if the musicians were trying to make a song of honor, friendship, glory, despair, faith, believe and much much more, then they pretty much nailed it to perfection.
Kyuzo was my favorite of the Samurai.... calm, steady, and composed even in the worst of situations, as lethal as the dreaded black mamba in every confrontation, modest even when he had every reason to brag... that's someone you want by your side when lives are at stake.
Kyuzo had the traits that every man could wish for, calm and measured, determined and merciful, honourable and respectful, physically and mentally fit. These are all fine things that men today should strive to be. Unfortunately women in western society seek the wealth and chatels of a shallow man. And dont give value to status and honour.
One of the Greatest epic movie ever made in the world film industry. Think in 1956's technology was not so developed to the highest level still film maker successful to achieve the correct feelings, music through best actors, musicians, camera man etc. Hats off to the dedication level by all of them to achieve a world class epic film in that era with limited resources. In that Era film was a feeling, dedication and not a business. LOVE FROM INDIA ❤❤❤
This is quite possibly the greatest theme of all time from the greatest movie, this movie is so underappreciated or unheard. I was fortunate enough to see this movie as a child, adoring Samuria I did my chores to be able to watch all of it as I saw it was coming on. I never forgot it. Took me ages and I finally found a "remastered" dvd of it. When nothing else is entertaining I can always sit down and be enthralled to this film start to finish.
Watching Seven Samurai is like a master class in how to make a movie. Every single scene and shot contributes something to the whole, and not one line of dialogue is wasted.
Toshihiro Mifune steals the scenes in almost everything he is....even a movie as incredibly cast as this one. It may have had one of the most bittersweet endings of any film I ever saw.
Whenever I think of this movie, think of the way Kikuchiyo went out. He was stabbed but he gathered the last of his strength to kill his attacker. The best part? It wasn’t super dramatized, it was just raw. No music or nothing. That final shot too. All seven of the samurai in one frame. Beautiful film.
The power, the passion, the sacrifice, the confrontation of inner demons, the loss of innocence, the purity of heart and character showing through when tested. This movie is life.
Kikuchiyo - The man that wins the battle. I like how his less-than-glorious samurai bloodline is turned into an advantage, and ultimately ties the villagers and the samurai into a coherent fighting unit.
"underappreciated or unheard"? Honestly? It's considered one of the best movies of all time. Don't try to act cool saying only you and a few people have seen this masterpiece. Everyone who loves movies has seen or heard of it.
I enjoyed this immensely! Reminded me that one of the reasons why I loved this film was because of the soundtrack! Now off to dust off that old DVD and watch this movie again! Thanks for posting!
superb movie just finished watching it 10 mins ago ... Sad ending, but truly magnificent and now that I'm listening to this at this very moment tears come to my eyes... I think I'll re-watch it in a near future.
I lost my vhs copy of this on a bus. I'd love to see this on utube. It is an incredible, incredible, incredible, awesome, awesome, awesome film. It is also incredible and awesome.
Seven Samurai, one of those very very few movies that were actually true perfection, not just phony shallow Hollywood bleeding heart type stuff that everyone seems to praise like "It's a wonderful life", no, all the credit that went to Seven Samurai was well placed. It's true in all times that true genius is often overlooked and dismissed.
One of the best movies of its kind, a real classic. Is that I have in my personal collection. Akira Kurosawa, were a teacher, live in our memories. Greetings from Peru to all who love good cinema.
i remember when i was like 15 and i was bored to death one night, i was channel surfing and came across this movie.I couldn't stop watching lol.I absolutely love this movie.
Impeccable composition, great music, simple plot, complex characters, awesome symbolism and superb performances. I specially like the use of wide angle lenses and how the personalities of each samurai help to tell the story. This kind of cinema is new for me, yet it feels familiar.
i watched this movie for the first time when i was 7 or 8 with my father, and it just blew me away. and i have it watched it many many times since, but it never loses it's impact or beauty!
Akira Kurosawa seems to have liked John Ford's movies, Russian literature, Shakespeare. The sense of justice in the scene at the Drive-in restaurant of the movie“The Grapes of Wrath"feels something that leads to the movie" Seven Samurai ".
Rashomon is my favorite, Seven Samurai is extremely close, they go hand in hand. They're both masterpieces. I also watched Throne of Blood recently for the first time, great film. Kurosawa's the best
Warlord: "What is best in life?" Conan: "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." Me: "Wrong, to hear Fumio Hayasaka, emulate Kyūzō (third from rear) and watch Seven Samurai!" If I had to pick one song to play for the ferry man as we crossed Styx, this would be the one that would get me free passage. If St. Peter asks why I should pass, I'd press play on my 80's boom box and this song would open the gates.
definately the Japanese "Citizen Kane". the greatest movie that country ever produced. the 1960 American western "The Magnificent Seven" is an exact re-run with Yul Brynner playing the Takashi Shimura leader role. the other Akira Kurosawa movie copied almost verbatim is his 1961 "Yojimbo". it's basic plot of both Clint Eastwood's 1964 western classic "A Fistful of Dollars" and Bruce Willis's 1996 prohibition era gangster movie "Last Man Standing"
Favorite movie. Huge Kurosawa fan. Best sound track ever. =) Provided I'd rather listen to So Cow or Deerhoof on my off days but, still.. I could listen to this all day.
I dunno man, Mifune is totally amazing and charismatic and I can certainly see why he's everyone's favorite, but I often think when it comes to raw acting talent, Nakadai might be his superior. That man is like a damned chameleon with all the different roles he could play. I'd be inclined to say that his range is far greater.

"Got two."
For me is the same. In second place Shimada Kanbei

The best movie I have ever seen. Akira Kurosawa is the samurai of directing. The soundtrack is also epic.
Watching Seven Samurai is like a master class in how to make a movie. Every single scene and shot contributes something to the whole, and not one line of dialogue is wasted.
I nominate Fumio Hayasaka as not only the best Japanese movie music composer, but one of the best in the world.
Toshihiro Mifune steals the scenes in almost everything he is....even a movie as incredibly cast as this one. It may have had one of the most bittersweet endings of any film I ever saw.
Hayasaka-san was one of the greatest film composers, though he died at a tragically young age. May he rest in peace.
Whenever I think of this movie, think of the way Kikuchiyo went out. He was stabbed but he gathered the last of his strength to kill his attacker. The best part? It wasn’t super dramatized, it was just raw. No music or nothing.

Pure cinematography by a great master!
This Movie Means Everything To Me! It is Infinite in Seven Folds. It is Limitless in Timeless Story Telling About Seven Brave Souls.
Am I the only one who cracks a smile when Kikuchiyo's theme kicks in?

He's the greatest!!
Kukuchiyo for the win!

Powerful film indeed, no one will ever reach Kurusawa's talent at story telling...

I am convinced that Seven Samurai breaks the time/space continuum, watching it only feels like 40 minutes, but 3 and a half hours pass...
One of the greatest films, undoubtedly.
