I have never been to Armenia, but I was shocked about duduk and how many emotions a person can transmit only using a simple instrument. Duduk is the most amazing instrument ever invented.
The original and actual name of this authentic Armenian wood wind instrument (փողային գործիք in Armenian) is Ziran-a-pogh (Ծիրանափող) which loosely translates to musical Apricot Pipe. Ziran (Apricot) is the national fruit of Armenia. Also called the Armenian plum. When you add an "a" to it Ziran-a it means made of apricot tree wood. And pogh means the sound produced by wind instruments. So in short, Ziran-a-pogh translates to musical instrument made of apricot tree wood or Apricot Pipe. They are also made from walnut tree wood but those made from apricot tree wood are the best and have the warmest sound. Duduk is a pseudo-name used for this instrument in the region. For me, when I hear this instrument, it is like a sound that calls us home and no matter where we are born and raised it reminds us of our roots.
I am afraid Armenia doesn't give a good first impression to its visitors. The first most shocking thing that I encountered was at the airport currency exchange. While the prevailing exchange rate at the time of my visit was 410-415 ADMs for a Euro I was offered a meagre 310 ADMs. Another most shocking thing about Armenia are the taxi cheats at the airport and in the city. When the normal charge for a taxi from the airport to the city centre is anything between 1500-1700 ADMs I was asked 25000 (yes twenty five thousand) which I of course refused to pay. What do these taxi cheats think ? Do they think that money comes out of foreign visitors’ backside whenever they go for a shit ? Armenian authorities must do something about these taxi cheats otherwise Armenia would get a bad reputation and no one would wish to visit Armenia

So I visited Armenia during my east Europe trip last October and November. I did 16 countries in 9weeks. Georgia and Armenia was my pleasant surprise. Yerevan I stayed for 4days, and the most shocking for me was how first world they country felt also the drivers drive wild and crazy very similar to big cities like NYC 😅 lolz

I was a Guest in Armenia during the time of the "1st Karabakh War" (1988 -- 1994). In that war, Azerbaijan was defeated, and its genocide project thwarted; unfortunately, Azerbaijan is now at it again, and is hard at work destroying Armenian Heritage Sites throughout Artsakh (a.k.a. Karabakh).

You need to understand that over the past 2 years a lot of Russians have come to Armenia (we all know why), many without knowledge of English or Armenian. Armenians also came who did not know their native language, but are learning now. In the first days, in the places where I was, in the city center, the menu was in Armenian and English, as were the signs. Gradually they began to adapt, for which I say many thanks to the Armenian land and the Armenians. And the generations of Russians who live now will remember this warm welcome all their lives; this, if you like, is our task - to pass on this history to future generations. Secondly, you need to understand that we lived in the same country for almost the entire 20th century. Considering communist ideas and their integration into society, everyone knew Russian, the older generation speaks an excellent literary language, almost everyone. Many Armenians moved to the Russian Federation during the Soviet times, and then in the 90s. Therefore, close ties between the peoples of each country continued to develop all this time. My best school friend, with whom I sat at a desk for 8 years, is an Armenian, who ended up passing the Russian language exam best in the class in the final year of school. The young guys also know and speak Russian perfectly. I am happy that I can communicate with Armenians. Thirdly, after all, the Russian language is a popular, beautiful language, which, as it happens, is spoken predominantly by the majority in the post-Soviet space. In Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and many other countries they speak Russian, which, in my opinion, does not belong to one country, like any other language. I visited Armenia last January, and I actually enjoyed it more than Turkey because it is very underrated. I also feel bad that it had lots of tragic histories in the past. I am also amazed that they have so many >1,000-yr old churches, and that although being in West Asia, they are more European in culture and politics

I remember when I went to go meet my wife for first time and some of things she didn't know. Armenian is highly influenced by Russia. Even after many years. Armenians use a lot of Russian words that shocked me. Then the food. The food in Armenian is very similar to "soul food"... My goal is to bring real BBQ to Armenia in the near future... Another shocker was how so many don't even know our Lord's prayer. Here is United States as Armenians we are proud. Indian words are similar because in the old times mughals of India and the ottomans used to trade a lot and at that time ottoman land (now turkey) were connected, India was largest producer of sugar at that time and ottomans were very fond of sweets so even today shakar is used for all the subcontinent, turkey and Armenia

All of you are wrong Sugar is a indo European word, in Sanskrit it's called sarkara and Persian shakar. It can be debatable if Sanskrit or Persian or believe it or not, even Armenian, cause of the Aryan invasion to the Indus valley. The reason why there are similar words is cause both Hindi(Iranian language branch) and Armenian fall in the indo European languages, Now as far as who took the word from who, one should look at the etymology without being biased.

I haven't seen anything like that in Armenia. They import some goods from Russia but even then they put stickers with Armenian text on them. In fact, in many cases they put the Armenian sticker on top of the Russian text so I cannot read it. 😱

I have been to Armenia 3 times. What shocked me the most was the same each time. The roadside rubbish, the littering, locals not giving a fuq about the environment, the lack of proper waste management. Everywhere you go, whether a common location or lesser known, there's litter marring your journey. Apartments have bins but usually there's a pile of household trash around the bins and overflowing the bin area. If any Hayastantsis are reading this, it's really disgusting and reduces the appeal of tourism. What message are you sending to odar tourists? Come to Armenia , great history and hospitality but please look away from the litter. Please please please pick up after yourselves. Please use bins. If there are no bins, keep your garbage in the car until you find a bin, don't just throw it out the window or leave it behind after a countryside lunch or picnic. It's not that hard to respect your homeland and the homeland of our heritage.

Indian words are similar because in the old times mughals of India and the ottomans used to trade a lot and at that time ottoman land (now turkey) were connected, India was largest producer of sugar at that time and ottomans were very fond of sweets so even today shakar is used for all the subcontinent, turkey and Armenia

Correct. None of the example she gave were Armenian. All were loan words. We do, however, have many words in common.
All of you are wrong Sugar is a indo European word, in Sanskrit it's called sarkara and Persian shakar. It can be debatable if Sanskrit or Persian or believe it or not, even Armenian, cause of the Aryan invasion to the Indus valley. The reason why there are similar words is cause both Hindi(Iranian language branch) and Armenian fall in the indo European languages, Now as far as who took the word from who, one should look at the etymology without being biased.

I haven't seen anything like that in Armenia. They import some goods from Russia but even then they put stickers with Armenian text on them. In fact, in many cases they put the Armenian sticker on top of the Russian text so I cannot read it. 😱
@@Murmilone the medications there have none of what you're saying. I have to trust the people translating it from russian to armenian also not all stores there have armenian stickers with the text on the product.

I have been to Armenia 3 times. What shocked me the most was the same each time. The roadside rubbish, the littering, locals not giving a fuq about the environment, the lack of proper waste management. Everywhere you go, whether a common location or lesser known, there's litter marring your journey. Apartments have bins but usually there's a pile of household trash around the bins and overflowing the bin area. If any Hayastantsis are reading this, it's really disgusting and reduces the appeal of tourism. What message are you sending to odar tourists? Come to Armenia , great history and hospitality but please look away from the litter. Please please please pick up after yourselves. Please use bins. If there are no bins, keep your garbage in the car until you find a bin, don't just throw it out the window or leave it behind after a countryside lunch or picnic. It's not that hard to respect your homeland and the homeland of our heritage.
