I love all Frank's music but his guitar playing in this era of the 70s is my favorite. He let the guitar have a lot of space to breathe between phrases and riffs. His solos also had a lot of good musical quotes that blended well into whatever key was playing in.

damn! almost every video I have seen of Frank playing live, he's always smiling and some giggle can be seen... this man was a true genius and he enjoyed it a lot. I really enjoy all his music, every tune and arrangement is just... impressive
I love how he laughed sometimes when he knew some music had silly lyrics. Nice. That claymation was also funny. Some of his songs even have a simple progression like this one.
Some of his songs are literally 2 chords...the same 2 chords...thAts one change...for 8 minutes straight if not longer. But they are still incredibly interesting, never get boring, and sound unlike anything’s else. Some of those songs are my personal favorites. He was so full of talent and creativity, so much so that it’s hard to imagine any other musician/composer, save for a few who were equally genius, that came anywhere near the amount of output and singularly unique creativity. We truly are blessed that he decided to make making music his life’s work.
Yes if there is anyone who could write a song about anything it was definitely Frank Zappa! The man was a genius for sure, he refused to dumb himself down with drugs! Something I finally stopped doing a year ago! It’s probably what held me back musically! But I’ll always have hope and faith, that one day I’ll have the job I know I was always meant to do!!!! 🎶🎶🎵🎵🎸🎸🙌🏻☮️😇😎
As a guitarist, Zappa had the pleasure of making up his solo right on the spot. Sometimes he played bum notes, and other times he went off into a place which took him and the audience to another plane. He himself said he shouldn't be rated along with the greatest of guitarists. Those guys rehearsed their solos to perfection and would always wow the audience, but for him to take the chance on just making it up on the spot was more entertaining for him. Take the guitar solo known as Occam's Razor. It had been edited down to become "On The Bus" on Joe's Garage, but the original solo lasted just under 10 minutes and was the guitar solo from Inca Roads, played live in 1978. I ask, how many guitarists play a solo for 10 minutes and keep it fresh? That was Zappa!
I thought he was like the 70's version of Weird Al Yankovic growing up. Just goofy crap. Songs like this just backed that up. It wasn't until I became an adult that I could appreciate the brilliance of his writing and musicianship. Now that I am a guitarist, I can REALLY appreciate how good this guy really is.
I may actually like his comedy music better than his "serious" music. Although they intersect, and there's a bit of his twisted sense of humor in making the London Symphony Orchestra play compositions that originally had lyrics like "squat on my blaster, make it go faster".
Waka jawaka and weasels ripped my flesh were my intro to zappa. For a guitar player that’s always wanted more than what I knew I knew, it still blows me away.
