Time Pirate When direct dialing first came out, 555-1212 was designated as directory assistance for every area code, because few, if any, existing word-based exchanges (such as "BUtterfield 8") translated to the numbers 55, since 5 on US dials had the letters JKL, and few words or names in English begin with JJ, JK, JL, KJ, KK, KL, LJ, LK, or LL. So there were most likely few numbers in exchanges like LLama, LLoyd, or LLewellen. Maybe the place you grew up was one of those few. Later, when the AT&T monopoly in interstate long distance was broken up (in 1984), 555-4141 was set up to verify your default long distance carrier. And the entire 555-xxxx range in every area code was set aside for phone company internal and technical lines, which was many more than needed, so the rest became available for fictional numbers (since there's always some idiot who would try to call Ghostbusters in real life).
Time Pirate same, my home telephone number also starts with 555. I think in the EU it has something to do with the region you live in, because the phone numbers of many of my friends who live near me also start with 555.
oceanic air - the most unfortunate airline company in the fictional universe. you think after a couple aircrashes, people would stop buying tickets but nah
In _Lost,_ Oceanic appears to be pretty much the only airline other than the fictional Ajira Air. There is a scene where Jack purchased plane tickets for his honeymoon, and he shows his wife the Oceanic tickets.
The greatest marketing champaign would be if someone where to start an Airline called Oceanic Airlines as they would have commercials through so many movies/series/comics.
Benjamin Tomassen Nordahl But they would also be indelibly associated with disasters! Might as well have as an advertising slogan, "We don't ALWAYS crash." Oceanic would be as bad a name for a real airline as Sal Monella's Diner.
yeah, but that's why it would be a good idea the slogan could be "We crash in movies so that we don't need to crash in real life." or something like that
Also, how did you research all this? Where do you look up which fake airline is being advertised on a taxi in a random daredevil comic? Did you simply consume all media known to man just to be thorough?!
"Greatest ad campaign of all time." I beg to differ; I would definitely not fly Oceanic. Their planes seem to crash an unusually large amount of the time.
This made me look up the flight in Final Destination to see if they used the same airline. They didn't. That was Volée Flight 180... which just mean Flight Flight and now I'm sad I actually looked that up.
Whenever the Mythbusters show did an airline related experiment, they used the name Mythbustair. And for boat related tests they named the boat Mythtanic (with a Roman numeral).
A quick search on google dictionary returned this: - a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result. plural noun: ironies "the irony is that I thought he could help me" synonyms: paradox, paradoxical nature, incongruity, incongruousness, peculiarity "the irony of the situation hit her" Notice the quote, in which "irony" is used to express a form of backward sarcasm, or the unlikelihood of an outcome. In this sense, the original poster found ironic and maybe even hilarious that, the day he started watching the series, the peculiar event of one of his subscriptions pulling out a Lost themed video happened, as the event itself is coincidental and unlikely. In short, most unlikely and coincidental events can be ironic to a degree, for their own exceptional nature of paradox (paradox meaning what's beyond or contrary to common sense, and by extent what is unexpected to happen)
Heres an idea. The last thing is about oceanic flight #1701 by a time traveling man. 1701 are the enterprises numbers from star trek. Now what if the time traveler was from the enterprise? There's has been cases of certain members traveling back to the 60s era on the show. so that would be a cool connection. Just a thought
What will you think if you see a movie in which an aircraft nearly crashed but the pilot managed to save everyone, will you be more inclined to fly on the airline?
Similarly to North American phone numbers in 555, IP addresses in 169.254, as well as 172.16 through 172.31, 192.0.0 and 192.0.2 and 2001:db8 (IPv6) are reserved for documentation and guaranteed not to be attributed. It would be interesting to know whether films do "the right thing" and use one of these when they need an IP address to appear on a screen.
Something I never thought I would've wanted to know but now know it anyway, I'll be on the lookout for Oceanic airlines from now on if anything even mentions a plane.
You assume that LOST is fiction, and not an inspired narrative about the very real island and people that exist in a timeline not that different than ours. . . It isn't marketing, it's the universe.
Someone should startup a real Oceanic Airlines and charge absolute rock bottom prices. If a crash occurs, they can say to the victims/families "Thoughts and prayers, but they CHOSE Oceanic Airlines."
Couldn’t you just take any footage of any plan flying and CGI it beyond recognition of the original airline....That way you could create any airline brand you wanted and still protect the real airline companies name.
Oceanic airlines...
We crash at least 2 times a week...
Good one mate lol
Oceanic airlines
Perfect Safety Record
(All legal documentation saying crashes every 2 weeks has been destroyed.)
How is oceanic airlines not shut down yet
If oceanic airlines was real it would not fly anymore
Imagine Ocienanic Airlines was a real airline.
Still rather fly with them than United Airlines
Well, Guess who is next to their main hub??? me.
I grew up with a home phone number starting with 555. So when I saw this in movies, I assumed it was normal.

Time Pirate i thought all americans had number startin with 555
oceanic air - the most unfortunate airline company in the fictional universe. you think after a couple aircrashes, people would stop buying tickets but nah
Finn Murtons fanboys, nuff said
Finn Murtons because its cheap
to be fair, United is still around
besucse they give out top notch serves, also maylisa airlines is still strong with 2 in the past few years
Finn Murtons Reminds me of the fireflash (If you don’t get that reference you have no childhood)
I wonder if Oceanic ever has a normal flight. If they don't, I can't imagine what their safety rating is..
Blasty BBS 3/10... for not breaking apart on take off
In _Lost,_ Oceanic appears to be pretty much the only airline other than the fictional Ajira Air. There is a scene where Jack purchased plane tickets for his honeymoon, and he shows his wife the Oceanic tickets.
Holy shit, finally I'm not seeing one of your videos 2 years late.
+ilpazzo12 awesome

I just realized weird that is.
Boring, yet likely. Still a lot of work though.
if you ever find yourself looking out at your plane and it is oceanic walk the other way buddy
Now I almost want to actually open an airline called Oceanic Airlines and get a kickstart off all the publicity.
I had a great idea for an airline and now I know what to call it! Wait, dammit, it's COVID and airlines are all going to hell in a hand basket.
Now, every time I draw a scene of an airplane I’m careful to hint that the airplane belongs to oceanic
Your work is top notch, you deserve more views :)
+Skander Helali thanks!
It really is YOU GUY ARE THE MOST MORE BETTEREST BESTER!!!! (Grammar much)
Skander Helali I love moth (the creator of minecraf)

+EnigmaHarper haha a great name
True fact: Volée Flight 180 was based on the actualt crash of TWA Flight 800
The fictional Nickelodeon brand Pear: PearBook Air, PearPhone, PearPad.
This channel is so much underrated
I read this comment in a heavy foreign accent.
Whenever the Mythbusters show did an airline related experiment, they used the name Mythbustair. And for boat related tests they named the boat Mythtanic (with a Roman numeral).

OMG! I just started rewatching lost! The irony
** Coincidence and irony not mutually exclusive. Quite the opposite.
I don't think you know what irony means... And you probably aren't even going to look it up..

Really well done videos! I have subscribed and I'm looking forward to the next one
I'm very confused as to what is going on right now.
I got a Honeywell Aviation ad before this
If a plane crashes, I'm not as concerned about the airline as the plane model
Top notch is indeed the term and this was the best of yours I’ve seen yet.
Something I never thought I would've wanted to know but now know it anyway, I'll be on the lookout for Oceanic airlines from now on if anything even mentions a plane.
amazing content!! we cant wait till u blow up dude
Oceanic Airlines > United Airlines
I rather die in a plane crash than getting beaten off a plane and the airline taking my money.
THIS TYPE OF WORK IS ENTERTAINING, INFORMATIVE, AND DESERVES MORE EXPOSURE.
START BANGING ON ADVERTISERS DOORS!!!
Hank Schrader flying for Oceanic Airlines, it's all coming together now!
Please do a video about professional sports leagues (Baseball, Football, etc) during World War 2.
man oceanic airlines probably doesn't understand how they still haven't gone bankrupt.
in the movie based on the Stephen King novel "The Langoliers," the airline was American Pride.
It would be funny to have the plane stewards playing a movie with a plane crash in it whilst the passengers have to watch
I am never taking Oceanic
I thought he had 1mil subs... HE DESERVES MORE VIEWS AND SUBSCRIBERS!!! Your quality is top notch m8
wouldn't say rough as its mostly insensitive although true...sadly it's true
Lifeboat airlines: Am I a joke to you?
You assume that LOST is fiction, and not an inspired narrative about the very real island and people that exist in a timeline not that different than ours. . . It isn't marketing, it's the universe.
does this mean all of these shows/games/comics take place in the same universe
Pan Oceanic 1701 - no doubt built at the Utopia Planitia shipyards. 8)

What is the song in the compilation
Great research!
Not sure if I saw any clips from Die Hard.......
Oceanic must be quite the popular and successful airline in whatever strange continuity all these films and TV series exist in. XD
That's really awesome!
Someone should startup a real Oceanic Airlines and charge absolute rock bottom prices. If a crash occurs, they can say to the victims/families "Thoughts and prayers, but they CHOSE Oceanic Airlines."
What! Not back to the future!
Holy sheeeet I didn't know oceanic was in dead island
Oh shit, Chuck and White Collar had Oceanic in them? :P
Hold on. Transformers cybertron? That's awesome!
Wait the X-Files episode had 1701 in it, that’s a double reference.
I just realized that you don't have as many subs, views out comments as I expected, you need more :(
Geez, everyone's realizing this at the same time
how about the time the American army tried to stop a war by getting the enemy super high
I think there is a conspiracy as all Oceanic flights seem to crash. Must be an insurance job.
Couldn’t you just take any footage of any plan flying and CGI it beyond recognition of the original airline....That way you could create any airline brand you wanted and still protect the real airline companies name.
For a minute I thought it was a real airline because I don't watch movies much.
