Jason is still a huge inspiration to me. I see him everytime he comes to North Texas or the southern Oklahoma casinos. Saw him front row at Billy Bob's last August. I'm about to pick up my 3 year chip in July, I've gotten a beautiful fiancée, two beautiful stepchildren, and a 1 year old angel named Rosalee. Isbell was there in my darkest days and now gets me through this thing one day at a time.
That 3rd verse kills me every time. If you have daughters you know what Jason is saying.
Danced with my daughter to this song at her wedding last year. The song captured the journey perfectly.

My best dad moment was being in the front row at the Austin City Limits show last summer with my wife and three college-age daughters.....and for them to understand the moment. Bucket list moment. Thx Jason & Amanda!
Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear this song.
When this album was released this song shook me. Couldn't wait to share it with my dad at my wedding.. but never got to. We lost him last month. Finally have the guts to give it a listen... grief gets worse before it gets better I guess

I got to hang out with Amanda about 10 years ago. She was playing just her fiddle and singing and had one extra guitar player and that was it. The show was being held at an art gallery and to be quite honest I never even heard of Amanda Shires up to that point until a buddy of mine invited me along to the show.
She was an absolute doll.! She was so friendly and she took the time to actually talk to you and not just say hi and sign a CD and move on.
There was also a record show that night and she was going through the records that she bought with me and we were discussing the various styles of music that we both liked.
Like I said it was only her and one guitar player and that night and I fell in love with her music and her sound immediately!
She was supporting her album "Carrying Lightning" so of course I bought a copy of the CD and she did sign it which was very kind of her and I also bought her other CD "West Cross Timbers" That night as well. That's how impressed I was with her. and then even after the show she still hung around and just carried on with everybody and she was just an absolute down-to-earth person to be around. I hope she is still the same way that she was that night.

Toby Mummert, that is a violin, not a fiddle. A fiddle has 5 strings. A violin has 4 which is what Amanda is playing.
