  • Welcome to Ian's N Gauge channel!
    In my previous video I showed some recent acquisitions I'd made, including a Dapol class 27 that had a derailment issue.
    In this Shelfington Swift video I’m going to show you how the issue has been fixed.
    Thanks very much for watching.

    Hi well, done for getting to the bottom of the problem. That's what TH-cam is great for, the community can always supply some extra help when required.
    Looking forward to your next video.
    All the best

      Thanks Allan! Yes, it's a fantastic community, isn't it? I don't think I'd ever have got to the bottom of the problem without Jonathan's help! Cheers, Ian.

    I’m glad you got your derailment problem sorted. N gauge is so tricky sometimes. Well done for your perseverance and explanation on the channel 👍

      Thanks Anthony! Yes, N gauge can be frustrating at times, but it's very rewarding when you fix things like this! I'd never have spotted the problem without Jonathan's help though, so a huge amount of credit must go to him! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian, I had the spoiler alert for this one but still enjoyed watching it - you have a great way of presenting things! Thank you very much for not so much a mention as a full-on advert! Very kind :) Here's to hoping someone else has a wobbly bogie solution for you!

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Jonathan! Thank you! That's kind of you to say! Haha! Yes, the wobbly bogie is proving more difficult to solve as it doesn't happen all of the time! I suspect that it actually might be the track causing it this time! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian love the new train and rolling stock. Glad you got the train sorted, this is the fun side of this hobby it doesn't always work like it should. Colin

      Hi Colin! I'm pretty pleased with my new acquisitions, and incredibly pleased to have the 27 running properly, well, apart from the bouncing bogie! Cheers, Ian.

      Thanks very much Clive! Yes, apparently those little hooks have been causing problems for quite a number of people! Glad it was an easy fix! All the best, Ian.

    Well done Ian, not sure about the jumping wheel, surely not a bad wheel set or the axle not reaching the bogie frame. I'm always scared of having to use a bit of force to remove the bogies in case they go out of shape. All the best.

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Chris! There are such fine margins with N gauge, aren't there? Yeah, the jumping wheel could be more to do with the axle alignments than the track, but it seems to be an intermittent fault, so is proving difficult to track down! You don't really notice it unless you're looking for it, so it's probably best to leave alone until it starts causing derailment issues! Cheers, Ian.

      @@iansngauge Very frustrating, nothing worse than a stalling train even though the track is clean, as you say "fine margins".

    Looks like the track pins might be hitting the bottom of the bogies and causing them to "jump"

      @iansngauge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Andrew! It's a good spot with the track pins, but the video footage with the loose pins was taken before I'd adjusted the track, so all of the track pins had been secured before the bogie wobbling occurred! Cheers, Ian.

      Thanks Nigel! Like I said in the video, it wasn't immediately obvious, as the bogies swung freely! I don't think I'd have even considered looking at the hook without Jonathan's help! Good luck with you locos! Cheers, Ian.

    Hi Ian. progress - of a sort. Silly question: how do you know whether the fan end is the front or rear of the loco?

    • @chompette_
      @chompette_ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Generally dual cab diesels have a designated "No. 1 end" and "No. 2 end". The cooler group with the roof fan is usually at the No. 1 end, which in some minds would make sense to be called the front.
      The western region used A end and B end designation, and on asymmetrical layout locomotives like the class 22 and 35, the fan was closer to the B end.

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Paul, to be fair, I have no idea, so thanks for the info @chompette_!
      That's why I referred to the ends as fan and exhaust end! However, I'd argue that the front end is the end it's being driven from! :)
      Cheers, Ian.
