That Fitters mate thing is a brilliant idea. Tall cupboards always end up miles away from where you want them cos you have to put the legs on/scribe them…and then it’s dead easy to break the legs if if wiggle them on the floor

17:25 where you were talking about spraying units. I used to fit for B&Q and they had a bright red kitchen. A filler above an oven unit had a raw end. I glued and shaped some edging tape to it, and painted it up with some Ford touch up paint that was a perfect match.
Pleasure to watch a tradesman at his best.
REALLY REALLY WELL AND NICELY DONE MATE.
I fitted kitchens for about 8 years after I took voluntary redundancy from a national company. I recognise the tips and tricks to get around problems. Always used a compass for scribing. You have some great tools there, really like the gadget for moving tall units, I snapped a few legs off trying to move them. Had to give it up in the end due to knackered back, elbow and wrists.

Great fit out dan ( I wouldn’t have expected anything less ) but a heads up for u for future reference what we tend to do with the sink units is take the back right out and then fit the carcass reduce the back panel down to the internal size of the and re-fit it after the plumber has done his bit it gives u a bit more flexibility in case u need to shuffle the units either way a bit plus it gives full access to the pipework for future reference in case there’s a leak or stuckfast stopcock or any adaptions we just fit it to two battens down either side and one across the bottom with four cups and screws

Great video Dan is such a professional, excellent joiner. Why do people insist on getting a kitchen fitted before painting though! Crazy! Always paint the kitchen first
Totally agree about Howden's we used to say if you can get a Howden's kitchen from the delivery van into the house without something snapping or falling apart you were lucky. Worse still were ikea units which didn't used to have a service void. Not sure if they're still the same now.
Ikea still has no service void. Some might say that gives you more space in the cupboards but it makes them a pain to fit
@@SkillBuilder must be nice to live in an ikea world where all rooms are perfectly square and kitchen units don't need to be scribed to walls. How they expect fitters to start from one of their corner units and work their way out along walls fitting base units to an unsquare room is beyond me. If you're room is unsquare after six or so units along you either have a 6 inch gap or units that need to live inside the wall. 🤔
So odd I hear some people have trouble with howdens all the time i cant fault them
@@stephenfrost201just use an upstand and/or splash back on the worktop to hide the gap.

I’ve fitted loads of Howdens kitchens and compared to some of the other big outfits their stuff is way better plus the fact if you need anything replacing or extra stuff it’s either in stock or a next day job. Try fitting a Magnet kitchen in comparison, it’s like going back to the seventies. The quality is absolutely crap as is the customer service.

For the tall cupboard support I use a slaters lath with a home made “U” clamp with a small locking cam to move the support up and down the lath. Simply made out of scrap wood so I can lock the cam with one finger / thumb.
I fit loads of kitchens. I tend to fit Wren; they are pretty good overall, prebuilt. Sometimes they’re put together a bit wonky, but nothing a bit of jiggery won’t sort. The most useful tools I found when building a kitchen is the palm router and quick clamps. Bish, bash, wallop. Tea up.

5:17 is that enough to keep water out of that cut piece if say dishwasher or ice maker malfunctions and water gets all.over the floor then the partical board sweels up?
Just finished a DIY fit this week. Quality wise OK, few issues with damage and draws put in correctly but overall when compared to the other leading brands better value...
Mini Bosch screwdriver for wall cabs close to low ceilings £40 quid plenty of torque, used it for my entire career of kitchen fitting
Fitted one myself last week very impressed. I did notice tho Dan a few screws in cupboards that I think will be seen? The draw runners have spare screw holes and the hinges have a hole right through the middle. Maybe you put the screws behind shelves..... Proper job tho looks amazing 👍
I do usually try and hide screws behind hinges etc. if it’s in a draw unit then you can’t see it when the draw is in place.

Am I the only tradesman who wishes all the kitchen companies would make an easy fit corner post that fixes to the carcasses directly while maintaining correct position dimensionally, instead of sitting on the corner edge with brackets or kd blocks??.. such a ball ache job..🤦♂️
Would make life so much easier and be a bit sturdier in the long run.. and a blanking panel that screwed from inside the cupboard afterwards would probably be too much to ask for!.. 🤷🏼♂️

Here in the States framers stay in their lane , some might cut roofs like Dan? However ; I hv not seen seen a framer cut roofs & do finish work? I am a finish contractor and finish carpenter so I know the routine! Dan is one in a million and Robin!

I have a very in-depth, long term house renovation in hand and want to find a good all round nail gun for mostly interior work - tons of stud-walling and including building a kitchen (this video inspired me), and maybe some other units. I like the Makita's but the choice is almost limitless. TIA

Hi Dan, for the back panel did you cut just cut the one panel along the V joint, and butt the manufactured end of the other panel into it. Great idea you had to do work with Del I'd be your 1st sub and tell Roger we call you a master craftsman. Have a good Easter.👍👍👍

I cut both sides and butted them, with glue. Nearly hides the joint.
6:01 why are the side panels wider than the rest of the units so they require cutting 20mm off?
9:30 have no sympathy gents, they should lay the floor before you install the kitchen. Good video, and good mix of tools!

Hi David, it’s just a piece of timber to make the original fence longer to help get a better parallel cut.
If you are a good carpenter and well trained the only difference between carpentry joinery and cabinet making is tolerance . Great work Dan.

North Wales, I'm a carpenter & joiner as per my old city and guilds craft certificates, and yes, generally joiners "make," carpenters "fit" but they cross over here and there. So, now let's talk "shuttering" /"formwork!"
Same in Manchester, but here I'll call my self a joiner even though I'm a site fitter. No idea why everyone here calls the carpenters joiners but it's so common that whenever we say joiner they ask "site or bench"😅

how would the floor be laid now (tiles or otherwise)? I didn't quite understand what was said around 9:30... isn't it better to lay the floor first and then assemble/install everything?
you would have to butt the tiles up to the show back and base end panels on the Island ..on a kitchen with out the Island you could unscrew the end panels if you wanted to and tile up to the legs of the units and then alter the hight of the base end panels and refit them.. 99% of kitchens are fitted with a bare floor ..you dont have to worry about damaging the floor this way either
Not that you need any tips but when im fitting a kitchen i go to dulux and get a tester pot of paint mixed up, i take an off cut of decor panel and they scan the colour costs about £5 just incase you get a little chip on the laminate.Super glue was first used during the Vietnam war

Hi Graham, it’s just 20x40 mm extrusion. Searched online for it.
Few timbers with a notch to hold them in place.

Hi dan....What would be the best Dewalt table saw for my lad, as he's just finished his apprenticeship in Kitchen fitting. Out of these 3 choices, which would be the best for him. the 10 inch DWE7492 on the heavy duty roller trolley, the 8inch DWE7485 or the DCS7485T2 54v XR cordless. If the 8inch, would you choose ally trolley or the simple scissor stand. If someone was buying it for you....which would you choose.

Amazing post mate. With DIY KITCHENS, does the design system allow for the extra materials for fillers , corner posts etc or is this something you need to allow for
I think ever part is itemised so you can see where those fillers are.
Great video but can I ask why you trimmed the tall cabinets back at 3 mins 45, is it because they were not used for any appliances? cheers
They have a fridge in there but the wall to wall measurement of the sink run would have required an infill or tray space to get it to work with the units. The service void was not required so it was an easy place to grab a few millimetres and have an unbroken run of units.

New extension. Laminate floor going down. Would you put island on screeded floor first, then laminate and caulk to it? Or put laminate down, then island on top. I'm thinking it could sink a little with weight of island and quartz top. What ya think? Thx.
Think with a floating laminate floor I’d put the island in and floor up to the unit legs. Plynths on top of the floor.

Wren supplied some great back to wall adjustable bolts that you can expand or contract to meet the service space then screw back to the wall right through the middle of them. Much better than L brackets.

When you drilled into the walls for the brackets, how do you get it accurate? Whenever I try, at some point the drill bit hits something in the block and the hole goes wonky. 🤨
Concentrate and don't push too hard.
I sometimes turn off the hammer function on my sds and let the drill bit cut into the wall/brick/block about a quarter of an inch before I let rip and push into it with hammer mode.
Gives you half a chance to keep things super level

I live in Scotland and they are all called joiners but I agree that joiners make the stuff
A joiner is an on-site first and second fix tradesperson... a carpenter is a workshop tradesperson mainly making items for the joiner to fit on site.
