That’s a nice and humble way of looking at it, but I wouldn’t say that’s true. Some of the greatest athletes of all time have no problem letting the world know they’re great. I’m not sure you can become a truly great player without feeling that way. Draymond just isn’t afraid to speak on it.

The "only" players back then that were known for being DIRTY were the Bad Boy Pistons and mainly:

Rick Mahorn got to the Pistons in 85-86, the next year is when they started the war with Boston and became dirty bruising players

He guarded point guards out of the perimeter like John Stockton and Gary Peyton and then when he got older and put on more muscle, he was in the paint guarding Hall of fame Centers like Hakeem, Shaq and David Robinson. He might also be the best rebounder ever as well but that's a different topic.

He models his defense from the 2012-2013 Lebron. He is great. Just not all-time. Lebron was also better because he is and still is more athletic than Draymond.
