I enjoyed this video very much. Joe, you seem a pretty "down to earth" kind of guy and you don't put on any pretenses. Definitely could see myself grabbing a pint with you at the local pub! This is the second video I've watched from "Mostly Off-topic". The first one I watched was when your whole group was sitting around the table and you had that nice "roundtable" discussion. I'm a TOR fan and really like the insights you and your group are sharing. In fact, TOR is probably my favorite rpg that I have ever played--and as a 50 year old guy, I have played a lot of rpgs over the years! Thank you all so much for taking the time to film these videos!
Hey Sean. It certainly is overwhelming at first. Don't let that put you off. Your players will give you time to get to grips with it all. It's partly on them to remember rules and engage in the storytelling as well. You're not responsible for everyone and everything in the game.
Having only played adventures in middle earth, I'd love to see how ToR handles departures, audiences, and such (full disclosure... I just started watching, and you may have already covered these is your series)
We're not especially familiar with AiME (though we do know the D&D 5e engine). Joe's got videos up on Encounters and Journeys which may be of interest.
It would be interesting to know if you think your One Ring 1e GM tips need any amendment to apply to 2e, or are they just fine (and applicable to the new version) as is?
I've ran a lot of Middle Earth campaigns, but never using the TOR rules. Another very interesting period in Rhovanion and Arnor is the years preluding the destruction of the north kingdom in the 1960's up through TA 1974, which is when the Witch Kings defeated Arnor. There is a lot of material out there iin the MERP line and Rolemaster. Tons of modules that could be adapted to TOR. It's key to keep within the spirit of Tolkien and many of the modules need some tuning.
@@MostlyOfftopic Well to be honest I’ve just discovered the TOR rules. I was mostly satisfied with my home rules version of Rolemaster and using it in the Middle Earth setting so I never went RPG shopping in decades. I am sick of RM and have been looking to run ME again using another rules set. I’m looking at Harnmaster, Burning Wheel and will browse the TOR rules as well to find the right fit. Right now I have three players and this will start slowly with my solo campaign approach and meander until everyone is free to pickup this game night on an every other Friday basis. I expect a full merge by spring/summer of 2021. Right now after I stopped my 3 year campaign one of the players is running Traveller in the meantime. Once he is done, I will start in on a new middle earth game. I’m looking for 1-2 more serious players.
@@johnmadison479 I'd be interested to know how you think they relate to RM, Harnmaster and Burning Wheel. I've some passing familiarity with all three of those systems but not ran anyone of them seriously. I like how your slow burn approach helps grow the campaign organically.
@@MostlyOfftopic I've been looking for a real copy of TOR rules and they are crazy expensive now, being out of print. Also it looks like the 2nd Edition is dead because Cubicle 7 dropped the product line.
2e has been picked up by Free League, and is (apparently) on for a 2021 release. The focus has moved from Rhovanion to the Shire / Bree-land in the core release according to the lead designer.
I like your honesty and openness about running the game.
Thanks! I'm learning a lot, and I definitely want to keep improving my GM skills.

Dude I'm about to be running a campaign and these videos are a god-send! Thank you!
Thanks man, good to hear they're useful!
Brilliant video, looking forward to more episodes keep it up!!
Thanks! Definitely doing more of these.
Can't wait to dive I to my book of this, not going to lie though I am intimated by it with how much stuff is in it. First time dm here

Is there a particular reason you shy away from the TOR rules? I've got quite a lot of MERP material but never looked at converting it.
