I have one game from the SWWAS series, Midway first edition, which my dad bought a while back. I'm considering buying SWWAS Coral Sea to dive into it easily, but I still don't think I could find the time to play properly. I typically play games that are 6-10 hours long, 12 at most...
The comment about the Japanese not knowing the American carriers were in the area at Midway is completely wrong. The whole point of the campaign was to draw them out and destroy them.
You're right about the point of the campaign, but from what I've read or heard in documentaries, the Japanese hadn't realized that the Americans were there at the time that there were. Their air patrols had not spotted the American carriers, and the submarines they had between Midway and Pearl Harbor arrived too late to see the carriers leave Hawaii. Part of the reason why they failed is because they insisted on attacking the island when the carriers were there. The Battlefield episode on the battle of Midway explains this very well, I highly recommend watching it to anyone who's interested on this topic : th-cam.com/video/1w30FkSXyTE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=VasileIuga
all my counters have good rounded corners =) I use the Oregon Deluxe Laminations Corner Clipper in 2.5mm. think it cost me $45 from amazon but has been worths its weight in gold. and it has to be the Deluxe...it works the best..the standard requires you to line it up a bit more and if you dont pay attention the counter can get clipped at an odd angle
Thanks for the videos, about time the IIWW@S series got Utubed, remember to link it on Boardgame Geek. please. I use dummies for some Task forces. I agree the orders log sheets rubbish, no space for changes, & the night/twilight boxes are useless.
you are welcome! Im really surprised at the lack of video coverage that this game has. For a system thats been out for 10 years, you would think that there was SOMETHING out there on it
You just made the case why I dropped Avalanche Press and GWAS (Plus derivatives) from my table a long time ago.
the lack of a double blind? Yeah i get it. I understand why it may piss people off...expecially in GWAS.
Apparently my dad helped co-design this game, so that's cool, guess I gotta figure out how to play it now.
Good overview. Looking forward to how the campaign plays out.
