Personally, I've always enjoyed The Library... Chief taking The Index pretty much opens up the story of the next Halo games as it plays a major role in the story of Halo 2 and 3. If The Library was never made or introduced, Halo's storyline could have been very different, but I'm happy that all of the Bungie games turned out the way they did.
I think the idea works only in part, but I get what Bungie was going for. You are in a giant building facing off against an enemy called 'the flood'...I am one of the people who likes the level, but I also understand why many may dislike it. It's a case of "execution vs concept", and I understand both sides of the argument.

I joined Halo in 2017, but this was the first Halo game I played, and on the original Xbox funnily enough. Maybe not as nostalgic for me as for those who have played for 20 years, but I still feel very fond of the game. Especially getting the original experience on the original console. I love Halo so much.

Something that CE executed so well from the rest of the games was the mess you made after a firefight. The carnage was so well contrasted. And boy was it carnage. Bright blue grunt blood, elite blood, human blood, bullet holes, shell casings littered on the floor. (all with their distinct caliber. Shotgun, rifle, pistol casings) human blood, grenade craters. It was quite a distinct canvas you were able to paint every time. Now with the Gib mods on PC, That canvas got even more unique. So much love went into making this game. Being a kid watching marines screaming in pain as they were slinging lead down range, watching shell casings bounce off of walls into the floor. It was movie magic.
Really fantastic video man, deserves a lot more attention. I like what you said about The Library, I've always thought that although it's flawed, it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. Hope your channel grows a lot from this!

Of which, the Flood being released was on September 20 and the ring was completed engulfed by them by the 21st. The Flood were really fast in taking over the ring, which completely makes sense from a lore standpoint.
Throughout highschool, we had a cracked USB bootable copy of HALO 1 floating around the school- everyone had a copy. There were multiple places on the networked storage you could download it if you knew where to look. I probably spent a thousand hours or more while I was supposed to be working on my classes playing halo deathmatch- and halo was the reason I had a 1.3 GPA my freshman year of highschool. Weirdly enough, I've never played the campaign- the usb bootable copy had the campaign stripped out to make the game easier to download and pass around. Maybe I'll give it a shot now lol
I feel like this is a universal experience because the exact same thing happened at my school but instead some kid was able to get it saved onto a communal file and the IT guys pretended they couldn't delete it so all the kids had a copy on their school account. The campaign is really fun so you definitely should give it a crack when you can

Second time watching this, but, I always find the "exaggerated yells" (as you put it) that the Elites make when they die funny. Also, I never noticed T&R being a juxtaposition to POA As I'm re-watching, it's occurred to me how well the atmosphere of 343GS was done. As a side note, I grew up with Halo starting mainly with Halo 2 but never got to beat Halo CE as our disc was scratched, so when I got CEA in 2010 for the 360, it was a whole new experience for me with 343GS. I remember having to look up a guide the first time because I got lost and it scared me to death when I found out the elevator was destroyed 😂
Minor correction; Sergeant Major Johnson also escapes Halo. I believe in lore he does this by catching up to Master Chief at the very last second or was already in the ship, most likely hiding after his exhausting fight through both the Flood infested Forerunner outpost and the Pillar if Autumn.

While thats technically true in subsequent games, at release ODST and Johnson weren't characters and the game made no indication that anyone else survived. They changed a few things when they released Halo 2, like making Johnson an actual character and introducing the ODST. I wanted to talk about the game as a sole release without taking the sequels and supplementary content into consideration as I didn't want to bring up things that weren't established when they released the game and also because I would be covering that sort of thing in the sequels as I talk about them :p
should note that the repetition is totally a result of dev time stuff but it actually lends itself to the flood the flood infection forms has complete access to the hosts memories so if YOU get turned around and confused going through rooms that look the same so would the flood

you're not wrong about the warthog being hard to drive by design. Its different from any other hog in the game, its mass was reduced to slightly in the game files to allow it to move fast enough to climb several of the ramps in the warthog run that the games normal hog couldnt make it up. this results in its handling being somewhat slippery, and the vehicle being about 10% faster than the other warthogs
With the Flood I quickly realized that the threat of the little ones were not damage, but shield disruption. So I stopped shooting them, and ran around smacking them with the shotgun. Similarly, with the exception of the large exploding blob ones, I realized they were considerably easier to deal with if you're aggressive. Get. close, shotgun blast them, move on. They are distinct from the covenants, but I find them to be a chore to fight against in the later levels.
Thats definitely fair, they can get repetitive to fight and compared to the covenant their variety is lacking. I didn't find myself getting annoyed with how they fight personally, though I am a fan of their design so I could see that impeding my opinion. Thank you for watching! I really appreciate it :)
@@Daiazal It isn't just the variety. When I shoot at a grunt, it panics, I can get even elites and hunters to retreat with decisive actions. Just yesterday I got attacked by three jump jet elites indoors, shot one out of the proverbial sky with a shotgun. The others hid in response. The flood just sort of wobble and jump at you, constantly. And they all are kind of biege. Honestly, adding human enemies would help the gameplay profoundly. That would mean confronting the fact that the UNSC are bad guys however.
@@Duchess_Van_Hoof I can understand where you're coming from, but you have to factor in how the flood plays tie into the story telling. The flood are essentially brainless zombies at this point, Keyes is only a Proto Gravemind so they don't have an intelligent conscious behind them as of yet, it wouldn't make much sense for them to play as strategically as the covenant, nor as distinctly. They're working on instinct, and only have the thought of assimilating everything they see into the horde, because of that mindset it makes sense for them to just run at you, have simple attack patterns. The way they're designed is meant to be overbearing to the player, the fact they don't react to your attacks and still choose to approach you is done on purpose to exemplify that. I do think they could've done more to make them fit that role better, having more ways to engage the player would've helped. The covenant are much more interesting to fight, but if the flood acted in a similar way it would detract from their intent. I don't think I can agree on your idea with adding human enemies either, I wouldn't really know how they could tie that into the story of CE itself, and if you mean in Halo generally I just don't think they would be fun to play against. The only variety would come from the weapons they use, there would be no silhouette/design variety, no unique character traits you could add in their gameplay. Best case scenario is that they would play like Elites, and react as such, but that seems redundant as the Elites are better for that anyway.

It was so nice seeing such a video with the elaborate commentary. Your explanation of detail is very good. As many of the 90's generation will feel, this game is sacred. The AI and adaptable strategies one can adopt can make even a corridor seem different when played multiple times. I agree with the repetitiveness of some of the levels, however, being a solo campaign player, not having an internet connection back then, it really felt like being involved in the journey and the repetitiveness was not on the mind of the first timer. It was fun and scary. The anxiety building up as soon as the flood showed up was making me take panicky decisions. Especially when the shield would deplete after reacting with the generator, and you know the flood are coming. Also it felt like challenge dealing with the loneliness in missions where there were no Marines or Cortana. This game is more than just the missions and the story. Being a campaigner, it takes you through a psychological developmental journey. Overall, I ended up watching your whole video, because it felt like re-walking the path with another who's been through this.
Combat really did evolve. They should have kept the tag line for the entire game series, it'd be funny. Also, for the first video on your channel this is a knockout my guy. I'll be watching your career with great interest.

When you were doing the backstory segment and explaining the world and the like, I'm surprised you didn't include the backstory provided by the Halo manual, since that includes a lot of the backstory, since that was back in a time where the manual still actually contained useful stuff like that... and was actually proved and wasn't just ads for tech and companies no-one remembers or cares about.
I should've honestly looking back but it didn't cross my mind for whatever reason, I'll make sure to bring up the manual info for Halo 2 when I cover it :)

Great! Only room for improvement I'd say is to play the audio of the sound or music you're talking about, briefly pausing to let the viewer listen. Like, playing the grunt screams and elite screams after you talk about that. Besides that, awesome job! I love the drawn visuals for certain segments, and never get tired of people talking about my childhood favorite game trilogy.
Looking forward to you covering the other games! Hunters are my favorite members of the covenant, because they're the most unique. They have a very imposing design and aren't bipedal vertebrates like the rest, instead being colonies of worm creatures with some really cool lore surrounding them. While they were pushovers in the first game, they are really challenging yet fun to fight in the sequels.
Just a quick note about the Scorpion tank in Halo CE. No, you're not imagining, the main gun is just horrifically inaccurate. Hitting anything at long range is essentially a dice roll.
Really nice video. The pixel art breaks the video up and adds a bit of visual flair. Watching nothing but raw gameplay would probably get a bit boring. Watching you not use the co axle gun on the tank was killing me though. Definitely subbing for Halo 2.

43:40 Halo stores all of it's assets in the map files, so reusing map geo doesn't actually save disk space. Halo 2 solved this with the introduction of "shared" map files, but halo CE didn't have that.

Halo CE Anniversary was released in 2011. The Master Chief Collection was released in 2014 along with Halo 2 Anniversary. I know I'm having a nerd moment but I just have to correct stuff.

Fantastic video. As a long time fan of the series it thrills me to see small/new channels making stuff about halo. With the past few games having very mixed or flat out poor reviews halo has kind of lost its crown as king over the gaming world. Many people say it's dead and discredit it and it pains me to see. Without it I doubt xbox would be as big as it is, shooter games and first person games such as cod wouldn't be here without it because it revolutionized gaming, and it has some of the best writing in video game history

Honestly, adding human enemies would help the gameplay profoundly. That would mean confronting the fact that the UNSC are bad guys however.
@@Duchess_Van_Hoof I can understand where you're coming from, but you have to factor in how the flood plays tie into the story telling.
The flood are essentially brainless zombies at this point, Keyes is only a Proto Gravemind so they don't have an intelligent conscious behind them as of yet, it wouldn't make much sense for them to play as strategically as the covenant, nor as distinctly.
They're working on instinct, and only have the thought of assimilating everything they see into the horde, because of that mindset it makes sense for them to just run at you, have simple attack patterns.
The way they're designed is meant to be overbearing to the player, the fact they don't react to your attacks and still choose to approach you is done on purpose to exemplify that.
I do think they could've done more to make them fit that role better, having more ways to engage the player would've helped.
The covenant are much more interesting to fight, but if the flood acted in a similar way it would detract from their intent.
I don't think I can agree on your idea with adding human enemies either, I wouldn't really know how they could tie that into the story of CE itself, and if you mean in Halo generally I just don't think they would be fun to play against. The only variety would come from the weapons they use, there would be no silhouette/design variety, no unique character traits you could add in their gameplay.
Best case scenario is that they would play like Elites, and react as such, but that seems redundant as the Elites are better for that anyway.

It was so nice seeing such a video with the elaborate commentary. Your explanation of detail is very good. As many of the 90's generation will feel, this game is sacred. The AI and adaptable strategies one can adopt can make even a corridor seem different when played multiple times. I agree with the repetitiveness of some of the levels, however, being a solo campaign player, not having an internet connection back then, it really felt like being involved in the journey and the repetitiveness was not on the mind of the first timer. It was fun and scary. The anxiety building up as soon as the flood showed up was making me take panicky decisions. Especially when the shield would deplete after reacting with the generator, and you know the flood are coming. Also it felt like challenge dealing with the loneliness in missions where there were no Marines or Cortana. This game is more than just the missions and the story. Being a campaigner, it takes you through a psychological developmental journey. Overall, I ended up watching your whole video, because it felt like re-walking the path with another who's been through this.
Combat really did evolve. They should have kept the tag line for the entire game series, it'd be funny.
Also, for the first video on your channel this is a knockout my guy. I'll be watching your career with great interest.

@@Daiazal to be fair, it was fairly different, potentially the best fps on any home console at the time.
No matter who came up with the tag line, it was truly combat evolved for the console player.
Halo: CE is easily my favourite, followed by Infinite. They both got that "simple story happening in a bigger world" feel that I love.

Your analysis is quite good, and I am glad to find people who still love the old Halo games (even Reach is dear to me, but I can understand people not liking that title [even if I think there are more positive aspects than negative ones to it, it was some issues which are rather glaring, especially some of its sandbox]).

As much as I dislike Anniversary graphics, one detail I LOVE in Keyes, is that you can see marines' faces all over the mass of flesh when you find Keyes
That is true, they do a few pretty cool things, just a shame a good chunk of it could've been a lot better

When you were doing the backstory segment and explaining the world and the like, I'm surprised you didn't include the backstory provided by the Halo manual, since that includes a lot of the backstory, since that was back in a time where the manual still actually contained useful stuff like that... and was actually proved and wasn't just ads for tech and companies no-one remembers or cares about.
I should've honestly looking back but it didn't cross my mind for whatever reason, I'll make sure to bring up the manual info for Halo 2 when I cover it :)

Great! Only room for improvement I'd say is to play the audio of the sound or music you're talking about, briefly pausing to let the viewer listen. Like, playing the grunt screams and elite screams after you talk about that.
Besides that, awesome job! I love the drawn visuals for certain segments, and never get tired of people talking about my childhood favorite game trilogy.

Hunters are my favorite members of the covenant, because they're the most unique. They have a very imposing design and aren't bipedal vertebrates like the rest, instead being colonies of worm creatures with some really cool lore surrounding them. While they were pushovers in the first game, they are really challenging yet fun to fight in the sequels.

Halo Infinite is actualy doing better now then it was in launch. Still needs more modes and customization but it is doing better.
Just a quick note about the Scorpion tank in Halo CE. No, you're not imagining, the main gun is just horrifically inaccurate. Hitting anything at long range is essentially a dice roll.
Really nice video. The pixel art breaks the video up and adds a bit of visual flair. Watching nothing but raw gameplay would probably get a bit boring.
Watching you not use the co axle gun on the tank was killing me though.

43:40 Halo stores all of it's assets in the map files, so reusing map geo doesn't actually save disk space. Halo 2 solved this with the introduction of "shared" map files, but halo CE didn't have that.
anniversary was originally released in 2011 as a standalone game. 2014 was MCC's release date
That's interesting, I'm wondering now why they would've reused assets so much, I suppose time would be the main factor. And yea haha I'm aware about anniversary coming out in 2011 and MCC coming out in 2014, no idea how I made that mistake when writing the script nor how I didn't pick up on it :p

Fantastic video. As a long time fan of the series it thrills me to see small/new channels making stuff about halo. With the past few games having very mixed or flat out poor reviews halo has kind of lost its crown as king over the gaming world. Many people say it's dead and discredit it and it pains me to see. Without it I doubt xbox would be as big as it is, shooter games and first person games such as cod wouldn't be here without it because it revolutionized gaming, and it has some of the best writing in video game history
