I’ve got a few unofficial releases and I’m happy with them. Would I rather have official? Sure. But not always available. I wish my main record store carried these but they don’t. Great video brother

Great video and topic. I have a bunch of unofficial pressings that I bought due to the price of an OG and no chance of seeing it on vinyl anytime soon. Most of them sound decent to great. I am happy to have them in my collection in hopes that someday there will be a reissue. Vince Neil Exposed, Motley Crue's self titled, Badlands Dusk, Alice In Chains Tripod, Megadeth Risk, Megadeth Cryptic Writings. All of those sound pretty good and none of them appear to be getting an official reissue anytime soon (maybe AIC). Once they do I will buy the official. I have done this with AIC Facelift, Van Halen Balance, and Van Halen For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Rock on

Have a couple of Iron Maiden live from soundboard recordings two cd sets that sound as good as anything the band has put out. Know they're unofficial but artwork/music recording is A+. Thanks Chris.
If you see it, don’t skip the RSD Pic Disc of Wild Mood Swings. It’s official, the package is good, and it sounds much better than most PDs. There definitely needs to be an in print version of Killers. I got an OG Euro one off of Discogs a few years ago that’s really good. I just heard that Hurricane has a brand new album out. I’m still grateful you introduced me to em. Exodus needs a reissue campaign for sure.

Very interesting video Chris. I have next to no such records, Stones Live at the BBC on some Warthog label, but would probably grab at least something as nice looking as that the Cure one. A yes, the German Kiss albums. When I had my Kiss vinyl records as a kid (later lent to the street bully who destroyed them) I was very frustrated by one or two of them having the wrong S…’s. Scandinavia would at times get german pressings. Even then, we knew why the German one looked wrong!
I have an unofficial release of Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals. It does sound very good. I assume it was pressed from a digital, maybe CD source, but in the 90's I'm guessing there was no analog file. My friend was lucky to pick up the recent official release so I am going to do a comparison listen soon. The record store I bought it from, the owner insisted that these unofficial releases from Europe are pressed on the same equipment that presses the official releases. I'm not sure where he got this information.
Unofficial releases are popular because Official releases are becoming scarce, due to artists turning their attention to Downloads and Box Sets. Some are essential to have, such as Iron Maiden's "The Soundhouse Tapes". They sound decent enough to me.
Well you are correct in saying the police aren't coming for you but stores get checked for that stuff and could be shut down for selling that "bootleg" stuff, the stuff they sell around here are radio broadcast. Almost all of those Unofficial albums come from countries that don't have strict copyright laws.
Good subject Chris, I'm not a fan of 4Men With Beards label. The sound quality is wildly all over the place and I am usually very forgiving. Another for me is the Spanish label Bang records which releases a lot of Australian stuff. Nice packages, but often sound like they're just mastered off a cd. Cheers...Ben

I kinda have mixed feelings when it comes to these "unofficial" pressings. I kinda understand why someone would wanna pay 30 or 40 bucks for an unofficial pressing of a Danzig album vs 100's for an original pressing but it's gotten out of hand and they are pressing unofficial copies of titles that aren't that tough to find. A lot Kiss titles are available via unofficial pressings but you can find OGs all day long. My thing is, soend your money all day long on whatever you want as long as you know what you are getting. My worry is people buying unofficial copies thinking they are getting a rare record, you're not, you are basically buying something with no value. I have purchased a few unofficial things here and there but i understand what i am getting. I work in a record store and we choose to not carry the unofficial titles in our store because we badically feel it is bad for the collecting market and it is illegal. Again, i am not against it as long as people know and understand what they are buying. Good video. Good information.

I also wish the labels would pay attention to the titles people actually want and get them on the market. That would help a lot.

I think people are buying unofficial when they think they are purchasing the opposite. Definitely some scammers out there!
