I've run out of patience with EG4 & Signature Solar. I have attempted to provide helpful advice to Signature Solar on the dip switch settings, which, like much of the other feedback I've provided, was and is continually ignored and ridiculed.

    Lance:
I have 3 different EG4 banks, with each one having unique challenges. My first step was to plug a computer into the RG port and create my own table for the DIP switches of that model. On the system that is closed loop to the Growatt Inverter the batteries are daisy chained which made it impossible to monitor each battery individually. To overcome this, I ran a CAT5 cable from each battery to a rotary switch and then to the computer. Actually 4 switches as I could only find 4 port on Amazon. On another bank the BMS tools sees all the batteries that are daisy chained. However this bank is connected to an older inverter so no communication between the batteries and inverter. There appears to be no standard in all this, and I do not foresee one in the future. Too many manufacturers of batteries and inverters. Good luck to everyone!

I went with what I know. The manuals show the dip switches where lite color is up or dark color is up so…4 position dip switches. Left to right..1,2,3 and 4. Count..1…..2….4…8. 1 in dip switch 1. Up.
15 is all dip switch’s up. Etc. it’s a binary count left to right. I have three different EG4 48 volt batteries and they finally all talk together and talk to my SolArk

Just went through this nightmare. Days of trouble shooting, is it the cable, the dip switches or the inverter!? Printed manual and the online manual are clearly different.

Dip switches all down on the 4 dip switch batteries and all up on the 6 dip switch batteries to mess with settings

I am glad I ending up getting the Jakiper/ Orient Power instead of EG4 because the software is so much better to monitor and check on the parameters in the bms. I am helping my brother with is EG4LL v2 batteries. First I found out that the included printed manual he got with them had different charging parameters than a recently downloaded manual. The downloaded manual shows different software version from what is available on the EG4 software downloads . Manual shows V2.2.2 but the website has a V 1.0 software. I emailed and asked them and they said v 1.0 is the newest one.

Thanks for the rant. Maybe Signature will make improvements because of it. I bought three batches of batteries from Signature and each was different (Gylls/Lifepower4s). I think the manufacturer makes the changes and Signature is stuck having to make things right with their customers (version 1 vs version 2, etc.). I read somewhere that a batch of batteries was shipped with the dip switches mounted upside down. I have been enjoying the closed loop communications between my inverters and my Lifepower4 batteries. I wish that they could be daisy chained with my Gylls that are part of the same battery bank. All in all, I am pretty happy. I would be surprised if Signature stopped supporting daisy chaining the Eg4ll batteries. Would that negate the benefit of closed loop communications?

I don't like to rant, but I'm fed up. My time is valuable, and Signature Solar wastes a lot of it. I should have been more clear in the video. They support the closed loop with the EG4 inverters (I currently have an Outback), but not with the BMS Tools software. I may need to do an additional video on the dip switches on the EG4 LL V2, and I'm going to experiment on a way to get the daisy chain to work on BMS Tools. If I can get that working, I'll do another video on that.

@@jvm3753ahh, yeah my inverter does see that I have them wired in 48v and shows the percentages, but when I plug the grid in it immediately goes into bypass mode and supplies power to the load but doesn't charge the batteries.

@@Brun18ette Oh, ok. I haven't connected mine to my solar array yet. I know you have to program what order you want to charge your batteries, whether solar, grid, or ....
When I had my issue, I wondered if that was my problem, because mine was set for solar, then grid, for charging. So since wasn't connected to solar, I changed it.

I've never dealt with this company, well, what I mean is that I tried to get pre-sales support and my emails and attempts to call them on the phone resulted in zero call backs or replies. I wouldn't touch them or the products they sell with a barge pole. Maybe they're a great company but my non-customer experiences with them was less than stellar.

I've had numerous problems with Signature Solar and the EG4 products. That being said, I think they are challenged by fast growth. If they would just address the feedback that is readily available, they could easily fix many of the issues.

Horrible experience for me as well. Was ready to purchase there but rude and accusatory over them never answering the phone over four days on hold and endless hours of elevator music. Went elsewhere (Shop Solar) who answered the phone and made my purchase there (cheaper too). Signature Solar gets none of my money, ever.

Well I guess I'm a bit late to the party, but you all know why I'm here. The "manual" said to set the baud rate to 19200. Well that didn't work... Setting the dip switches according to the "manual" is a joke. I'm $12k in, and have a client expecting results, so... yeah, here we go down the reverse engineering rabbit hole. Oh, and if anybody knows if these will actually communicate over CAN bus with SMA inverters, please do tell. At least I have that in writing from the "tech support" at EG4, whatever that is worth....

@@lanceknoechel8945 LL V2 I'll check those videos out, thanks. These are supposed to close loop communicate with SMA Sunny Island inverters, but I'm not very optimistic at this point. Especially since apparently I can't monitor with BS tools while using the CAN port. I'm really curious what the battery comm daisy chain actually does. In your situation, without closed loop comms, what would the batteries be communicating to each other, and how would you know if the daisy chain even works?

  • @mysolaraddiction

Agree with you that Signature Solar or EG4 the company should have better videos and manuals on how to setup the batteries. Here is a link to a guy who figured out how to setup the batteries. They may not be the same generation of battery which is mentioned at the end of the video since the new products keep coming out faster than companies can keep up with support.
    th-cam.com/video/A0bqClj5urg/w-d-xo.html
You may want to skip to around 16:00 minutes in when he discusses how to do the firmware update on each prior to connecting the batteries in series.
I understand your frustration.. I find many of these companies have poor customer service. I think part of the problem is that the companies we're dealing with are just middle men and not the manufacturer and most of this stuff comes from China. I've had language barriers in communication as result when things get too technical. I don't own any EG4 batteries, yet... I plan to buy a rack of EG4 LL's and I ran across your video in my research. I hope this helped.
Remember to breath brother... don't let this get your pressure up.
