This is golden ! Ju Wenjun coming to help as a translator, and Magnus laughing at the scene in the background xD
14:30 Ju Wenjun started speaking Mandarin to the arbiter, lol
classic blunder
@@user-tz7ov9rz1i Yes, it can be really hard to switch sometimes, especially given that GM Hong was also speaking Chinese 🙂
Language gambit declined
For anyone interested, here's a rough translation/summary of the conversation between the two players at 9:20 (I can't provide a line by line translation because the audio is a bit unclear, especially when Hong speaks):
In the beginning, Yu says there was at least one instance during the game where Hong used one hand to move the pieces and another to punch the clock (which is illegal). He says that when Hong did so, Yu did not complain. Yu then says, "I'm not going to say anything now; we'll see what the arbiter says. I never touched the clock." I can't quite make out Hong's response, but afterwards Yu says, "I didn't do anything; I didn't even touch the clock," and later, "Go talk to the arbiter about this. This is an issue with the clock; what does it have to do with me?" That's when Hong walks away.
Hong was being a weasel trying to get out of a lost. He screwed up and tried to draw Yu into it but Yu has nothing to do with it.
If a player is moving a piece with one hand and hitting the clock with the other, which is illegal, Yu should stop the clock and call the arbiter
@@TheGrandmasterMan My guess is Yu was confident he could win without going through that whole process, considering he was much higher rated than his opponent (and, of course, it turned out that was exactly the case).
after yu said the thing about never touching the clock, hong said, "then what did you think happened".
Ju Wenjun is the real MVP
This Norway tv never fails to provide live interview on spot😂
All these guys are fierce competitions still they can talk and laugh with each other,
this is amazing.
Hong's being a weasel. He can't deal with the fact that he screwed up pressing the clock.
Yeah they all laugh unless the drama is involving them
My best guess is that happened the samething than in Carlsen x Holt. You can see it in the video "Why did Magnus Carlsen apologize to his opponent immediately after the game?" in this same channel.
Good call. Seems like poor clock design.
Yea that might just be what happened (@ 5 min. 30 sec. of the Carlsen apology video). Nice job Sherlock Holmes
Summary for what happened.
Hong press the clock way to lightly on time trouble, which made the clock bounce back, (at one point on the video they even demonstrante this happening), and he lost on time. Hong was arguing that it was not his fault, and te arbiter were arguing that it was indeed his fault.
I think it was Hong fault, it's unfortunate, but he lost, this is not a malfunction, just an unfortunate event, you need to fully press the button.
Feels bad for Yu Yangyi, he was visibly frustrated, and he proceeded to perform poorly after this game.
Yu has reached the final goal of chess. to have the women's world champion work as his translator.
Magnus is there like a little kid just laghing at the drama, gotta love him dude
magnus laughing at side i think he already know what happen to this scenario hehe
This is why i love world rapid and blitz championship so much , these small incidents are so entertaining to watch
What happened at ~5:22 was probably what happened during the game as well. I have played with these clocks (I believe it's still the same version, at least the same brand) before, unfortunately it can bounce back when you press it lightly (more accurately, maybe staccato or leggieramente in musical terms). I had to press it back and actually eneded up gaining more time. I don't think there is a problem with this particular clock though.
These are standard tournament clocks. As a GM, Hong has used these on countless occasions. He screwed up his press and somehow tried to weasel out of the loss by blaming the clock. What a guy...
I don't think he was trying to "weasel out of the loss". Clock bouncing back after you pressed it simply should not happen. He was naturally upset about the problem. Unfortunately, replacing the clocks with better ones is not a feasible option. Overall it was just an unfortunate accident and I agree with the appeal commitee's decision.
@@tianledeng6179 Clock bouncing back happened because he pressed the middle instead of his end of the clock. User error. He's weaseling out of his own user error.
@@cw9282 Not true, have you watched what happened at ~5:22 (it is literally the opposite of what you described -- he pressed too far from the centre!)? Also have you used such DGT clocks before?
@@tianledeng6179 Not true that it was a user error? Funny how 3 arbiters looked at the clock and found no malfunction with it and ruled against Hong. Also funny how through so many tournaments where this clock is used, only Hong claimed such a clock malfunction.
I find it so funny how everyone is gathering around the board. Even Magnus is there lol.
Because this dispute has blown out of proportion and delayed the event, other players have arrived on time but they can't play.
@@VanceHelw Can thank Hong for that. He was being such a brat who couldn't accept that he screwed up.
11:40 bro was looking at him like he wanna fight him 😂
That's Hong for yah... Yu had nothing to do with Hong pressing the clock. Hong just lost a lot of respect from the chess community which can see past his weaseling.
He thinks he's IP man or something 🤷♂
this affected young man so seriously that he lost four games straight after this.....he was on a 4 win streak before this
Love this channel for all the juicy behind the scenes ☕️
🧃🧃🧃
🕳️🕳️🕳️
Well put expression. I'll use it. "Juicy"
I agree. Sans video evidence, there is little else an arbiter can do. Liked Pragg's thinking; I wud look for witnesses in nearby boards - but yeah, most people see the game, n not clock. One other thing to consider is the DGT live game viewer, to see what happened. It usually records only movements of pieces on the board. And the "games broadcast" to see if the countdown timer shifted from one player to the other. The 360 camera idea - hmm - are we sure we can zoom into a particular "sector" of the video/freeze. This is critical. We are after all talking about noticing the clock from up above, let's say.
5:21 it was at this moment he knew....he fked up
17:05 look at anish and vidit they look like two friends who are interested in gossips. So cute😂
For the gentlemen -> 5:22 13:04 14:41 16:04
Man of culture 😂
@@saladman9610
Thank you, sir. 🙂
That’s why I’m here haha
this is how these chinese guys fight where as dubo and nepo givng their half points which now might make them lose their potential 1st point and draw in a comedy shows the true bond and how russians really are united
They tested the clock and and it was completely fine.. If Hong pressed the clock and Yu didn't, then it just simply means that Hong didn't press it down properly. End of story. There was no need for that long delay lol.
5:22 shows what must have happened. It's just that they can't agree on what that means. The player thinks he was cheated by the clock, the arbiter ("you just did it now") thinks it shows an error by the player.
magnus just laughing 😅 15:01
Idk why I like ju wenjun's appearance in this case
@AnishGiriOfficial you need to come up with chessable course about how to press the clock now.
when the 2 players talk they seem to be debating over if the clock was misfunctioning and Andrew proposed a rematch and Yu would like to defer to arbiter's decision on whether or not that's needed.
If and only yu ywangi was strong enough to prove his point, this problem was a matter of minutes. I mean the opponent tried his best by pressing the officials into believing him which delayed the outcome. Anyways it was interesting.
Yu was being a gentlemen and gave his opponent time to argue his case. But Hong was being a bit of a brat by trying to draw Yu into it, and I could sense Yu's frustration given he has nothing to do with Hong messing up on pressing the clock.
Obviously there is a language barrier for Yu as the complaint is done in English so its hard to fault him for not pressing his case stronger if that's even the case.
I don't understand how this kind of drama can still happen even though there's like a bajillion cameras everywhere. Surely the simplest solution would be to always record a closeup of the clock and the chessboard to dispel any doubt about what ever happens during a match? It's just weird you have to ask eyewitnesses and deal with players testifying against each other...
Lmao Magnus at 13:10 😂
Laughing at how ridiculous the situation is
Hong was adamant to continuing playing from the position, but Yu said “if the arbiter says we should play then I play”, and Hong was visibly annoywd
Seems like Anish GIri has joined the Indian Gang
Show the game video of what happened ?
5:20 bro proves himself wrong, by showing exactly what happened. Later confirmed by Arjun!
These incidents are always the best at the rapid and blitz wc
13:14 cameraman is man of culture
Proof that Ju Wenjun is an angel
There is something wrong in the appeal because it states in the beginning „with a few MINUTES left“ which should obviously be seconds
Yu wanted to slap the spoiledism out of him.
17:17 look at somebody just the way anish looks at vidit 😂
also this is the obvious difference between a +2700 super grandmaster , winner of many tournaments & someone who has been in the top level of chess for a decade comparing to an unknown & fresh GM.
They should go back to 3 second increments in the blitz. 2 seconds provokes unpleasant disputes about the clock and about sloppy piece placement. The players are actually good about it, and nobody complains when you get a sequence of bad piece placement, pressing the clock, adjusting the piece while the opponents time is running. But the crazy 2 second scramble really makes it undignified. Online it's more reasonable because you don't have these side effects, but otb it's just a bad idea.
15:21 Magnus casually thinking "Yea nah, I could beat of these guys in a 30 seconds odds"
Andrew seriously trying to blame the clock when he pressed it improperly? Lost all respect for the guy. If you screwed up, you own up to it and not blame an inanimate object to try to weasel out of a loss.
really appreciate chessbase india for this video
13:11 Magnus laughing his 🍑 off. Ju wenjun world champion + translator
DUDE, it's Ju Wenjun!
@@user-tz7ov9rz1i ya I messed up with the name but not the title.
19:37 Well, Anish did get his answer. Hong didn't have to pay the appeal fees after all.
Yu Yangyi was pissed.
I would be jumping 5 feet in the air if I was in his shoes.
Obviously hong was acting like a lil bi....
@@Viva-la-de-hs4ub bi? Bisexual?

Magnus is like " why are they still there?" 😂😂😂😂
what's the use of all the cctvs if you cannot play it in slow motion then decide
Anish giri is officially indian 😂
Not the machine; the operator.
Magnus be like: Mate in 77 moves. Why these guys are even argue?
After 22 minutes video, I am still confused who is Yu and who is Hong!! Is it just me?
Yes. 100%.
The one who claimed the appeal is Hong (Guy with white shirt) and the one with blue blazer was Yu.
Only ChessBase India makes videos from gameplay incidents.
Why did they call Ju Wenjun for translation when Andrew Wong can help the arbiter to translate what Yu Yangyi is saying?
It wouldn't be appropriate to have the opponent translate because he is not a neutral party.
who is Andrew Wong? anyway it's probably because they need an independent party who is not invested in the outcome of the result
what if andrew wong say the opposite of what yu yangvi say just for get a rematch or take a draw ?
Arbiter: Tell Yu Yangyi if he says "no," then he admits he touched the clock and the game will restart. That will be an irreversible final decision.
Andrew: Hey, the arbiter says if you say "no," you will get an upgraded hotel room.
Yu Yangyi: No.
Arbiter: Okay, restart the game.
Yu Yangyi: WTF.
@@radjedi2010 😆
Broooo even after an issue its so quite there 😂😭
Arbiters did not believe him
hey why dont you make a 20 minute video about a situation but be sure we cant hear a thing about the issue. that is a really really really good video...
Arbiter: "Is there ANYONE, really literally ANYONE who could translate chinese to english here?"
*Womens World Champion casually rolling in*
And Magnus laughing his ass off that the Womens World Champion has to come to help her male countrymate... 🤣🤣
Yeah DGT 3000 requires more force. You can't just tap it, you have to pretty much slam it
14:43 that female journalist looks so pretty😍 ❤
17:49 I wonder why the arbiters didn't ask for any eyewitnesses.
5:30 nice!
Hong was a sore loser. You could tell from his demeanor that he knew he lost
now we know why the clock of wesley so was bloody😅
Chess speaks for itself!
5:30 who is she?
These are the real questions
Answers are required for this most urgent matter!
She looks like the interviewer who interview Dubov in a different video.
@@cris-yo1950 is she single?
She is a South African chess player
9:14 Could someone who speaks Chinese kindly tell us what they are discussing? Thanks in advance.
Why can't you check the move number in the DGT clock? It was a faster solution
Because hong claimed clock malfunction. I don’t think you should check a supposedly malfunctioned clock to prove it’s not malfunctioning
Why not video tape every match so that disagreements can be reviewed by the officials. How much would that cost?
To much
5:18 he just proved the arbiters point that it was his fault because he didnt press the clock correctly XD
Magnus discussig other position 18:04
Gentlemen fret not, The name is "Charlize van Zyl"
Magnus is enjoying the moment😂😂😂😂
The desperation!
Call the VAR
This gave me anxiety 😬
All of this was the clock's fault. Why no one gets it??
Norwegian reporter team is everywhere at the same time...😂
One little kid changed the whole tournament
Tbh Magnus is acting like an asshole here. That player is probably embarrassed and would feel bad to see a video of Magnus laughing at this situation.
Clock made in China and assembled in US to allow remote control in case needed.
clock malfunction is unlucky
Clock malfunction is unlikely. Perhaps the operator.
Andrew Hong (2460) how he got GM title 😀
Tell me you know nothing about chess!
