    I have seen many things keyboardwise in my 66 years, but this is spectacularly new. A three tier clavichord system playing Bach. I have never heard of this set up ever, and I must ask the question, is this historically accurate? It doesn't matter if it isn't because the logic behind it is wonderfully obvious. The playing is magical, and the overall sound is well worthy of an Album of CD music. Thank you so much. Wonderful. Dave in Yorkshire, England.

      ... and one thing to consider is that the pedal keys are analogously pressure | impulse sensitive, too (as for controlling feet and legs). other than on an organ where operating any key - how much transmission there ever be - would quasi digitally open | let close again a valve in principle, with characteristics of what the pipe will sound virtually invariable (I'm aware of some touch-related technicalities that would in particular address psycho-acoustic perception of dynamical variation - similar to harpsichord articulative means).

    Not being a classical piano, organ or harpsichord player but having known several, I definitely appreciate the majesty of this performance and that clavichord. A mentor of mine who once demonstrated a pedal harpsichord for me at the Metropolitan Museum of Art would definitely have respected and enjoyed this performance.
    Not only does this presentation bring that demonstration to mind, but it also brings up the various Don Dorsey and Gratziano Mandozzi recordings I grew up with (though they never included bass pedals), as well as a brief impulse that mentor of mine had to assemble a synthesizer/organ hybrid with 16 Minimoog Voyager modules for each of the 2 manuals and four modules for the pedalboard.

    The clavichord was the ideal instrument to perform on for organists, even in France, where all organists had a "manichordion" as late as the early 18th century. They were cheap instruments that were often built by organists themselves, and which didn't need some extra person for actioning the organ bellows. It is my opinion that, Bach's trio sonatas were actually not comlposed for the organ, but essentially for the clavichord. They are more convincing on the clavichord, since they display a variety of compositional details that are not idiomatic to the organ.

    Genius. Style and professionalism of the highest order. The supreme difficulty of the work and hypersensitivity of the instrument likely account for some unneveness of accent and touch, and I believe I heard a touch of tuning irregularity in the tenor, but these fade before the artistic statement, and indeed even provide distinctive features in character with the singularity and authenticity of the performance. We can only hope for a recording of the set of 6. Special thanks for sharing this superb musical experience Mr. Karosi.

      If the clavichords are not in today's tuning system, different music keys will sound less perfect. It's also difficult to tune these instruments, and they go out of tune quickly too.

    • @philippefritsch1892
      @philippefritsch1892 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MegaMech Intonation may vary slightly according to the way the instrument is being played. This characteristic enables to "tune" a bit while playing. This aspect of the clavichord has strangely enough not been studied as it deserves by musicians.

    • @MegaMech
      @MegaMech 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@philippefritsch1892 It has been studied. Try searching Jstor or watch authentic sound youtube channel for musical clavichord examples. The keyboard player controls the tuning like a singer does. It is a skill but likely not hard to play in tune. The tuning is changed for musical reasons. Watch goulda bach as well.

      @@MegaMech Ye, they do. I think you need go up to up to a spinet be4 they somewhat stabilize. Even the harpsichord i got in a practice room goes out of tune in some strings often. The hammerspinet i got in my study room is far more stable.

    An absolute revelation. Quite unlike anything else I've experienced...the pedal-board is really percussive. I imagine that playing the clavichord is exceptionally hard to do well, and it is played superbly well here.

    What also is beautiful IS that you have more sustain than on a harpsichord. Then you play it very subtely as if it was a simple pièce what IS remarkable.

    It is marvelous. It sounds beautiful and it is extremely well played.
    The very beginning of this piece even sounds a little bit Chinese (actually, many Bach masterworks could be played on Chinese instruments and sung the Chinese traditional way).
    When I see that we went from a pair of two keyboards plus pedal set to a single keyboard instrument, I believe we made great leaps backwards!
    Thank you for sharing this video.
