    This lesson is awesome! Been using some of the patterns you are showing without thinking to much about it. But having someone explaining the theory behind it like this is so useful. Thank you very much!

    Excellent lesson, my problem is remembering all the notes for each chords. But the mystery has been revealed. Thank you very much. I think in the future just as you have shown the chords for the 16 bars, please add the notes to the chords....

    Mark, I think it was in this video that you talked about avoiding open strings (ie using a fretted note of the same pitch instead). What's the reason for this? Thanks!

    • @talkingbasslessons
      @talkingbasslessons  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Chris Edwards Hiya. I often mention avoiding open strings simply because you have less control over them and they're also tonally different from fretted notes. However, that doesn't mean avoiding them all the time. It's more a 'preference' for fretted notes. Open strings are often really great for allowing you the time to make a position shift or might have the sound you need.
      Also, using fretted exclusively when learning the notes in that lower first position is great because you then only have one instance of each pitch to think about. You avoid having to make decisions about whether to play the A at the 5th fret or the open A etc.

      +TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons Thanks for the comprehensive and super fast reply! This lesson was really helpful for me, I'd been working on arpeggios in all inversions but only going up; going down felt like learning them all over again! But it's really helped with fretboard visualisation when playing through progressions.

      I think the name of the channel gives the game away.. There are plenty of other channels where they just say a few things and assume you know... which sort of defeats the idea of the educational video.
