My great grandfather Charles Frederick Braine was the manager of Wanarajah Estate from 1880 to 1884. (He was the third manager.) He worshipped at Christ Church, Warleigh, and is supposedly buried there. But, on a visit some years ago, we could not find his grave. But we did find his baby son's grave at the Bogawantalawa church graveyard.
Thanks for watching. I hope you got the assistance of Felix Coulton the caretaker at the church. He has been there for decades and is the only person who has some knowledge of the gravestones. He has some interesting insights and its worth chatting to him as to getting clues in the search for your Great grandfathers grave.
@@DestinationSriLanka Thanks for quick response. I am not in SL at present. Could I have a phone number or email for Felix? Thanks again. You can email me at georgebraine at gmail.com
The church did not have electricity for about 30 years. In 2011, we restored the electricity with the patronage of Mr Buddikka Peries (a Buddhist planter from the Wanarajah group) 2. The organ was restored by installing a similar period organ from the UK by Mr Paul Bell in 2013
Thank you for commenting. The Wanarajah group looks after the needs of the church and is very responsive. It's so wonderful to see such an old pipe organ in working condition, and being used for services.
I would say even those of eighteen nineties, if one would let one's imagination run riot. I visited this church about ten years ago, with my three children on a trip to Maskeliya and was quite impressed with this church. Incidentally, I am an Anglican.
It is sad that this video commentary, while dwelling poignantly on the planter society of the past, totally ignores the equally poignant social reality of today so well depicted by the video itself - namely that the celebrants of Anglican worship shown are the Malaihal Thamils who continue to live and toil more or less in the same manner they toiled under the White Planters of yore. The very ignoring of the humans depicted in the video is both ironic and cynical. The former slaves are not quite the 'masters' although they may occupy their former masters' pews every Sunday. Hopefully, these post colonial parishioners are at least buried there!

Brings back beautiful memories of the nineteen eighties etched deeply never to be forgotten.

Praise the lord
I went to this Church as a child
👍🏽
Halleluah 🙏
Instead of dubbing throughout, you should have included a part with original sound of the pipe organ and singing
Thanks for the feedback
