- Beat Saber is amazing and provides a ton of benefits. But, some of those become harder to enjoy when you move to Beat Saber's Expert or Expert+ difficulty. Here are some tips to help you along your journey to play more safely and improve your performance to get higher scores and start tackling the higher difficulty levels that Beat Saber has to offer!

A couple additional suggestions: If playing the PSVR version, play through the campaign. It does a great job training and getting one familiar with the nuances of the game. Get good with hard difficulty before tackling expert. Also one can now use player settings to slow down a song and even pick a certain spot to start for practicing those difficult moments (clicking on the "hat" icon give the speed and starting time options) You give a lot of great tips here! As far as my favorite songs, Angel Voices, Overkill, and This Time are currently the ones I have the most fun with. I recently got the platinum trophy, have all the Monstercat Pack songs beaten on hard with full combos and working on expert.
Also it's worth mentioning for those who see vids and are like "I don't like that music" I'd tell them to try it regardless. I'd never listen to any of this music by itself but in the context of the game it's fantastic.

Overkill is my JAM out of all the new tracks! I'm missing a lot of the 'hard' trophies as I don't ever play it on that now but I'm gonna go back and pick them up at some point.
Completely agree- initially I wasn't hot on every track when I first started playing but they definitely grow on you as you get into it!
You definitely have to play outside your music bias or you learn nothing. Most patterns stick to one or two gimmicks the whole time lol.
@@mr.voidout4739 Definitely! I don't know how things are for PCVR custom songs, but the stuff officially released definitely have patterns that took some time to recognize, but are crucial to take advantage of when playing the highest difficulties.
The Game Grinder i did a expert on the first day i tryed it.. and a expert+ on my 5th day.
The point is to make you go insane mostly in expert +

Yo! For blocks that go in a cross pattern (like, blue on left and red on right) practice not crossing your arms but Instead tilt your sabers inward, you'll be less likely to hurt yourself and it's easier to spring back for the next pattern

Well many thanks! But I promise you I also had some horrible ideas and less-than-ideal production equipment. It's better now but I think my chief strength was/is refusing to quit. So, if everything in my life went belly-up at the same time I'd still be making videos however I could, even it it was just on my phone and uploading through McDonald's wifi :p

The colors of the bulbs on the controller are irrelevant to the colors of the sabers in the game. My blue saber is always the red controller lol

I play on PC using Oculus, and am mostly able to do Expert level tracks now (and some expert + songs). I play exclusively custom songs so, my main problem is the sections where people have really fast up-down sections. I like to call these "drumrolls", and they are the bain of my existence.
I can do them for like... 1-2 second stretches, but then I suddenly fall out of rhythm, miss every last one, and insta-fail.
I can usually take damn near anything an expert level can throw at me but MAN... those drumroll sections ruin me.
I struggle with the up/down sections as well. When they're in rapid succession it SHOULD be easy to wrap my head around but always seem to get offbeat during the 'drumrolls'. :p

@@YourPlayer2 It's a Custom Song hahaha But a pretty known one at that. Idk if PSVR has Custom Songs, if not, then i'm terribly sorry for you :D And with the new Oculus S coming out soon you should have no trouble playing it. It will be pretty affortable.
Hehehe it does not but I'll step up to my Oculus at some point! I have the Rift just don't have my machine well situated for VR at present but it's on the to-do list :p

Pemtatronix is deffo my fave too finally completed it today only with a b rating. After a full month of practising off and on and splitting the song up in practise mode
I’m not a huge fan of the artist “SIA” but the custom song that has both “hard” and “expert” options is done so well. I end up feeling like I’m some sort of important composer directing an orchestra. Everything gels together perfectly and it’s taken a fair while to master just the hard setting but I’ve only been playing for about 5 hours total.
For built in games, I like 100 dollar bills.

Great tips but there's no way in hell I would play this on Expert difficulty... it would be a miracle if I was able to play this on Easy mode... considering that my coordibation sucks lol! Great video and keep up the good work!

So I got the PSVR delivered yesterday! I played for 2 hours! Last night before bed I ordered the charging station! A must have!! This game is soooo much fun! What a workout too! Love it!!!!

I've only just started playing but I've mastered give a little love on hard with the speed up modifier and I love it
That's awesome! I usually play expert with the speed modifier on but haven't really taken a great run at Expert+ yet or anything.

One of my favorite songs is a download one on expert+. It's called whatever it takes and it's a a lot of fast moving walls. This makes me do a lot of doing while hitting the fast notes and as a person that used to do karate this is very fun and easy for me.

I’ve just played for like 4 hours straight and my shoulders and back really hurt. I’ve adjusted my height but it seems like when I adjust it is either too low to hit or too high to hit.

When it comes to expert I will slow the song right down and gradually speed it up until my eyes and my body are well used to it. Expert plus is not on my radar at the moment but I am really looking forward to getting into that level. I have a few exper songs that I am really good at and it is a workout!! Some Expert tracks are stupid hard though and I dont enjoy them. I hate when they switch the colours to the other side. My eyes get so confused. But I am getting better every time.
Yeah I'm not OBSESSED with conquering Expert+ but it would be nice to progress :)

I have another tip that I have yet to see anybody on TH-cam touch on or point out. Well for me I have noticed a drastic change in my scores and completing songs by removing the HUD. I feel that removing the HUD allows you to focus more on getting good cuts and anticipating future cuts while also not getting as stressed out over messing up combos and seeing your battery drop. It is also more visually pleasing in my opinion.

Dunno if it existed in March 2019 but "Training Mode" and gain Speed step by step is propably the best way to learn a song in first case. So you more learn the song than the patterns maybe, but muscle memory is a hell of a nice thing. Helped me until now very good to gid better.

Quest is such a nice thing, was lucky that in my Region no one seemed interested so the stores still had some to sell. But ... I have issues with some tracking when I move to fast with my hand sometimes. Maybe its me, or its the quests inside-out tracking that I miss some blocks that I definitivly should have hit with my movement. And I dont play Expert+ until now.

so i just got this game yesterday and idk how to play custom levels either im an idiot and missed it or you can only do custom levels on beat saber pc version if so im ganna be mad

Curious to know your favorites :) I didn't experience vertigo myself but I DID struggle with some FPS games in VR. It got better in time though, so I'd just play shorter sessions until get more used to it maybe?
@@YourPlayer2 I wish I got it on my PC because then I would have more songs :( I think the extra songs are way overpriced and hate them for it. I bought the imagine dragons pack but wish they had more extra song packs like from Muse for example!

Im in export plus and some times i add a modifier that makes the song fast and i put no fail mode on so that i can play the game with no fears that am going to fail the song and good for training to that's all i want to say
I should utilize no fail mode more so I can start enjoying Expert+ without that worry about failing the level
Beat sabe r has become my fave game for sure i am even considering buying again on quest when it arrives

I'd recommend going for a grounded PCVR if you buy BeatSaber again. PSVR is gimped to official songs and no editor, and the Quest version will be the same. PC version lets you upload any song to your personal collection and can edit any song's "slash chart." I advocate that simply because the official charts are just lazy and uncreative. Obviously you're gonna need decent hardware too, but you'll have excellent tracking.
If Quest is your price range then by all means, go for it, but I can tell you that it's going to be like the "PSP" of VR. No major titles or anything, but the games so far are pretty meaty for what they're worth. But when it comes to BeatSaber, it's just a completely superior experience on topline VR.
@@lisado8458 Won't happen :/ The Quest is basically a console, as opposed to PCVR being a hardware peripheral. Licensing and vulgarity prevent a song upload feature for "dedicated" releases. PC allows you to upload custom songs to YOUR personal library, and you can mod-in custom sabers that other people have made.
Now song EDITING I really can't explain to be lacking from any version of the game, but I'm guessing it has to do with needing to go into a program with keyboard and mouse. This sucks because the official charts are either extremely lazy, or exist to appease elite players. I'm a practitioner of Kali stick fighting, and there's soooo much advanced form I'd love to implement into these songs lol.

Interesting video. I got my college age daughter the PSVR and Beat Saber this past Christmas. I started playing just over 2 weeks ago. I’m disabled so I turn off the obstacles. Started on easy and after a few days went to normal and decided to get through every song. Now I’m starting to do the hard levels. Favorites are Glide, Bad Liar and Minority. I think Ghost is ridiculous. I think the 90 degree levels look fun, but my back doesn’t allow me to twist enough to play them which sucks. I got my teenage son a new computer so we’re going to invest in an Oculus Rift next. It was going to be a Quest but the tos that came out in October said you can’t add new songs and I’ve heard people have had issues when sidebaring them. Plus the S is actually less them the Quest, though I like that the Quest is wireless, I want the custom songs.

I'm glad you're playing and enjoying it though :) I WANT custom songs but I don't necessarily NEED them and untethered Beat Saber sounds really rad so I'll be getting the Quest at some point this year for sure.
I noticed that in Extras some songs on Expert are as difficult as some song in the Original Soundtracks on Expert+
Yeah I did see that some of the Expert tracks in the song packs were WAY harder than the initial offerings.
For me the best way to get better so far, is playing many maps you can't beat on no fail. Even when its no fun at the beginn, i improved a lot this way in a very short time. My favorite map is Heart Beat Overheat atm.
I totally agree with no-fail on. That way it doesn't discourage someone out of the gate if they're struggling with the movements :) I'll have to check it out, Snowy!

Expert can be pretty intimidating! It gets easier though and in less time than you'd think you'll be crushing expert WITH the speed modifier on ;)

I always do a song on normal until I get it down pat then I do the same on hard. ONE i have it absolutely perfect on hard, THEN I go to expert.
I don't have the patience for that method but I like hearing other strategies!
I'm an expert plus player but when I complete the same hard song like cycle hit a few times today the next I can't it's like I never saw those patterns why is that

You cannot, but there are some song packs available for artists like Monster Cat, Panic at the Disco, and Imagine Dragons if that's your thing :)

I got Beat Saber psvr on Dec 23rd and played it for about 7ish hours in a 24 hour period. I didn't notice where on the controllers' length I was holding them, but I noticed often times with how I was playing songs that I would start with the trigger pointed down towards my pinky finger and by the end of the song the controllers had rotated in my hands so the trigger was pointing up where only my thumb could reach it lol. Last time I played, around 2pm CST on Christmas eve I was starting to try expert on some songs but mostly working on learning hard difficulty. I've spent most of my time on the Imagine Dragons song pack (favs being Warriors, Believer and Natural from there) and Pop/Stars. I'm determined to get as many fcs as possible so I've been mean to myself and restarted songs when I missed blocks I knew I missed for stupid reasons. My arms finally stopped hurting and feeling sore about 98 hours after playing so intensely those 7 hours. 😂
I need to learn not to swing so hard. I did the smack my thumbs between the controllers hard enough to sting for a while too but I didn't get the massive bruise.
Yeah they can change position without realizing it! Smacking yourself with the controller never feels good. I dig the Imagine Dragons pack but REALLY liking the new Panic at the Disco! one :)

I still haven't played a SINGLE custom song since I'm on PSVR right now but when I get done re-modeling the 'VR Lair' that's definitely on my to-do list!

I’ve been playing beat saber for 3 days and got to hard mode (mastered most of the songs in hard mode) in my first day, as of today i can do over half of an expert in some songs, very few actually, and in some i can barely stay alive with over 10k score, some i die with less than 2k score, i think i am rushing it, i repeat i transitioned to hard mode easily in my first day and then when i want to transition to expert i can’t i want to take this slowly to get it proprerly

I got to a consistent A-S on most expert songs in my first few days of playing, and now I am at a consistent A-S in all except for the cartmelia ones (Still cant do those haha), but expert+ is such a big step up and I cannot complete a single song. My biggest issue is the blocks are too far apart/high and I cant hit them in time haha
A was pretty achievable for me initially on Hard; Nowadays I mostly stick to expert with the speed modifier on but occasionally I'll do some Expert+ tracks but you're right, the extra movement is a lot harder than you'd think!

1:37 the same thing happened to me.
I use an oculus quest which has some pretty big tracking rings. I swung it hard into my finger and when I took of my headset I saw a cut. A cut!? From a vr controller?!
Yowch- yeah it's definitely worth starting out slow or making sure you're not playing when you're tired! Of the injuries I thought I MIGHT sustain playing Beat Saber that was NOT one of them!

Beat saber is definitely fun but if you want to go even further u can get a PCVR or even just a Quest 2 for better tracking (I’ve played both PSVR Beat Saber and Quest 2 Beat Saber and I noticed that PSVR has slower tracking) and also for custom songs so you aren’t limited to the songs vanilla Beat Saber has. Custom levels also come with better mapping but I can see this as a downside for beginners since a lot of songs are Expert/Expert+ only.
Oh I'm playing on the Quest 2 nowadays and it's MUCH better!

I didn't play much on the PSVR, but since buying an Oculus Quest last week & playing along to song I'd usually listen to, I'm having a lot more fun. Motherlover (Lonely Island w/Justin Timberlake) is incredibly fun (it's marked Expert+, but I'm not sure I trust that)

Hi, I will soon get a Oculus Quest and my plan was to use apps like Beat Saber to recover, I have once broken my elbow and a nerve there was affected, after ignoring training for several years I have lost a bit of the coordination so my right hand is much faster than the left and I have a feeling that my eye to left hand coordination is out of sync, but I never see any playing this game in the simpler levels that I think would be a good start for me, so I want to know if you can show that and levels that can be good for just to move a bit and for older (or injured) people that may not be so fast, I am a bit afraid that if I fail to often that I just quit. I am often a sour loser and a salty player.
Btw, this was a good video that made me interested in playing this game, my goal is to one day be able to come near the expert level.
Well, you can slow things down in the settings and the first volume of music is WAY slower/easier than later volumes they released. Also you can enable a ‘no-fail’ mode which should help keep you from getting discouraged :)
My favourite song of Beat saber is...Beat saber :D. However as I am playing it on PSVR I can't play any custom songs.
LoL one of my favorites too, Retryo :p I'm in the same boat although I DID recently start playing with the Quest so maybe I'll try some custom songs someday.
@@YourPlayer2 I heard some comments saying Beat Saber with Quest's really bad and almost unplayable because of the tracking and the refresh rate (I think, thats what I remember) but what do *you* think? Is it good to play with a Quest Im planning buy one. (May buy the next quest too I dunno) It will be my first VR headset ever (I've never even seen a VR headser irl) do *you* recommend it (especially for BS)

I just started to have a go of expert using 100 dollar bills and just slowed the song down getting E rank scores but its going up. Expert is bloody hard if you are not used to it. My eyes are on overload trying to keep up and my brains is like WAIT WAIT WAIT FOR CHRIST SAKE HANG ON IM NOT READY. LOL its such a boss game though love it. Its a super work out.
LoL that was the first one I tried on expert and I was like "NOPE NOPE NOPE" XD Although I have to say playing the lower difficulties but with the increased speed modifier helped me get ready for Expert as well and now I'm SLOWLY getting acclimated to Expert+! If you have it on pc, dowoad the custom camgaign. It is so much better and the challenges actually teach you tricks like the fading arrow challenge, forcing you to look ahead.
I don't yet but I'm holding off for now until I figure out if I'm going to get the Quest or not :p Fading arrows are possible on the PSVR one though as a modifier as I recall.

Many thanks, Ramisher! That piece you're referring to didn't click for me until after about 5 play sessions but once it did I found it WAY more enjoyable!
It's really a bummer that only PC gets access to custom songs, I started with custom songs which kind of forced me to play expert plus since that is usually the only mode that they make them for.
The different mods don't just mean harder and more notes as well. Keep in mind that the higher the difficulty setting the closer the song tempo and note cuts match. So songs might get more complicated but the notes will match with how the song feels.
Last thing is to focus on what the notes are emulating, is it the bass of the song, maybe more of the vocals. This can change throughout the song but if you can figure it out then it's much easier to figure the song out.
Yeah, that's kind of why I wanna do the Quest since I understand it can also support custom songs! Good advice on focus too, Gonk :)

GrimmyReaper the mods are not made by the beat saber developers and sadly consoles don't support thirdparty software so in order to play custom songs that you see people doing on TH-cam you need a PC or a Oculus quest

i can hit everything my problem is when my red saber is in my left hand and the red cube is on the right and i accidentally slice the red cube with my blue saber

Quick answer- Yes! In a manner of speaking, anyways. You should be able to adjust the floor’s distance from the headset in the interface so you can get ‘closer’ to those blocks I believe. At least I did on the PSVR version when the blocks felt weirdly out of reach.

Another tip that helped ne a Lot was to Offset your height offset at (For me) -0.10 before that i couldnt get expert Levels after it i instantly nailed it sorry For my Bad English

What me personaly helped a lot is faster song + no fail.
But newer player, so here's the story, what I ment:
I have a lot of friends who play beatsaber, but have br and beatsaber only for a week now. The songs in the game weren't that interesting to me (not my style of music), so I downloaded at the second day mods and a bunch of music I really like. Problem is: most of them are expert or at least hard (but in reality more like vanilla expert-songs), so I played them from day two at a level I am clearly not with noFail. But after 3-ish days I was actually able to beat some scores of my friends, so one gave me a challenge: He played one of the vanilla songs on expert and made a new score in it. I had to beat it. First try was obviously a failure, so I activated NoFail as usual, but also with the faster-Modifier and trained the song a little untill i was able to beat it on normal pace without NoFail. And today, after two days, I was able to beat my friends score.
So, in conclusion: Train of a level above the level you want to reach. Want to get to expert? Train expert with fast song or expert+. Same goes for expert+ I asume.
(and yes, I also wanted to brag about playing on expert after one week :P Spending hundreds of hours in Guitar Hero back than and fighting with real swords maybe did give me a benefit too tbh)
Good advice! It took me a few weeks to get there myself but I definitely agree with using the speed modifier as that was a huge help and the default way I play nowadays.

Just a little update: Now rank 3661 global and 222 national (germany) on Score Saber and can most songs with 6 notes a second without too much struggle (=in the 80 % accuracy range). Your video defenitly helped a lot in the start ^^
got the platinum award and can beat almost every expert + except for the cammelia songs. but ill might have to get an oculus
Congrats! I do Expert+ occasionally but mostly stick to Expert with the speed modifier on. Oculus Quest has been a literal game changer for me tho.

For me absolutely! Untethered play is really nice but the biggest draw? Instant-on and I’m in the action whereas PS4 takes more than a few minutes to get going

I really wish they'd add more DLC songs to the PSVR version with some bands that are actually good. One song I think would be tits to play on this is You Could be Mine by Guns-n-Roses. Anything by Twista would be good too.

Not a bad strategy! I moved to hard pretty quickly as well and much like other rhythm games like Guitar Hero, once you ramp up the difficulty anything at the lower levels becomes boring by comparison :p
