  • I created a piece of art that has moving eyes! I build these 3D printed animatronic cat eyes and put them behind a poster on my wall. I used MidJourney to generate this cool poster that looks like my cat Nimbus! Doing this project I learned more about animatronics, I2C servo control, and how bad I am at woodworking. I hope you enjoy!
    NOTE: I did not come up with this project the original creator, Will Cogley, posted it here • How to Build a Simple ...

    For the holes, run your drill backwards for the first few seconds not pushing at all. Then go forward. You can also put blue tape down and cut through the blue tape and you'll get less tear out.

    I happened to make the same Cogley eyemech a few weeks ago using the same joystick, button, potentiometer and other components from the same Elegoo kit! I also had issues making sense of the wiring diagram, and while my eyes move side to side and up and down, the eyelids are awry. (Just one shot of the actual breadboard connections would have cleared things up immensely.) Onward to face-tracking!

    • @LukasDeem
      @LukasDeem  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I ended up just figuring out the wiring bit by bit. Will makes some really good content and I'm pretty sure in his newer videos He's more detailed about the wiring diagrams.

    Love it! IMHO if you want the eyes to blend more into the painting instead of making them look hyper-realistic like Will Cogley’s, I’d actually lean into the painterly look of your artwork and give them some color texture/variation esp in the solid yellow areas.

    Great work, a cheap ultra sonic sensor could be installed discreatly for tracking. Lots of examples on github for the code. I made a simialr teminator head with this approach. Hey nice work. Why didn't you use the "+5V" pin on the headers next to the two GND pins to power the servo board? It will give you the +5 rail that came in via the USB. The "typical" FND340P fet that is inline between the USB +5v and the rest of the 5v inside the Uno can cope with ~2A continuous which should have been plenty in this case.

    • @LukasDeem
      @LukasDeem  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah! I assumed it wouldn't be able to handle it. Thanks for the heads up! 😃

  • @MeisterAlucard
    @MeisterAlucard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The way I would tackle the power management is: Find a 9-12V powerpack, get a DC barrel plug for the Arduino (Google: Arduino jack), power the Arduino directly over the powerpack (instead of USB) and use a 9-12V to 5V voltage regulator for the servo driver, as it clearly says 6V Max for V+ on the backside of the PCB. I guess 5V 1A should be fine as an output for the voltage regulator, since it already able to run with a small 9V battery.

    • @LukasDeem
      @LukasDeem  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Got it. When you say power pack though, is that a battery power pack or a wall plug?

    • @MeisterAlucard
      @MeisterAlucard 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LukasDeem A battery power pack. Of course there are AC/DC switching power supplies as well, but since you are a beginner I wouldn't recommend it to you (for safety reasons).
      Edit: For testing of new circuits you could buy a laboratory power supply. Many have 2 separate DC channels.
