  • Hey mamas! This question was a good one!
I hope this helps in thinking about wether or not Gather Round might be a good fit for your family!
✨New here? Introduce yourself in the comments!
    I’ll go first:
I’m Christina. I’m married to my best friend, Seth, we have 5 kids (ages 2, 4, 7, 11, & 14), and love our family, Jesus, and adventuring together.
We are passionate about being counter culture, including alternatives to traditional schooling. I have experience as a public school teacher, private school teacher, and homeschool mom!
I love the Charlotte Mason education approach, and many others, but I’d say we are more of an eclectic homeschool-mixing the different aspects of homeschool styles that we love-living books, literature-based learning, Montessori, nature study, and so much more!
Whether you are considering homeschooling, new to homeschooling, considering alternative ways to educate your child, or just looking for some encouragement and inspiration for your motherhood journey, I hope you feel welcome and encouraged here 🤍

If it helps any families, I am a history professor. I have bene so impressed with my students who were homeschooled that I put all my lectures up as a free resource to homeschooling families. They are all on my channel. I have a ton of content on Western Civ and the History of the Middle East.

I love this, thank you!! I would love to get a sort of day in your life where we could see a sort of idea on how you get through each subject throughout the homeschool week! I’m struggling now that this is my first year where 3 of my 4 kids are doing school and I want to make sure that I can fit in what they need to be learning this year 🥹😅

Your explanation was very tasteful and well thought out! We use unit studies as our spine from GRH and Campfire. But we also like to mash in other things (like you do with all your other curriculum and resources) like printables, living books, hands on activities, museum trips, etc. Some of our favorite GRH units have been Vikings, Europe, Creepy Crawly Things, Artists, and Africa.

We tried it our first homeschool year. My kids were too young honestly and we have found that living books or charlotte mason style is more a fit for us. But it was beautiful and well done!

My middle schooler wanted to do things more independently, I have two littles that were requiring too much of me and he would end up waiting for me to get through the reading 🤪. One of my littles will be starting K this fall and I'm SO excited to get into letters and numbers and have gather round in our days again at least to that capacity ❤️

We’re in the same boat - we are one our 3rd unit for the year. My middle schooler dropped it completely so I’m working on it with my 9 year old .
We switched to MBs this year and it seems to be causing less frustration . And we use GR as an add on for fun
Except I own all the units … at this rate my youngest will be graduating before we get to them all .
I want to try the Resurrection unit in March and Titanic in April from Campfire … I’m such a titanic buff haha 😆

I’ve used gather round for a few years on and off. I also feel it was such a lifesaver in the beginning along with TGTB. I will say now that to me gather round is more of a “scattered”and “facts of “ type of curriculum this year we used it for artists, transportation, and now chemistry… overall I am happy that for chemistry I decided to also buy the apologia book and the guest hollow curriculum because it is much more focused and to me with a subject like chemistry I want my kids to have a solid foundation that follows a progression the way GR presents it is very scattered like nearly all of the units. We are still using it sort of as a read aloud and facts of… but I’m finding value in the guest hollow where they can hopefully understand the correlations better in chemistry. I did like GR for human body though since they go into each body system and give a facts of kind of view which is good for elementary age. I honestly do not think I’ll use only GR again for science that I want a firm view on though… maybe as a highlight type unit for psychology or entrepreneurship may be good though. ( sorry for the long rambling post)

I hear you. We love GRH and have done so many units the past two years. I had planned to use 4-5 this year and we are only just finishing up on our 2nd one. I added in Campfire Curriculum so I think now I feel torn between the two. We definitely love unit-style schooling.

We have done a lot of GR units for the past 3 years! This year the big hit was Dinosaurs! 🦖🦕 Other favs we have done have been Space, Oceans, Earth Science, Creepy Crawlies, USH 1 & 2. We switched to doing TGATB Health and the Physical Body and wow we love it so much as well! I can’t just stick to one company for unit studies, I love to switch it up😊

Hi! I have a young high schooler and would definitely be interested in hearing more about your decision on not doing a full, rigorous Chemistry curriculum. He will not be going into a chem field, so I feel an overview would be perfect. We also enjoy TGTB science!
Thanks and love your videos. ❤

Hi! I did a video about this before the school year started, I just can’t remember which one it was! I just think it’s unnecessary and really just a public school mindset that we don’t have to follow. Especially, like you said, if it’s not relevant to their talents, interests, goals, etc. Like we’ll cover it, but not for a year! 😅

I’m a first time homeschool mom and I was looking at gather round but I’ve heard a lot of things about it not being enough to be a full curriculum. Did you use it as the whole curriculum or did you add stuff in? My kids are in kindergarten and 2nd this coming up year.
