      I have seen many videos about the Definitive Edition by now, and yes they still target enemys. Which I find cool that they are able to take part in defending the own castle.

    There should be no overcrowding bug too in my opinion. When I first tried playing Stronghold on multiplayer I was so disappointed to see that no one ever builds proper castles, becouse the game makes them esentially useless, they just build a tower and stack an army of archers there. I mean - what's the point of Stronghold without strongholds? The balance of the game should be improved. Not allowing soldiers to stack on a single tower would force the player to actually build a more complex defence system. What I would also greatly enjoy would be a skirmish mode with an option to disable normal units to destroy walls, so that the stone wall could only be destroyed by siege engines. I think that's what this game needs to balance it and make walls useful.

      Tbh, I'm not against balance changes - even if I severely doubt that SH1-DE will contain any - but specifically stacking archers on a tower is easily countered by destroying the tower with siege engines that simply outrange archers. In multiplayer at least. For cheesing the AI, it's a different story...

    The glitch that allows you to move troops that normally would never walk up stairs or on walls (catapults, knights, rams, etc) forgot how it's done

    I really hope they add more content to DE. I think the first Stronghold is the best one of them all, especialy aesthetically, but it lacked the content of Crusaders.

    I'm a bit said they will still allow units to stack up on a single tile, and armies keep moving in single file. Give us some proper formations and depth to armies! I know it was like this in the og, but even then it was goofy.

    I have a feeling since this is a demo it may have used some of old code which is why some old glitches remained. Maybe the full version will fix these

      My issue is that the bug fixes would've easily been in the marketing then when it's just animation/graphics improvements and new missions.

      fixing old code bases is incredibly hard and time consuming, and can easily produce newer more serious bugs

      @@fuyoutubeck Yeah but Stronghold was made in one year and fire spread was added two weeks before the game was shipped, I don't imagine it'd be very hard to spot and fix minor issues.

      @@Tox1cAshes when a team works on something for one year, it's second nature to them to add something, they've been living with the game as much as or even more than with their families for one year, whereas people who'll start working now firstly have no such experience, and secondly, are used to completely different coding standards that weren't present 20 years ago, so fixing things is gonna be incredibly hard for them

      @@Tox1cAshes adding something is generally different from fixing something, and what seems minor might in fact be major internally, and vice versa. The perceived effect/severity of a bug is rarely a good indicator of how hard it is to fix it.

    New Stronghold, new campaign. Even if it's just remastered with better graphics and few additions I'm hyped beyond any level. Instant buy!
    I'm not sure but this azure colour of uniforms instead of old blue seems strange. Azure unforms too much seems like SC. Also not sure about new Scribe.
    Interesting did old Map Editor tricks work in DE?
    Friendly bandits groups still consists from group of archers and single monk when enemy bandits still are only macemans?

      I don't think the editor is part of the demo. But yes, editor-related functionality would be a major point of interest and concern.
      The azure color seems weird indeed, making it hard to distinguish player 1 from player 7... in vanilla, there is no color difference between SH1 and SHC, so this is a new phenomenon.
      Will be interesting to see if they fix any known real issues or just do the AI upscaled textures + handful of mediocre new maps (that most likely won't match community made content in terms of quality, not even close).

      @@raskolnikov6443 in that case, even worse... the interiors were detailed before as well, and many of the new textures are quite lacking... the color contrasts are all over the place, in many cases clearly not fitting together, some have completely off lighting, others have heavy color aberrations or simply lack distinctive details that the original textures had. The ground and wall textures lack some features from the vanilla textures as well. And that list can be continued for a bit longer...

    Why owercrowding tower like that? isn't better just simply build small 1x1 wall on the oposite side and send them there by groups? (so one will go on wall and the rest stays on tower)

    Since Catapults are so OP, i think they should cost more, a lot more, so the player can't make 100 of them.
    Also, some of the commentators didn't like my negativity, but it seems to me all that Firefly did is, AI up-scale some graphics.
    The stats-book guy looks creepy now.

      Some things feel like the AI but i actualyl think its more of a Style change for some the buildings like the Barracks, some of the graphic upgrades are still kinda precise, so i don't think its AI, but rather different artists.
      As for Catapults, im pretty sure its a lot harder to spam them in SH1 unlike Crusader, but my experience with SH1 MP is limited compared to C1.

    Hey jefflenious i think it would be a great idea to do a series of "playing like ai lords in stronghold crusader " where you build their castle and use their troops and stuff like that

    Another glitch is trapping workers at their building by placing a piece of wooden wall directly at the place they enter the building at. It works in some versions of Stronghold but not in Crusader. It can also be accomplished by placing a stone wall that surrounds the place of entry. This speeds up production tremendously.

    the double workers glitch always worked in multiplayer, you just need to do the reset fast enough (depends on your ping) so that the game doesn't unman the buildings

    All the glitches need to be patched out in my opinion. As fun as they can be, I am greatly looking forward to this, and it should be done right.

    Take the glitches out of multiplayer & missions of course, but leave them all in for free build. Especially the extra worker, I never knew about that trick before. Very helpful with, for example, iron mines (if that even works).

    DE is probably just visual overhaul and some new maps. Game itself probably works exactly the same as original and they havent even touched the original game code, similar situation to original Cossacks and Cossacks 3

    I saw lord balder do an exploit in his speedruns, he placed a row of walls for example of 20 stones and then placed a single one then undo it. Somehow he got back the old 20 stones but that wall was still there only the single one was removed and he deleted all the remaining walls and ended up with alot more than just 20. Sorry for a really long explanation but does this still work? and what's the science behind it?

    I dont mind the glitches. Online play doesnt remotely looks realistic anyway.
    For solo you could just ignore the exploits.
    The game is probably visually overhauled but not the base code, and thats fine. I am glad they didnt make the gamemechenics scuffed, it is perfect as it is for me on that field

    classic glitch and bugs should stay, its an essense of stronghold and stronghold crusader, maybe patch it up for multiplayer play but keep it for single player

    Could you test "ghost siege tower" trick?
    Also can you press a # key in barracks to set gather point? It was not in Stronghold, only in Crusader.

    I would like to see some glitches removed. in addition, i really want some rules for multiplayer games, so some OP tactics gets restricted as the players like. e.g. work halting for mass built
    water pots so they can recruit a million troop after the no offence timer. I think a rule for restricting troops capacity would be enough, I don' think we have one in the game right? idk i forgot.

      1. If you watch the trailer, you'll see one of the siege gameplays with the macemen side by side - You can clearly see that with the same game speed there are a lot more frames of the macemen moving
      2. In the gameplay Jeff posted he pressed F and accidentally toggled FPS - it was at almost 300.

      1. There are no enemy Lords with skirmish AI functionality at all in SH1.
      2. And this woodcutter at gate abuse never was possible in SH1 to begin with.

      There is no enemy castles with skirmish AIs in Stronghold, so that's completely irrelevant.
      Also, this already was not possible in SH1 vanilla anyway, so DE doesn't have to change anything there.

    Honestly i don't feel these bugs impact the game much like oxen or multiple workers on single farms, would it be nice if they are fixed? Sure, but from my experience most people either don't know these glitches, or are fair enough not to use them. Overcrowding could also be difficult to change due to how the games handle pathing, it was really only fixed in Warlords since they completely changed how collisions worked.
    Besides visual glitches like game Flashing windows due to steam being open or such are far more important to fix than this in my opinion.

      Yeah luckily those are all fixed! There was a time when the ox tether glitch was abused on every single online match, I personally don't wanna see that happen again
      But I'm completely fine with glitches being left in the game as long as it doesn't hurt anyone

    This is kind of dissapointing. They really should have ironed out all the bugs and done a hell of a lot more balance changes. As much as I adore the classic Stronghold games, this seems like a phoned in cash grab.

      @@Jefflenious it never was there in SH1 to begin with, since you can't build any buildings anywhere near the enemy.
      Also, it wouldn't matter in SH1 anyway, since there's no skirmish AIs there and thus neither mechanics to delete buildings, nor recruiting of troops or any significance of AI castle economy.

      Well, they created the game from the ground up on new engine. They SHOULD give some kind of modding tools etc. Besides few new missions they should prepare some dlc with new features. Why bother to create new game then?
      I love original game as it is, but many things are missing from Crusader version, for example clicking on sources should automatically open market. It did struck me.
      I can say that I like it's remaster and it looks like the old one, however at the other end I've played that game so let's add something fresh after 20 years and many bad strongholds on the way...

      Stronghold 1 didn't have skirmish mode, I don't know if that's going to be added later!

      Even if they are gonna add a new campaign, skirmishes are something I would really enjoy

      Last time they did, it became a full standalone game, SHC.
      And the SH1 DE still uses all unit and structure limits from vanilla SH1, plus SH1 economic balancing, so skirmish AIs wouldn't really work there anyway, besides being a biiiig effort to implement.
      Plus, one can play SHC with SH1 textures already.
