    Now, we go back into the underground.
    This was taken during the height of the rush hour, so it was very, very busy down here!
    What you'll see here are several videos of Sound Transit's LINK Light Rail along with several King County Metro and Sound Transit buses on the 41, 71X, 73X, 74, 101, 106, 150, 255 making their way in and out of the University Street Station.
    Buses seen here are as follows.
    2004 New Flyer DE60LF Hybrid: Caterpillar C-9 ACERT & GM-Allison EP50 Hybrid System
    2008 New Flyer DE60LF Hybrid: Cummins ISL & GM-Allison EP50 Hybrid System

    As a native new yorker I am ashamed of how far we are behind in mass transit now.

    To think if a number of the cities in the Northeast were to have thought this, bus travel will be so much easier through congested downtown areas.

      +MJofLakeland1 - I kinda agree. The only thing about this transit tunnel is that once you're stuck, you're stuck. You gotta wait for the train or a number of buses to clear so you can proceed.

      As early as around 2019, all of the buses will be kicked out of the transit tunnel. There will be less buses in the tunnel when university link line opens next month. You will see a lot of 3 car trains instead of 2.

      @MJofLakelandX 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wawonas The amount of express buses running through the tunnel today probably gonna be the same come 2019 b'cuz w/ extension of the Link comes more passenger loads - even w/ 3 cars - so the ridership today will be the same scenario in 2019. Plus, there are way too many runs aiming towards the suburbs to just pull lines apart,

      +MJofLakeland1 Probably and we will see. Some of the bus routes that go to university district will be replaced with link light rail as well.

    wow WTF? Buses sharing with trams? What a weird but creative idea

      Aventanario it’s also used in the city of San Francisco where buses sometimes serve as replacements for some streetcar sets and run on the tracks

    This tunnel is going to become light rail only in 2019. A planned second downtown tunnel will accommodate buses in the future but for the interim buses will have to run on the streets.

    To think ...of all the traffic Portland could have alleviated with these transit tunnels. but no...we get an expensive bridge for bicycles, walkers, and the orange line max that STILL causes more traffic in downtown Portland. -_- I think I'm going to head up north and live there.

    • @ShaneAkACaitSith810
      @ShaneAkACaitSith810  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +finkledo - Does Portland get slammed with traffic? I've only been there on weekends.

    • @finkledo
      @finkledo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +ShaneAkACaitSith810 Yes, well.. it does more now since the new Orange Line opened, it shares a downtown loop route with the yellow line. If the max gets stuck, traffic is screwed for about 1 to 3 hours. This is a daily occurrence.

    So they got both buses & trains running on there? How the hell does that work? I assume the trains have drivers then and aren't animated.

    • @ShaneAkACaitSith810
      @ShaneAkACaitSith810  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There's a signal system down there that allows for proper spacing between buses and trains. The light rail trains are not automated.

      @williamputaansuu3465 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JavozREKZ / REKZboss they’re not really trams. There are only 4 stops that it shares with busses, and even then the busses are monitored so as to not disrupt light rail traffic

    This is possibly the stupidest idea... It like okay were gonna build a tunnel for buses in traffic congestion, with lrt in future. Then light rapid Transit comes along and get delayed because a passenger 4 buses ahead can't find thier fare while lining up for bus. Surely the tunnel could be better used without buses in it. Instead have more trains/h and have the buses connect to rail at Transit. Would probably increase the pax/h by a lot!

    • @norml.hugh-mann
      @norml.hugh-mann 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its worked great for a long time and as of 3/2019 extra light rail trips will eliminate all bus traffic within, but it worked just fine with the schedule the way it was.

      @@norml.hugh-mann Making it a train only tunnel is a good move since there will certainly be many more trains using the tunnel once the East Link is completed.
