- Today in Uboat I continue to be the bane of the Royal Navy by sinking their carriers, shooting down their planes, and blowing up everything they hold precious to them.

How many likes to pre-heat torpedoes?
It's possible to change the course of history or you are bound to lose the war regardless how many ship you sink ?
@@highgrounder5238 For real!
@@potato88872 You always lose the war, at the end of the day you are just 1 sub.
Ryan Gosling, the Royal Navy's worst enemy and Kriegmarine's backbone
So true
He's literally me
Yeah, after that many patrols (and kills on warships alone) I believe the skipper would be 'retired' to use as a propaganda and morale booster, rather than be risked
@@Iymarra Not really, as witnessed by their air and tank aces, while they were used as propaganda, they still engaged in combat, either until they died, got too wounded or the war ended, so the same would happen to the skipper. And even if he got a break, he would surely be called in again after the war effort has gone to shit for the Germans.
Nice
“Pirates of the Mediterranean” has a nice ring to it

*The US navy would like to know your location*
Pirates of the old world ahh game
“At world war’s end”
Ah yes the barbary pirates after the fall of the Spanish armada
13:05 Firing all tubes against literally any target is actually straight out of the Kriegsmarine's manual for Uboat skippers. It's what you were expected to do.
no wonder they lost the war, so wasteful smh
tbh U-Boats had like 30% survival rate at total with 780 out of 1100 sinking, they only went on like 4 patrols before being lost. Kinda make sense for them to dump everything on contact 😭😭Its like pilots where either you are a legendary ace or a no one.
@@wolficik0000 ** either a legendary ace or a dead
to be fair, it would be easier to replace all those torpedoes rather than a fully loaded cargo ship..right?

"gaslit by the Abwehr" yeah... pretty accurate description of their performance
Literally, their commander was a British double agent.
I mean they never found out Juan pujol was a double agent and he got an iron cross for his info
German intelligence was quite literally a British asset. Their top commander was a double agent and their entire network in England was an illusion created by a Spanish defector blowing smoke up their behind.
@@bobsemple6537To add on to that, every single German spy sent to Britain was a double agent. It got so bad to the point where the British started asking several of said agents to retire in Britain so that the Germans didn’t get suspicious about not having a single spy caught in the UK.
That swiss captain was genius. He lied so well he convinced a german that he was a captain of a ship of a landlocked country o7🥶

@@KlongKlongKlong It's literally just bread in a can. It lasts longer then bread that's not in a can. Which isn't a problem normally but during ww2 it was. Especially for places that weren't likely to get resupplied quickly.
@@wabbitking I've heard that Germany still issues MREs with canned bread.
At 15:00...thats a convoy trap. When Abwehr tells you the Brits are on to you, it's not uncommon to get a juicy report of a well escorted and alert convoy.
Damn so Captain Gosling really just went into a trap, beat them up and successfully got away. He really is built different. (I mean there was the second u-boat that took the brunt of the trap, but another w for gosling)
Peak Abwehr moment: (they have no idea half of them are british double agents)
97 year old U-boat still destroys corvettes the old fashioned way
Fortunately for the corvettes, they have evolved to adopt wheels and a smaller size, only carrying a crew of two at most. Not only are they land-based and small, they are also quite fast and cheap relative to its older water-based brethren.
Safe from any u-boat attack. Forever.
imagine being on a PT boat near canada, expecting nothing, then a German submarine sinks the corvete and portsides your ship.
@ 9:15 It's showing high angle of impact because you're firing a surface torpedo, try setting the depth to 3-5 meters for larger ships and you'll see much better results as they'll generally impact at a flatter angle. I was getting frustrated with this too trying to do manual solutions until someone pointed it out to me.
1:35 THE TORPEDO KNOWS WHERE IT IS AT ALL TIMES, IT KNOWS THIS BECAUSE IT KNOWS WHERE IT ISNT
I have ptsd from that game. Every time that i hear something that closely resembles the allied ships sonar i get flashbacks at me getting obliterated by depth charges while i hear the pings
ASDIC: Prepare for trouble.
Hedgehog: and make it double.
17:40 I believe there was a whole saying about sleeping under the covers on tankers and above the covers on merchant ships based on the fact that if a tanker got torpedoed you were probably not making it out of the bunkroom much less to the lifeboats before the whole thing blew up.
It's actually a tale about the difference between hauling munitions vs iron ore.
If you were laden with iron you slept in your boots with the door open cause you sunk in minutes from the weight. If you were hauling munitions you slept in your small clothes door closed cause you wouldn't wake up before meeting st. Peter.
@@simonnachreiner8380 Yeah...ammo ships do be like that. And also the cause for strongest non-nuclear explosion (with a ship much smaller then liberties mind you).
1:30 The issue with the G7eA torpedo is that its a homing torpedo. Meaning no matterr what ship you launch it at it will always home in on the ship thats more near to you. Its always surpising seeing it turn away as soon as you launch it for the first time. It has a 80% chance to hit a merchant ship, but it can also home in on your propellers and hit your U-boat-it has happened. So when you launch it, stop your engines.
Seeing a Swiss ship actually made me say "what" out loud without even thinking
They were real as well lol
To be fair to the dissident crewmen, choosing to 1v6 an entire bomber squadron with a U-Boat rather than simply waiting them out or sneaking away is pretty tactically unsound, even if it worked.
"Escort Carrier" Victorious, of the Illustrious class of " Escort Carriers ". Seems legit, not like these were full-sized armored fleet carriers or anything
Or when they displayed HMS Royal Oak as a Nelson class battleship ether in Ep 1 or ep 2 even though the ship was a revenge class battleship that was commissioned in mid 1916, you know during ww1 not during the fucking interwar period
@thebestteammate6528 oh yeah I forgot about that one. But at least I can forgive the devs just not having the time to make accurate models for every ship class ever built and in service at the time. But this is a piece of text, that one is so easy to replace and fix
I love how you keep up your snorkel as a big "I am here! " sign. Love the self-sabotaging
Sometimes the captain doesn't give the correct data to the machine, you can try having him "refresh" said data by pressing some buttons, I don't exactly remember what they were called, they are next to the data like "distance", "angle" and "speed" in the little menu where you can estimate everything yourself.
The next time you have to make a really long trip, try alternating between the diesel and the electric engine.
Just dont get caught by the enemy when your batteries are empty.
that doesn't exactly make sense, as batteries are essentially charged up by diesels, which makes your plan a net loss due to non-100% efficiency
@@КанистраКеросинаafter using the electrical engine, the diesel engine work will charge the batteries. Yes, fuel consumption will be increased if you are going without a stop. But, if you stop in the middle of the ocean/sea at night and slowly charge the batteries, you will eventually reduce the fuel consumption.
Imagine being on a PT boat responding to a raid by uboat. You think this is going to be an easy hunting mission seeing as you're supporting a warship. Suddenly the warship catches a torpedo and is now fighting for its life as the uboat surfaces and angles it's deckguns right at your lightly torpedo tubes.
Yeah no I'd start swimming, if a single AA round so much as touches the warhead on the PT torpedos there wouldn't be enough left of the entire crew combined to bury in a soup can.
And the boat will sink too after few hits, cause its literally plywood. 20mm is going trough the entire thing.
Then you'd have to imagine my campaign. A Type IIA sinking a *_destroyer_* laced with several corvettes would literally bring anybody to fear. (Then again.. I did save scum.. But alas, the AI cheat anyways.)
Oh. Did I mention that I did that on the surface? You'd be surprised how well AP ammunition is.
They always asked how Uboat doing but they never asked how MYboat doing
0:22, 2:40 As a German, I absolutely love it, when allies play as the Germans and actually get into character and start to sneer and fool with the enemies in the exact same way, we do.
Because once you do, you start to realize why we are, the way we are. It really puts a different perspective on things, doesn't it? And we can all tell, they're loving it begrudgingly.
Being a Uboat in 1943? What could go wrong
Suuuurely uboats will stay relevant in the war in the Atlantic
Love how there is basically no lead needed when shooting at aircraft, and how inaccurate they are. Makes being surfaced a little bit less scary.
Hey what should I d- Patrol…. Ok I finished that what now- PATROL
3:11 you would be surprised, back then a heavy few layers of wool and canvas was the normal gear to 0f, seal hunters up in north america wore less
4:18 Dekabrist is an early soviet sub that has gone missing in 1940 in Barents sea, and was discovered in 2018.
17:54 lifeboat gotta eat so it doesn't become a deadboat 😏
Thank you for your service Käpt'n Gösling
Got to love a new uboat video
I dont know how much of the content you already have pre-recorded, but a small tipp from me. if you want to save/preserve some fuel on longer missions (like the american coast) you can switch between Electric and Diesel motors while Traveling on the surface. (Switch to electric until battery runs low, then back to diesel till battery is charged up again and so forth) hope this knowledge will be useful for you
5:00 feeling gaslit by the abwehr hah? i wonder why that might beeee
"Using Monkey language" 4:10
Regarding fuel usage. You can save a crazy amount of fuel if you alternate between your engines.
If you need constant speed, go for 5/5 on electric and 3/5 on diesel when the electric is depleated.
If you need more fuel, go for electric and stationary recharge.
If you chase, well, go full diesel.
This will save between 3x to 5x of your fuel. Maybe even more.
I managed to do around 3 patrols with one full diesel tank this way. And still had a small amount at the end.
Captain Gosling, bane of the Royal Navy and Air Force
it whould seem that i have an addiction to these Uboat videos
16:27 The enemy has been reinforced with a dreadnought
Remember kids, being a pirate is legal so long as you serve an autototalitarian dictacture or your country
I'm typing this through the stroke you gave me with your spelling but the allies engaged in plenty of raiding of axis merchant shipping as well. The actual term you're looking for is "privateering."
To quote Tropico "it's catagorically not piracy if it's sanctioned by the state."
Thank you for finally heating my torpedo
Did you know you can sometimes capture the pilots of shot down planes for reputation points?
Also, I just finished my first campaign and my favorite thing to do was sneak into ports and torpedo ships at anchor, you should try it, it’s funny.
Cap Gosling has huge balls. Suprised the sub can dive with them
Amazing vid! Would love to see more Uboat vids!
the second he sees a merchant ship he's going wild
Hell yeah lets keep this series going I love this
Please keep making this series, your the only entertaining person I found that plays this game
5:37. Sweden represent! I'm actually Swedish, born and raised! Nice to see my country being represented in a video game, that doesn't happen all too often!
I love the b1 part of the video man haha
The “Atlantic is easy” is going to be a lot of karma, when the fletcher class actually starts doing their job
I don't know why, but I love this series of videos, thanks guy, keep up the great content!
Soooo ehm who is gonna tell him that it was not a escort carrier he sank in the begining?
What was it then?
@Okuu__Gaming_1
HMS victorious was a fully equipped aircraft carrier that took part in the sinking of KMS Bismark. It's one of the most famous ships of the war right up there with USS Enterprise and HMS Hood (sunk by KMS Bismarck)
@simonnachreiner8380 ah. If only he had done that a few years earlier lol
Knight’s Cross for Ryan Gosling
Damn these crewmates have higher expectations than Asian parents
The only thing that lets this game down is the lack of ship variety.
Yeah hopefully when they release a dlc, they add a lot more ships
@@guyfromcollege There's only like one dude from the team still working on it. So probably not.
@2:30 literally seconds before you said that I said to myself "hmm, must've hit the fuel and ammo." lolol
When you mentioned 1942 and the Americans in a game about submarines, i thought this would be in the Pacific Theater in Manila or smthn. That should totally be a DLC.
9:02 Angle on Bow is registered as -1 degrees which is obviously false. 0 degrees means the target ship is heading directly away (that's why the computer told you to fire directly at the ship, the target ship might as well be stationary at that angle) while you were approaching from starboard quarter. Fire the guy who entered the data lol.
Also ideally you should be firing at 90 degrees with magnetic turned on half a meter below keel for maximum damage.
Another quality video of the legendary Uboat Captain, Ryan Gosling. Looking forward to the next part of his story.
Since you've never seen an AI uboat in action: be careful. One of the fuckers torpedoed me because it launched all its torpedoes at a ship just before I sank it with my deck gun and the ship came to a halt, causing all their torpedoes to miss their intended target and go straight into my sub.
After 6 months surviving service on a botat, you earn your first medal. Just for survival :)
My grandfather did.
Bro became a Barbary pirate
Can't mirco the side of a u-boat 😔
tf you mean, look at this guy, he absolutely can
8:40 there actually might be reason for this as it might have been safer to drop them off where no one will be actively looking for possible spies than a heavily guarded port
I feel like there were plenty of midpoints between the heavily guarded port and the farthest most remote part of island
@ they ain’t taking no risks and also there like at least 3 on the east coast
Bro went from not warming his torpedoes to sinking a carrier.
Thanks for tha video! I actually owned UBOAT since long ago, but was always wrong in my calculations, so thanks to you i am now downloading it again

Your UBoat videos are awesome. The game seems so complicated though
Arthur coughing in the control room got me 💀
Another banger as always
I cant wait for him to realise that his conningh tower will explode when an aircraft is flying at him on the surface, because they also have big cannons and not only depht charges to attack uboats
I just started rewatching your series last night this is awesome!!!!

I absolutly love the videos on U boat please keep going
I've loved this series. Keep it up mr. college.
Honestly these videos are elite.
Did he warm the torpedoes this time?
I don't know if you will see this but you can increase your boat's range a crazy amount if you cycle between electric and diesel power
He is just a chill guy
Ah yes, Ryan Gosling, the germanliest name in the history of Germany
the Octopus of Collage strikes again
The Uboat content pleases me greatly
You’re not the only one having issues with the torpedo calculations. I’ve been having trouble with the solution computer giving completely wrong calculations at times too, ever since the last update.
Such gigachad captain gameplay.
Homing torpedoes feel like cheating, I'm killing every destroyer trying to hunt me with a cheeky aft launch 100% of the time.
Feels braindead.
For me it's kinda funny. It feels good to flip the script on the destroyers sometimes
