  • Psychotherapy clients often ask their mental health provider for progress letters, but what should a mental health clinician actually put in such a letter? How can a psychotherapist avoid creating a harmful scenario for the client while still offering support? And are mental health clinicians required to write progress letters?
Dr. Maelisa McCaffrey of QA Prep answers these questions and more in this recorded livestream from Wednesday, June 5th 2024.
    More specifically, you'll learn:
-What steps should a mental health counselor take after they receive such a request?
-What goes in a client progress letter for psychotherapy?
-What kinds of letters might a mental health clinician be asked to write?
-Do all mental health therapists have to write letters for clients and can they charge for this service?

Thoughts about gender affirming care letter requests?

@@LaviniaBailerina I would always keep things very fact based and stick with basics of care, since you never know the potential ramifications of a letter.

Yes, of course sticking to facts is always essential. The letter requirements however ask me as a clinician whether I believe the client would be able to deal with the repercussions of the surgery or do they have any other mental health issues that would make doing the gender confirming surgery Risk their mental health. And of course, this is asking for my opinion and speculation. I found my way around it, but I’m just curious about maybe this being a subject for another of your videos. I so appreciate the work you do to help us all!
