Mxracer6y 1) The price will come down, but right now, they are starting small and selling mostly to the rich people who have to have the latest anything. 2) It can't sink, it's positively buoyant. Not even if you put a hole in the hull. 3) There are dealers across the country trained to service it. 4) Is it a joke because you secretly want one and can't afford it? This looks like a blast! 45 mph is pretty fast for a vehicle that can do both, imo. Compared to our machines or the Argo, that's lightspeed.

Gibbs tried to sell an amphibious car in America, but the laws that govern cars won't allow you to sell a car WITHOUT a catalytic converter in it, and on the opposite side the laws that govern boats won't allow you to sell a boat WITH a catalytic converter in it (it gets too hot, and they feel it might start a fire), so Gibbs could not sell an amphibious car in America without violating one of those two laws.
I had a simple way to get around that law: put the catalytic converter up above the hood, that way it's NOT inside the vehicle, and it would be one way to get around the marine laws banning catalytic converters inside a marine vehicle.
It's perfect. The wheels are too small to look like a normal quad, and the fenders make the body too big to look like a jetski. You couldn't ask for a more perfectly awkward vehicle!
It has a 4 cylinder 1300cc 16 valve DOHC with 175hp, BUT it is electronically LIMITED to 80hp on land, and to 140hp on water. Maximum speed on land and water is up to 45 mph. It weighs 1,300 pounds and measures more than 10-feet long. It can't go through shallows, or you foul the propeller and lose a lot of power. It will not work on tight back-country trails because of its size, but on two tracks and open space it will work fine. It's not for the common ATV driver like me. Oh yes, if you want it in camo, it's a $2,500 extra...

It's obviously a rich person's toy that's otherwise largely useless or without merit for the price. Which is not necessarily a bad thing :)
I do however think that they could have arrived at a better compromise if they went for a smaller vehicle. When you go smaller things get cheaper fast. The BMW engine is no doubt very expensive so if it was a smaller vehicle you could probably do fine with a 2-cylinder 600cc chinese motorcycle engine at 1/10th the price.
Or for $40,000... Get this you can buy a jet ski and ATV and a trailer and you can customize all of that for less than 40 grand

I read an article that the company states that some $200 million have been invested in the vehicle's 15 year development. And that they can produce about 20 units per hour. And that yacht-makers are already designing these things into their vessels... I guess if you can buy a new yacht, the optional Quadski is a bargain...
I gotta have one of these.....
The only problem I would have with this thing is it kinda looks stupid on land with the small wheels. But I understand that they need to be small for converting to water

They need a more heavy duty version for lifeguards, law enforcement. One that can handle more than 250lbs.

Matt Rodriguez No shit. But it does mean that pushing the limits over the course of time will over stress the motor and lead to premature failure. It's a 1200cc engine that is already carrying 3x more weight just in the build than it would if in a motorcycle, plus passenger weight.

If the hull gets damaged off road,the cost of repair is probably outrageous.Any Insurance company would be a fool,to put any coverage on something like this.For $40.000 I can go and buy a real boat,and watercraft.This would be good for a drug runner!!
bmw motor ? please gibbs use honda or toyota or yamaha engine and cut the price way down, i love bmw m power but for reliability and price and maintenance, a more reliable cheaper engine would be great for a vehicle like this

The trouble with vehicles that try do be two things at once is that it does neither well. Better to buy a really good quad and a really good PWC. Combined, they cost less than this. For $40,000 you can get a pretty sweet PWC and a pretty sweet quad and have money left over.
Have fun using your two toys one at a time, Azimuth. But you'll never be able to do what a Quadski can do.

For $40,000? I stand by my original comment. This is neither a good quad, nor a good jet ski. I can spend less and buy a good quad and a good jet ski, both of which will out-perform this thing.
Not disagreeing with you, Azimuth. Gibbs has never claimed that the Quadski is the ultimate off-road ATV nor have they claimed it is as good as the best PWCs.
But I stand by my comment: your quad and PWC will never be able to do what a Quadski can do.

Well they do make electric engines like the Tesla from the first roadster that weigs just over 70lbs, but I guess the battery back would add significant weight to it. But then again so does gas, what about the BMW hydrogen powered engines that can switch from gas to hydrogen depending on what is available? Or those cool HHO generators all over TH-cam.

The issue I have with this is that it's a really shitty ATV and a really shitty jetski. It seems like a fun idea and I'm not even that mad at the price, but it's just not good at either of the jobs it's supposed to be good at.
