My dad was also in the AAF and his best friend who was a B17 pilot was my farming partner. Ya all awesome. Had soooo many awesome Ww2 friends. Greatest generation ever!! Keep up the great work.
I discover you guys recently and enjoy watching your channel. This is an older video but it’s one I’ve enjoyed so much. I wish and hope the younger generation watches it and realize how fortunate they really are to not have to experience what our fathers before had to.
That's why fuel in wing tanks gets transferred in and internal always gets refilled to be used last. After wings are empty then bellytank comes in last
Another great episode hearing about your family past and how proud you guys of your grandad and what he went though. Can't wait till the next one. On one of your episodes id like to hear what you guy think it will be like 5 10 years from now with all the talk about the green new deal thanks have a great week
Great topic and chat. My dad was on a LST during WW2 in the same area around Italy. And boy did he have some stories to tell, they took on lots of fire without a whole lot of protection since it was pretty low to the water, and during rough seas they got the hell tossed out of them.
Love listening to Tork’s voice. I grew up, and my family traces back to the 1840’s, in south central Iowa (Clarke\Decatur\Wayne\Lucas). I was so far south and my drawl so strong, people in Des Moines knew you were from southern Iowa or northern MO. When I moved to Des Moines, Dallas TX, Denver CO people would listen to how slow I talked and assume I was stupid…. Until they started working with me. Then I’d have to tell them “just cause I talk slow, down mean I’m stupid “. Also love how detail you are with you stories, I’m then same way… and it frustrates the hell out of my kids, just like it appears to do to Sawyer. 😂
I can’t imagine getting to your flight location and be shown your tent and everyone that had been in that tent was dead. What! Can you imagine! Then be put in a plane you’ve never flown and go to war the next day. What! That War! Life was cheap! God Bless all those great men and women who were in that horrible War! 50 + missions was amazing good fortune! Must have been a hell of a pilot !
Recently found your TH-cam channel and the Podcast. Going back to past videos and podcast. FYI the P-51 with drop tanks had a range of 1600-1650 miles depending on speed, height and the better of the P-51’s had the Merlin engine with supercharger that was licensed to Packard to build. They had 6 .50 caliber not .30 caliber
Very nice tribute to the greatest generation!! Sawyer your generation is going to be put to the test with the crap we are in now. With more kids like you we will be fine. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 WWG1WGA
I just got thinking. Can your family be linked to the famed lady in the picture “Whistlers Daughter”? Whistler is an unusual name. Just want to thank you Tork for all of the amazing memories of your father. Sawyer is in awe of his Dad. That is so unusual in this crazy world. I’m sure that no one’s perfect and I can bet that Torks perfectionism causes problems as he expects so much of himself. Torks Dad set a high bar and just expected the same from anyone who worked for him. His War experience took a lot of the compassion from him. He was one tough cookie. But look what happened. Tork is a wonderful helping Dad. He’s got to be one heck of a salesman with a memory and intellect to match. Sawyer is a good boy and a real compliment to the farming industry in Iowa. Tork your going to leave a great legacy in Iowa farming and hog industry. I have learned so much from you and Tucker. I enjoyed your brother too. He is probably one heck of a stylist too!
Yer grandpa has nearly the same history as my Dad (same year of birth) went to college and then to flight school in '41 for BOMBERS .. then back to the apple farm ever after
Hey sawyor I hope I soled your name right but my name is Owen in 14 and we have an old diary barn that just sits empty and I have been watching your TH-cam videos for a while and it gave me a idea well maybe I could redo it a little bit and raise some hogs in it but I am not sure where to get Wiener pigs from I thought maybe you would have some places I could get them from any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Owen
My great grandfather was in the navy in WW2. On a cargo carrier from the US to England then he was packed onto a Beacher and was on the beaches of Normandy…. I wish I could have heard more stories from him. He passed when I was 6-7 years old in 2005. He was shot in his lung and it collapsed and smoked Camels until he died. You talk about tough?!!! My favorite story was him and his buddy wlaking through a village in France they just pushed the Germans back and killed a few. His buddy was stomping Germnay mouths out and taking their gold teeth and my Hreat Grandfather said “ hey! That nasty as hell!! Wtf are you doing?!!” His buddy said “ ain’t as nasty as what you got in that helmet!!” 🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 he kept the Kar98-K rifle and ditched the Nazi helmet. The rifle sits up on the boards where the hay stacked in his barn in Charleston, SC…… family won’t let us go get any of his stuff. He also found a pocket watch in the war that back then was worth $50,000 that he told my father when he was a kid that he could have when he passed…
Thank you! It’s hard to know when to stop... don’t want to be too long but I can retell Dad’s stories for hours. We will do more for sure. Thanks again.
If you were a farmer, in college, or some other productive job or things they would ignore you. Now they would ask the oldest son to come and leave dad and the rest to the farm.
You were not drafted if you had a job that was important to the war effort, such as building planes, tanks, guns, working in the food or shipping industries or if you were a FARMER.

Thanks for sharing your dad's story and be so real and sharing your emotions.
