    Good job, Mark. I hate the cap chart that comes with the Blue ESR meter. I downloaded a good chart, then downsized it to fit on the meter, then printed it and taped on my meter. Works great.

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Robert,
      Great idea! I just found a good one on the net and then laminated it. They are much easier to use than the linear graph that is usually on an ESR meter.

    • @robertcalkjr.8325

      Makes it much quicker to have an actual chart! I laminated mine with wide scotch tape.

    Same machine in New Zealand. Similar No Progress beyond scrolling "Hello".
    2 swollen caps in the middle of the power board. All volts within couee apart from data level looking ones? 3 dot something and 2 dot something maybe half.
    When I was only little and working for the Post Office we swapped out dozens of Hunts electrolytic caps gone dry in GEC Rural Carrier. At that time to under voltage a capacitor was not recommended for fear of not providing sufficient forming voltage to maintain the plates insulating properties. We stuck with the nominated but not the same Manufacture.
    I am hopeful that a couple of caps might help. There is no guarantee that those low volts are not a result of down stream but for a couple of capacitors worth a try.
    Whole board eBay second hand more than NZ$200. Whole machine still very high value for the dubbing to digital storage. DVD RW as transport to Hard Drive.

      Hey Graeme,
      Thanks for your comment.
      Yes, dry, swollen or exploded caps will do it every time. If the ESR is high, it can stop voltage in its tracks.
      Hope your repair goes well & is successful.
      I'd like to hear if you are able to get it up and running again.
      Cheers

      @@MiracleMAX I found one correct rated capacitor and one at half the required micro farad value. I have an old multi meter gifted from one of my redundancies and the replacement capacitors read off the scale (20 micro). The swollen 2200 was 16 and a resistor. Power board running without the DVD connected and the low voltages pins looked better with the replacements parts. Back together the start up proceeded to orange DVD lettering. So it went home to the Sister in law's house.
      The boot up there was impeded again unless the HDMI cord to the T.V. was not connected.
      After playing with the remote control to reassure myself that some of it was responding we tried the HDMI output again as before with the T.V not using this out put during boot but this time the LG started. DVD and VHS could play to the television. All good singing and dancing.
      When I get to the city again I will visit Jaycar and get the correct new 2200 and the 1000 micro farad for all of about $3 and put them in. The half value one came out of the dish washer idle for years and the other from a VHS player would have been resting for more than 10 years.
      The home for the LG is dry and not polluted so it is likely that the temporary capacitors have sort of pulled their socks up and nothing else has to be wronk.
      Where I live if changing the batteries does not fix it you buy a new one.
      I delight in fixing. The washing machine; pump motor no good full of rusty water now loaded with silicone grease. F fault, that is the motor. We can sell you a band new machine for about twice the cost of getting a motor in. Brushes Aliexpress $5. What you want to replace the bearings. Your mad. It will only last a few months. A year so far. Clock mechanism for a couple of dollars and some glue so it is still a 41 years ago wedding present. There is value for me in at least having a go and failure is interesting too.
      The LG is valuable especially for converting VHS which might eventually bleed through the tape layers and spoil.
      I do appreciate your TH-cam here. LG would have been closer to the dump without your help.

      I feel the same as you. It upsets me when things go to landfill, when with some ingenuity, skill and patience, an appliance can get up and running again.
      You might enjoy reading some repairs that have been carried out on Jestine Yong's web site - which I write for as well. There are many talented experts on this site that are far smarter than me and just like us, dread the thought of something simple holding back a repair and things being thrown out before their time.

    hello, thanks for sharing great video. I got a problem. I pick the power supply board out. I just want to use the out put ranging from 5V.... However, it does not work . Do you know the reason? DO I have to connect any other jump?

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes they require a load attached or the mainboard attached as the power supply is triggered by the mainboard to change from standby mode.
      Why do you need 5 Volts? Do you need it for a general power supply? Could you use an ATX (computer power supply) instead?
      Cheers

    • @lamgoctam
      @lamgoctam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MiracleMAX Yes. when i used ATX power supply, I have to connect 2 wire before using the power. But for this power supply, I did not know whether should I do the same and what are two wires should connect. I want to use 5v, 12v and 3.3v for my robot arm project (3.3 v for sensor). I just want to use only the power supply because my friend gave this LG DVD as the second hand.

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What sort of current does the arm use?
      If you look at the video above at 0:50, it shows that this player uses 23 watts, which creates only 0.096 Amps, (W=VxA). A=23W/240V. I doubt this would be enough to drive the robot arm. As another option, the ATX power supply may have 600W of power. If we use the same principle, A=600/240 or 2.5Amps, which may be better for your needs. How many watts does the arm use?

    • @lamgoctam
      @lamgoctam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MiracleMAX The arm robot requires around 0.8*5= 4W. I may use the ATX power supply now which is so convenient ^^ Thanks so much.

    Hello. I have a lg dvd-vhs combo vcr. The first 10-15 minutes show bad. Then it gets better. I tried many different cassettes same problem. I wonder what the problem might be. Sorry google translation

    • @MiracleMAX

      Hey Ali,
      Is it just the VHS tapes that show bad or is it the DVD as well?
      If it is just the VHS tape, then it could be a dirty head that needs cleaning or head alignment.
      If it is both, then I would disassemble it and use 'Freeze Spray' on various components to see if it changes.
      I hope that helps

      @@MiracleMAX Thank you for the answer. But my problem is different. I cleaned the head. It just shows bad on the tape. VHS has not been used for a long time, zero vhs. So the problem may be the dried capacitor. Or is there any other suggestion that you can suggest? I cleared the switch mode. The problem continues.

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ismettum9711 Hey Ali,
      I'm not quite sure I understand the actual problem. Is it that you have a bad picture using the VHS player & it is OK when using the DVD?
      If that is the case, I doubt it would be any problems with the capacitors or anything on the Power Board.
      Have the belts been replaced? Are all the gears moving freely? Can you see the tape moving at a constant speed or does it speed up and slow down? Have any shafts with gears on them been lubricated? Have the guides been adjusted? If you are unsure how to do that, here is a link that might help you.

      @@MiracleMAX I was blaming a CTL amp fault at first, I found a test point showing good clean CTL pulses except for frequency fluctuations.
      I have just found the cause, the capstan and pinch roller have reduced grip on the tape. I can temporarily restore tracking by reducing the back tension or by playing the tape at the start where there is more assist from the take up. Applying more force to the pinch roller doesn't help much at all.

      I now think that the back tension is too high. The back tension pole is deflecting the tape by a rather shallow angle and the tape is running in an almost straight line passed the FE head.
      I see no provision for adjusting the BT band's anchor point or the BT spring's tension.
