    There are way too many 'common' names used for willow, and it gets really confusing when trying to purchase cuttings from a nursery just to get a fast growing, tall hedge or natural privacy fence. Basket Willow, Sandbar Willow, Biomass Willow, Hybrid Willow, Energy Willow... why make it so confusing?

      I agree. Also, many willows can serve dual purposes so some willow can be in almost all of those categories. But I do think those categories might be useful for people starting out. With so many willows choose from, it can be hard to figure out where to begin. - Mark

    I don't feel like pollarding a willow to 2-3 feet would keep it above deer browsing height. I would recommendmore like 8 feet if deer are a serious issue (like they are where I live).

      Good point. Thanks. Pollarding can be any height but should be higher if it's specifically for deer protection. Another thing we didn't mention is rutting. Deer can really abuse a young coppiced tree by rubbing the trunk with their antlers.
