- Randy's Collection: Episode 110 - Major Magic's All-Star Pizza Revue was a pizza chain similar to Chucky Cheese but located primarily in the mid-west. I purchased this animatronic show from a Major Magic's that closed in Detroit over 20 years ago.

Randy, what a treat to see your Major Magic stuff. I believe the guitar player was a Fox, not a wolf, but not a big deal. A good friend of mine worked at Major Magic Robotics, in Fraser Michigan. He built many of the characters you showed. As a bit of trivia for Rock & Roll fans, the man who ran the robotics company was Dennis, "Machine Gun" Thompson. Former drummer for the MC5 out of Detroit. Many evenings after the work day was done, Dennis would sit in. It was surreal to crack a beer and watch the future Rock&Roll Hall of Fame member play with the band. I hope you post to this listing if you ever get the shows going for people to see.
As a Michigander it’s a real joy to see one of these shows in good hands. A guy previously tried to revive the brand recently but the animatronics never got proper care and he’s essentially hoarded them along with the showtapes after the fact.

He actually sold them to a father and son who love animatronics. They aren’t interested in selling, but last I checked, they still have them. But you do have a point about the showtapes and how he didn’t really take care of them well enough. He fixed them up but didn’t have the resources to keep them in good condition.

Was not aware there was another public Barbara other than my own! She looks to be an amazing shape as well! I'd love to see you cover her a bit more in the future, as I would love to know how different they were made. Great job in preserving these.

Nick O’Lodeon is the correct spelling of the Irish piano. There was also a character named Bo Jingles, who was always in the outhouse, so you'd only see his arm come out from the wall (which had a door for the outhouse), holding a tambourine
Please keep Major Magic and his band going! I worked in the Sylvania Ohio location for 8 years, best job I’ve ever had. It was my home!

I was filled with so much sorrow when Major Magics closed down. A lot of my childhood had been robbed from me, and hearing that an old place of comfort I used to frequent was also gone really hit me hard. I had always wanted to know what happened to the animatronics, and felt so awful thinking about what may have happened.
Seeing them again has brought me a joy I have not felt in a long long time. Thank you for being so kind to them! You have no idea how happy that makes me, and I know that it was no easy task!

Not sure how long, but they didn't close at the same time.
It really sucks when places we live close, but from what I have seen and personally experienced through my 45 years of operations on the boardwalk is that places close most always because of lack of patronage.
There can be other reasons like lease on the property not being renewed, or owners getting old or sick, but typically it is economics.
Wildwood is a shore resort and lots of long history which people talk about constantly...
I hear people fondly speak about things and places which are long gone now, and how great they were, and they should bring that back...
But if all those people had supported those places with their continued patronage, those places would likely still be there.artifacts from these places in display in my retro arcade, and people enjoy coming to look at them...
But these very same people do not spend any money and play our games...
Maybe they are not gane players, but we also have donation boxes, and needless to say almost none of these people put any money in those boxes.
There is no admission to come, and they take everything for granted that we will be around gir them to come see all the things the next time they visit.
When comes the time we are gone, they will miss everything being there, but it is they themselves who didn't help us to continue being there because they didn't care enough to support the operations with their money.
Bills keep going up, and income goes down; that's the simple fact.
I am getting older, and soon I will not be able to do all the work I do; I don't get paid, do there is no money to hire someone else to do the work.
So the facts are that time is running out, and all I have preserved will be gone in a matter of time.
I tried for decades to get things set up as a Museum with a non profit foundation so it could live on, but people simple don't care enough to provide the funds required.
I still have hope, but I see the facts, and know how the story likely ends.
Sorry to tell such a sad story, but it is necessary to understand things as they are sometimes.
Hold onto memories because they are the best.

Congrats, Rand! You've got some very special pieces there. I'd love to come out and see them perform. I'd absolutely kill for an animatronic of my own, I'd have to get a rock-afire beach bear or a fatz geronimo given the choice.

This is wonderful to see! You have such an impressive collection. I own an animatronic band from Circus Playhouse who are similarly huge and built like tanks.
Holy moly! What an impressive collection! Not just of the band but stuff in general. I had no idea Disney even sold guns back then. It definitely makes sense to Frontierland, but would Disney own up to that part of their history? No waaaaay XD
But on topic of the band, have you ever thought about digitally preserving those show tapes? I know there's a pretty big community dedicated to preserving show tapes from Chuck E Cheese's history, and while you may not be able to get the band going at the moment to show the performances, I'm sure people would love to hear the audio track from the show. :)

@@BlueHuskyYT a estate sale is when someone is deceased and all of their stuff gets sold meaning he has no intend to preserve and wants to gatekeep the tapes until he passes away. if thats a good/respectable decision is subjective for everyone tho
Randy is an amusement hoarder, not a preserver. It's his provocative what he wants to do or not do with his belongings.
I’ve never done the Country Bear Jamboree in WDW, but I did do the one on Morey’s Pier in the 80s. I loved Chuck E. Cheese but these animatronics are awesome!
I loved the country bears, so sad when even the abridged show was taken away in favor for a modern update.

Fun fact this show came from the Madison Heights location and was removed in 2003/2005 and was the 2nd to last public major magic show

@@Mrshoujo it was a Michigan thing I believe... Not sure but I had heard of only 2 locations... Could have been 2 that the one guy owned...
These places were not wide spread at that time... Chuck e Cheese was the one who tried nationwide expansion...
I would believe the costs to set that up was prohibitive to creating that many locations, keeping the ones there were as very special.

I went to the this place in Clinton township back in the day. It was Disney quality
i live east of st.louis never seen a major magics that far south ...and yes those were fabricated custom pieces ..and yes a compressor is messy ..is their a puter involved in any of that ..i wonder if some of those tapes are data tapes ..idk ..i dig it tho

Goodness, the emotion I can hear in your voice after bringing up The Country Bears and CEC… You’ve got me crying, too. I grew up loving both of those so much and it is painful to know that I can’t go back again, that my last show was my last. But I did get very very lucky with the Bears. My last show was also the best anyone could have ever asked for as a goodbye. I had the entire theater to myself, the CM let me be an honorary Sun Bonnet when they came on (I got to go up and sing WITH them as a fourth and we got it all on camera)… I was allowed to approach and get a good detailed look at every Bear throughout the show. The CM didn’t even tell me I couldn’t sit with Henry (luckily though when I said that, I only meant sitting on the side of the theater he spent the most time on)… as the finale came up, the CM also snapped the very last photo there will ever be of my biological family together, with all the Bears out in full force. It was amazing. And then as if that wasn’t enough, a wish I made when I was a little girl came true after the show- I got to hug and take photos with all of the walk around Bears right outside. My mom says Walt was looking out for me that night- he knew my favorite show wasn’t gonna stick around and he knew that my family would split up in a week. My eyes are watering up… The Christmas hoedown got 10 year old me hooked on the CBJ in 2002 and they were a must-see every time we went back to WDW for me. I always sang along and clapped. I enjoyed the comedy with someone that meant a lot to me for a long time by my side and when that person left, I found comfort in singing along with Trixie and Teddi, nights when I couldn’t stand the pain. I loved that show so much. But I’m really glad I got to have such a personal goodbye with it that no one else I know had. And as for CEC, I remember being in love with Munch’s Make Believe Band but also terrified. 😂 In 1997, when I was five years old, some kid at a birthday party there told me the animatronics could come off the stage and eat kids and I bought it, so when my favorite character from the show, Jasper, came out to hug us, I screamed and ran like hell. 😂 My parents never took me to CEC again until maybe 2012-ish? It wasn’t the same- the party room and stage at our location were just gone and I was sad because I felt a lot of my childhood experience was lost. And now that they’re completely obliterating the animatronics, well, that’s even worse… We are losing so many great, emotional experiences. 💔

Please find someone to archive and digitally restore and digitize those show tapes that very well may be the last of its kind this was a chain F.E.C similar to chuck e cheese and showbiz back in the day they rebooted it back in 2018 or so but it shutdown due to COVID this very well may be the show from the reboot as it was in Michigan and there is very little out there on these guys as far as media goes it would be a absolute godsend to archive those showtapes
I know there are some other animatronics from this show out there but afaik none are complete or in operating condition i think theres only like one other full show and it was in a fire so they're burnt and were eventually sold to a haunted house or something
I think he should just leave it in his stash as it is. It adds to the mysticism of his place.

I don't know if you knew this or not, but there are companies out there that still make animatronic controllers for an affordable price, and these controllers allow you to program and create brand new showtapes for the characters so you aren't restricted to the reel to reel system. I've used one of these controllers to program my animatronic to various 80s songs, it's nice to have such a wide variety of shows to play on it. A buddy of mine also let me program a song on his Major Magics animatronic, which can be seen here th-cam.com/video/ByPJ88r-F7E/w-d-xo.html . If you ever get to the point if the original controller somehow doesn't work anymore, let me know and I can help you out with finding a new one!

Perhaps it was a lease... I know.
But it makes sense that it was company owned , leased to the pier, and they took it back to send it someplace else at that time.
Likely destroyed now.

Just out of curiosity, do you still have some of the original outfits that the characters had? Burley Hives (The big bear) was dressed in a Union hat and makeshift union soldier’s outfit with red sashes, Sing’n Sam (the other bear) had flag color overalls and a bow tie and dickie, and Flash the Lion had a Red Wings shirt (or any other Detroit sports team shirt like Tigers). Also, I noticed that some of the characters like Rock are missing their eyelids.
@@SplashSurfer216 sounds like some of that make have been add ons that individual locations may give done.
As far as eye lids, they are controlled and are likely in up stages without power and pressure turned on
@@MainStreetRANDYLAND I dunno about that. The Sgt Pepperoni (the walrus with the saxophone) you own has his eyelids while ones I’ve seen that were privately owned or for sale, are missing theirs. Even the Rock from Sylvania was missing his eyelids. Even if aired down they should still be visible.
Imagine breaking into this place looking for money and instead finding a truck load of still animatronics and nothing else

Why not male the animatronics like a jukebox. You put some money in, choose the show show you want to play and enjoy. It brings customers in and makes the robots can pay for themselves.
