The Fantasy Sonata no. 1 for Violin and Piano by Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) is one of the three works of the genre written between 1912 and 1920, known as: Désespérance, possibly premiered in 1917. It is pertinent to highlight that, during this period of his life, Villa-Lobos moved between late romanticism and modernism, as well as nascent nationalism (neofolklorism).
