These 'on the spur of the moment' ride outs are often the most enjoyable. When you were 21, Weston, potholes were few and far between unlike nowadays. A Dutch friend of mine said to me a couple of years ago: 'You Brits used to drive on the left of the road. Now you drive on what's left of the road'.
I love the fact that putting the thermal liners back in becomes an event. I will literally try to endure as much cold as I can until I decide, yep its time. I think if I do it too soon other bikers will definitely know and ill get shunned or something lol.
What a nice ride around the town. Canada Combe. Mr Harry Brownhorse and I ride up or down the combe most days and I have NEVER come across a motor vehicle of any sort being driven / ridden as sensibly and considerately as the way you were riding... good stuff. Elborough; at the time you were getting your knee down, that housing estate was not there. That site used to belong to BAJ Vickers. RAF Locking; my tutor at Weston college was a chap called Dave Doldrey, he was ex RAF from Locking. Also the chap who got me though my amateur radio exams, Brian Harris was stationed there before becoming a civilian instructor. Don't forget that Banwell garden centre do a fantastic breakfast... worth a visit.
There was a section of the run accross Canada combe that didn't come out, there were 2 youngsters on ponies riding up the track, I couldn't control a push bike when I was their age but they had these horse well in check. Couldn't have been more than 10 or 12. I always take my time because I know its such a nature sanctuary up there, and I prefer animals to people 🤣
@@wsmv I have a fair idea who the two youngsters are, they ride from Parson's Farm at the Weston end of Hutton. There is an old quote that says "there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man", I think that same can be said for other animals too.
That lane from 10:00 was some priddy 😍 I love spontaneous bimbles 🙂 Keep it upright, or at least below 57 degrees or so 😉 Enjoyed that, Weston 👌🏼 Ps That last race was a thriller 😲
Thanks SB, I do love a nothing ride that becomes something. Yep it was a great race, feel lost now that all the motorsport has finished for the winter though 😔
What a lovely little ride out and I'm so glad that the road back was closed, otherwise we wouldn't have got to see that lovely naggery lane with the views down over WSM. I hope yourself and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year 👍🎉
Was gorgeous in the little valley, I can imagine in the summer it would be even prettier. Ace you can watch the bike racing with your daughter 🙂 it is about the only TV I miss since getting shot of TV from my life. Even on track I struggle to get my knee down these days, not sure what changed... but I imagine it is my own self mortality protection system activating! 😀
I genuinely think it is mate, the bikes and tyres we use these days are so much more developed it should be a doddle, but we have bills and commitments that must come before adrenaline 😢
@@wsmv I am def a lot slower on track than I was. On the road I am a lot slower now than I used to be, and more polite and less of a hooligan.... but that is strapping a camera to my face that caused that change I think... coz I def stiff have the odd funny 5 minutes when the cameras are not rolling! 😀
another great video, can't beleive you rode all the way to Stones Cafe and back in a day LOL their breakfast menu looks great, take care keep up the good work.
Great to see Canada Combe -- was there two weeks ago. Also Locking, where I bought my Fiat Panda for £500 and it's still going strong :-) Back in Gower, Wales, now for the foreseeable future. Looking forward to getting my TRK 500 X in new year. Have a good Christmas and keep posting these great vids :-) 👍👌
Thanks Gary, you're going to love the 502x, it's a brilliant piece of kit. I'll be over the gower in a couple of weeks but just a flying visit in the car yo visit family 🏴
Yes, I'm looking forward to getting the 502x and having a few trips over to west Somerset in the new year. I'll not be able to pass up a stop at my favourite chippie -- Winston's Fish Bar on the front at Weston :-) That said I've not tried the cafe you stopped at in this video -- sounds good. Have a safe trip to Gower. Ps. I was over in Mumbles and Langland earlier -- beautiful sunset and cloud formations. The beach was deserted, too.
@garyrauter8240 I know you will love the TRK, especially the X version, the spoke wheels look stunning and and the front forks are proper beefy. Message me on insta when you plan to come over, be great to meet you and have a look at the 502x in the flesh 👍
A lovely couple of bikes with you here Phil, a F650GS & an F750GS is my eyes serve me right! 👍😎 Now I'm wondering have you ever riden any sort of BMW GS model? 🤔 As many folk are aware my G310GS is built in India, but I only found out recently that some of their mid sized engines are Chinese built! 🤐😉👍 Heard you mention the yellow RE Meteor on Steve's last livestream & it's a fine choice for your daughter! 👍😎
I've never ridden a GS but I know if I do I will be sold on them, the long way series is probably one of the best bits of adventure TV there is and no denying those bikes were given a proper test. Yeah I think she will love the meteor when she gets it, such good bikes at a brilliant price. The engines that come out of chines factories are in so many bikes now and people don't think about because they are so reliable. I remember a top gear episode about 15 years ago when they said in the near future everyone will be driving Chinese cars, not far away I don't think Have a top Christmas and Hogmanay buddy, I'll be having haggis and tatties here (but I don't like Neeps) 🤣
I agree, any ride on a motorcycle, even if it's a bit damp (or France damp) is better than a drive in a car. How much preparation was required for traversing Weston Super Mare? I see KTM were unwilling to sponsor due to the reputation risk... Very short sighted by them again 😂
great ride out mate. I like being upright, I have the body of a nonagenarian 🤣 - Must catch up in Weston one day. Have you ever seen the interesting chap in Weston with the 'rat bike' ?
@@wsmv I don't think so, I should have got him on camera when we met him at the bike parking in WSM. Definitely an odd character, his bike was full of donor parts and cable ties, claimed it would o 160mph 😆
Well that aired out your motorcycle lungs and stretched out your motorcycle muscles. Always a good thing. And it's true you can never have too many gud bois and gurls in the world. I have one gud gurl and one very naughty gurl who is at last trying very hard to be a gud gurl.😊
