  • Want to improve your composition skills? Sitting in a classroom and studying composition techniques might help, but actually getting out and shooting is the best thing you can do to take better compositions. In this video I show you an exercise you can do at home that will help you capture more unique and interesting photographic compositions. Let's go!

If the area allows I will walk around to look at my subject from as many sides as possible. Often there are limits for this but I try to work with what i have. I have not tried your "fifty shots" idea but I grew up in film days and tried to make decisions to try to conserve frames ... I started using my dad's camera when I was ten years old...1960. I only shoot for fun, limited now that I'm 73 and just go out less. So, I seem to work in your theme in the times I do get out with a camera.

It's a classical exercice, but really good to illustrate it through this tutorial video. Thanks for that !

Great video Sean! I love your new content on TH-cam. It would be great to see a video at some point on your editing flow in Lightroom for a session: selecting the best images, applying presets, fine tuning etc.

I subscribed to your channel on the recommendation of Anthony Moraganti, a photographer and educator. When I first started in photography many years ago, we did an exercise with an egg, Not only different angles were encouraged, but it was more about the lightening. My first love is landscape photography, so when I am traveling, I try to make it a point of catching an image from different vantage points. My major problem is which one do I DELETE? So, when putting together a collection in Lightroom, which images do I keep of that same location? I guess this might be a good problem to have?

Sorry to say that... BUT so many TH-camrs, who are creating photography or videography content started doing those B rolls on how they are doing their coffee. I really want to belive that not everyone is copying Peter McKinnon''s style... but it does look like this. Gets you wondering: " Ammm did I clicked on Peter's videos again?"
I know feedback from viewers is valuable and I just wanted to mention this, first time in your channel btw :) (I liked the video pretty much!)
