    I find that playing wargames is an excellent way to motivate myself to learn history. Thanks for the review of this one!

    As a Kiwi who lives in Taranaki, I am super keen to take a look at this game. Maori did use guns in the Musket wars and Land wars in New Zealand, and in some instances in a much more effective manner than colonial British.
    It’s a challenging subject (and often horrific for those involved)
    Really pleased there is a game on the subject.

    Great overview thanks. We weren't too excited about some of the chit pull results during battles, some felt a little ridiculous. That said looking forward to a second play

      Some of them are very.. swingy. But it'd be pretty easy to tinker with the chit pool and remove the more egregious ones.

    Good news - finally got a copy :) all the way from Legion games. Looking forward to playing

    Thanks for the review. I do like the sound of the BD (Battle Dispatches) chits to spice up the combats. Might have to grab this one...…
    (BTW: that was a savvy move to mispronounce Auckland. After that, no NZers are going to expect much from you in terms of Maori pronunciation, hehe.... (just a little tongue and cheek humor at ya.....) ;-)

    You guys should try Conquest of Paradise!
    Pretty similiar to Space Empires 4x.
    But can be played in 90min with 4 (fast) players. Its also overloaded with juicy theme!

      Really like that one! We played it with three a few years ago, it's a vibrant looking game on the table which is always a plus

    Maori actually commonly had muskets and shotguns and on several occasions completely destroyed British army's with far superior weapons, numbers and equipment. The maori invented trench warfare and artillery bunkers and used it against the British.

      Thank you Tk. I would have liked to a play a game in this period that actually explored these new weapon aspects of Maori battle tactics developed during their earlier inter-tribal wars. The placement of and sophisticated earthworks employed by Maori in their fighting Pa were revolutionary and mind blowing to the colonists and have deserved exploration and recognition for too long. I also always appreciated the use of deception to hold up and run the British around and would want this reflected if I were to imagine enjoying this game!.

      First sentence agree, but as for the second one, don't be in too much of a hurry to quote James Embellish, oh, opps, I mean James Belich. Even a casual read of classic military history illustrates how wrong that is. Fortifications have been around since before Roman times. What do you actually think a castle is ?????

    • @Team_Killer_NZ
      @Team_Killer_NZ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@confusedson in sure the riamsn designed the castles with muskets in mind bro 😂 your example is incorrect and irrelevant. Delete your comment scrub.

    • @confusedson
      @confusedson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Team_Killer_NZ , Who's referring to muskets? The point was that fortifications have been around a lot, lot longer than Maoris, period. You really didn't get that, huh. Okay, my bad for over-estimating your ability to comprehend a simple point. Noted. Not quite sure why you think I'm a scrub, you're actually the one who got found out having smoke blown up his backside whilst grinning like a fool and enjoying it. I actually tried to caution you about this, so that you might better recognize this going forward. But apparently, you like what you like too much...…..

    The Maori did have guns, they particularly favored shotguns.

    • @Team_Killer_NZ

      Shot guns were popular but the majority was muskets among maori

    Kia ora, I'm a primary school teacher in Aotearoa New Zealand. Ngā mihi, thanks for the review. I was wondering, do you think that 10 year olds would be able to play this, and can the game/scenarios be broken into half hour chunks to be played over multiple lunch times?

    • @ThePlayersAid
      @ThePlayersAid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Breaking it up probably could be done, especially if you could leave it set up. For 10 year Olds, they might be able to jive with it, but make sure you have the rules down yourself as they can be a little vague at times (there's some good info on the BGG page)

    Hi, what kind of acrylic glass do you use for Wargames? Thx

    • @ThePlayersAid
      @ThePlayersAid  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the very cheap poster frames from Walmart, and get two big ones. They work well enough but aren't necessarily the most durable.
