwise you will be toast after the first one! Although I don't ride singlespeed too much these days I still ride a bit like it. I think that at the end of the day it teaches you to pace yourself. Oh, and I still love climbing!

    Here's how I make climbing easier. Keep every thing as light weight as possible: bike, gear, clothes, and yourself. Just a few pounds can make a big difference. Use the lightest fastest-rolling tires that you can tolerate. Set up the rear suspension just a little on the firm side to minimize pedal bob. Install a a smaller chainring. I love my granny gear with the 28 tooth chainring on the 52 tooth cog.

    • @radiocontrolled9181
      @radiocontrolled9181 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No need to set up my rear suspension on my hardtail. Fast rolling light tires yes, but not forgetting excellent puncture resistance as otherwise you'll be changing or repairing inner tubes more often than you hope. Messy tubeless is not for me. No need to install a smaller chainring, got it already, a 22T. I have 22,34,42 up front and 12-28 cassette at the rear on my 3x7. Works like a dream on steep climbs plus I don't run out of gears on fast sections of paved roads with a tailwind. And my chain line is always reasonably straight 😁

    • @vadymvv
      @vadymvv 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@radiocontrolled9181 3x7 is not suitable for woods, I couldn't change rear and front chainrings fast enough. For slow pace it is normal.

    I’ve recently started to enjoy the climbs, always hated them and still do lol. But I’ve started to learn to like them, but only to a certain extent. My asthma/heart rate gives out before anything else does and it frustrates me beyond belief. My legs can climb/ride all day, but once my heart starts to pound and I can’t catch my breath I’ll be bonked for the rest of the day and not be able to ride properly. I’ve gotten better at pacing myself, but I still can’t do too long of climbs

    Slightly off topic...OMG ! I suppose you good people at GMBN would have no idea what fun it is for a 70 year old to climb a hill faster than some are comfortable with going down. I’m talking DIY high power e-bike with throttle. Uphill is a whole new sensation. And it can be very difficult...you need to know when to cut power and use your legs.
    Well, that how I enjoy climbing on my bike, I added a motor.😮

    Segment about enjoying your climb was more boring than climbing itself!

    Climbing is part of it, to get to the top of a hill to go downhill you have to pedal to the top 😅
