    🎤 Lyrics:
    [Verse 1]
    You got a fast car
And I want a ticket to anywhere
    Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
    Any place is better
Startin' from zero, got nothin' to lose
    Maybe we'll make something
Me, myself, I got nothin' to prove
    [Verse 2]
    You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I've been workin' at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
Won't have to drive too far
Just across thе border and into the city
And you and I can both get jobs
Finally see what it mеans to be livin'
    [Verse 3]
See, my old man's got a problem
He live in the bottle, that's the way it is
He said his body's too old for working
His body's too young to look like his
So Mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said, somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
    [Pre-Chorus]
    You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
    Still gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way
    [Chorus]
So I remember when we were driving, driving in your car
Speed so fast, I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us and your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
    And I, I, had a feeling that I belonged
I, I, had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
    [Verse 4]
    You got a fast car
We go cruising and entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
So I work in the market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
And we'll move out of the shelter
Buy a bigger house, live in the suburbs
    [Chorus]
Said I remember when we were driving, driving in your car
Speed so fast, I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us and your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
    And I, I, had a feeling that I belonged
I, I, had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
    [Verse 5]
    You got a fast car
I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do your kids
    I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans, I ain't goin' nowhere
Take your fast car and keep on driving
    [Chorus]
So I remember when we were driving, driving in your car
Speed so fast, I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us and your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder
    And I, I, had a feeling that I belonged
I, I, had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
    [Instrumental Break]
    [Outro]
    You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
    Still gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way

LUKE COMBS AND TRACY CHAPMAN NEED TO PREFORM TOGETHER!!!!! I love that she’s happy about the rendition!!!! But holy crap, a duet would be incredible!!!!

I’ve wondered for years why a country singer hasn’t recorded this song and it’s good as i thought it would be, Thanks Luke. Now record Hall and Oats “Get Away Car” it’ll be another #1 for you 👍

I think this is a beautiful homage to a classic song and a cool way to honor Tracey Chapman. Bringing it to a new generation

The original is usually the best. But, dang! This cover is freaking wonderful. Keeping it simple and as close to the original was perfect. It’s a great song, sung by a man. Doesn’t make it better, just different and great in his way.

Sad some of y'all don't know this song before now, but so happy you've found it. A classic in its' own right, and too relatable. ❤

I just heard the reboot for the first time today. Like both versions. The original is always a classic of any song that is worth remaking.

Tracy Chapman sings this song with such authentic yearning and desperation that I don't think can ever be replicated. Still a good cover though.

David John Kelly, the Tracy Chapman version was our jam back in the day driving around Dallas after work, listening to the radio. I wish you could hear this version and we could go for a drive again. You left us too soon but hearing this tonight, it's like you're here.

Luke Combs is my absolute favorite, but I don't know if I'll buy his music from here on out as he's promoting Bubba Wallace with his picture appearing on the BLM/Antifa supporter's car at Daytona. Bubba, if you know his history, you know he is arguably NASCAR's most unpopular driver. Shame on you, Luke. There are more favorable drivers you could have chosen to promote "Fast Car."
