  • Hoovermatic 3310E Twin Tub washing machine from March 1972. This is a budget version of the more commonly seen Hoovermatic Deluxe Model 3314L, which was also known as the Washdog. This version does not have quite as many features but it has the same wash action and does a great job

    Nice to see someone not overloading the wash tub, so it works as it was designed to!!

      Thanks. All the items in the wash were quite small (t shirts etc.) which move well, it does not cope quite so well with sheets and the like as they are harder to move through the water.

    Great to see a video of the Hoovermatic. Thank you for posting and bringing back fond memories -we had one of those, while my aunt had the de luxe, so I got to ‘play’ with both 😊

      I have a De Luxe too although it is leaking right now on the pump

    Gorgeous Al! Reminds me of the non deluxe Aussie models that didn’t even have a heater and had a plastic wash tub instead of metal!

    Hi Alistair, the 7 different currents were only there before laundry was added. That stopped most of them as the contents were just then tangled up as most Hoovermatic users will remember. Kind regards, Clive from Sheffield

      I am only passing on what I was told by a former Hoover executive about 10 years ago. Of course tangling was an issue although adding the clothes whilst the impellor is stationery and not overloading were helpful

    I remember them though the hooovermatic deluxe was the one my aunt had with the auto rinse feature and at college we had a hoovermatic deluxe model T5054 the one we used had orange trim and orange rinse nozzle and I think it was the first one from hoover to incorporate a safety locking spinner lid feature that you had to raise the leaver on the front to stop the spinner and raise it again to open the spinner lid 😊

      You're quite right. We had one just like that for over 20 years. Noisy spinner and the wash always got tangled up but the clothes were very clean when they were untangled and automatically rinsed. I remember we used Persil when it was made from soap. 2 rinses and the water cam out clear. Then they changed it to detergent and there was still froth after 6 or more rinses.

      It is in great condition, it was such a relief when I tested it for the first time that there were no leaks. But aside from that it seems to have been really cared for

    We had the Hotpoint supermatic deluxe...i somehow preferred the centre agitator to the pulsator

    • @Vacbear58
      @Vacbear58  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest it is difficult to choose one over the other, or Servis too come to that. Each machine had its pros and cons and its hard to choose a "winner" of one over the others, I think it came down to personal preference and of course what was perceived as the best deal at the time.

      @@Vacbear58 i think the fact that 4 minutes, as opposed to 12 ( plus the tangling issue of course, put me off the Hoover!
      Saying that, I’d love to get one now! Lol

    • @andrewwilliams2353
      @andrewwilliams2353 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We had a Hoover for years, then changed to a Hotpoint. The Hoover was quicker (and therefore was cheaper to run ) but the tangling was irksome and the fluff sticking to the whole wash. The Hotpoint took longer but filtered the fluff out and didn't tangle things. Also you could do a boil wash with the tub only half filled, which was convenient .

    I had one of these back in the 90s. Second hand. I'm trying to get hold of a twin tub again but the modern ones look awful.

    • @Vacbear58
      @Vacbear58  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The old ones are still about although you need to be patient. If it's for regular use I would look for a Hotpoint 9404 or ideally 9414 as I think these were the last to be produced, actually there is quite a nice example on ebay at the moment in Croydon

    Super cool! I've always wanted one of these Box shaped Twin tub washers. The only issue is that I've never seen any here in the States... (I am only 25), but did we in the USA get any or was they strictly the UK, & EU? How could i even get one here.

    • @Vacbear58
      @Vacbear58  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hoover manufactured a very similar model in the USA and they should come up from time to time on Ebay, Craigslist and FB Marketplace. They were not sold in vast numbers as automatics were far more popular but they were on sale for many years. Maytag also produced a twin tub of their own design and Speed Queen had the Simplicity which was based on the UK Servis Supertwin

      You can buy new ones, but they're made of plastic, and, being small, are meant to be used by apartment dwellers.

    Budget model was still better than our best machines.
    But I still don't get it, why switch doesn't have "motor+heat" position ;)

    • @Vacbear58
      @Vacbear58  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its an interesting question that as Servis, Rolls etc. always had the facility to heat whilst washing and spinning but Hoover always adopted this "one or the other" approach right from the point they introduced a heater to the single tub and it was the same with the Hoovermatic 3174 which did not have a thermostat. I can only suppose they felt that the wash time was so quick that it was not worth the facility of heating the water at the same time, but that is only assumption, I have never heard or read an explanation for it
