Well done for driving. As a Brit - when I drive in Europe or America, it takes us about a day of driving and then becomes quite natural. I do realise though that with our roads it will be harder for anyone from America or Canada to get used to (due to your bigger and easier road systems).
Sweet ride you chose for Northern Ireland ❤️. And I love your new friend that helped you navigate to Giant’s Causeway! So many challenges when traveling…..if that camera was running 24/7……..thanks for making it seem easy and letting travelers know that it’s not the destination, but the journey 💗. @@Stand663 I don’t think your views on free healthcare at the point of delivery are distinctly British. They’re fairly universal and widespread. Healthcare across Europe and most of the developed world is either free or affordable. There’s no reason the HSE can’t offer similar models or the same model as the NHS. This is all up for debate as we think about ‘a new Ireland’. The current model of government from Westminster isn’t working - in fact, it’s been broken for a very long time and now is the time for real change across these islands. @Sam Dickson Firstly, you're misinformed. Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain and other countries offer free universal healthcare that is funded by taxation - similar to the NHS. Germany is one of the biggest spenders on healthcare in Europe. It spends 11.1% of annual GDP on healthcare expenditure. All Germans and legal residents of Germany are entitled to free “medically necessary” public healthcare, which is funded by social security contributions. If your brother moved back to the UK, perhaps this is a consequence of Brexit. He, sadly, no longer can live/work in Germany without an abundance of paperwork. Of course, there are British people in Europe. I live in Amsterdam and I have colleagues and friends from Scotland and England. Their love for the NHS doesn't mean they're going to give up their lives in Europe to return home. There are lots of British people in Ireland who work and avail of the HSE. We are not confined to stay in the countries we're born in. We all chase dreams, love, hopes, desires, ambitions and love, regardless of what divides us. People learn new languages and learn to drive on the left. It's not a big deal, and doesn't make the UK special. Sadly, Brits did give up their freedoms and independence, and now we're seeing the UK go backwards on migration, environmental issues and human rights. Yes, tax payers care about healthcare - of course they do, but there are other issues too. Education, infrastructure, jobs, quality of life, standard of living, a free and open economy where you can trade with neighbour and prosper. These issues weren't spoken about in 2016. You were told that there would be £350M per week available to fund the NHS, but the reality is, the Tories introduced a Health and Social Care Levy, which means they lied to you. The irony of UK retirees in Spain and Portugal doesn't escape me. Sadly, these people were convinced to vote against their own interests, ending the freedom of movement which allowed them to do this. No, they cannot retire in the sun. What's even sadder about this, is the lost opportunities for UK students to work and study across 27 countries. Yes, English might be a predominant language, but that doesn't diminish the need for other languages. In fact, it just highlights my point of 'British exceptionalism' and 'British elitism' which is very dangerous. It's sad to see your country in the state that it's in, with working families using food banks and the elderly choosing between eating or heating. It's no longer a 'cost of living' crisis - it's a 'cost of surviving crisis' which has been exacerbated post-Brexit. I am actually from the occupied six counties of Ireland, and partition has failed for over 100 years. The state was set up to be a 'cold house' for native Irish Catholics. These days are over, and good riddance to them. The future is bright for Ireland, and the PLU community have nothing to fear from Irish unity. They will never be treated how the British treated the Irish (starvation, eviction, poverty, lack of education, "no blacks, no dogs, no Irish", mass emigration, genocide). It's important to note that being pro-Irish or pro-European, doesn't mean "anti-English" or "anti-British". And again, you need to read The GFA if you think Irish passport holders need a visa to enter the UK - you're sadly mistaken, once again. Are are lots of people across the British Isles who want change, whether they're English nationalists, Conservative voters or anti-monarchy republicans. The good thing about democracy is that the people decide. Don't be afraid of change, because it's happening. Referendums will happen in Ireland and Scotland. This, my friend, is democracy. The people will decide. Moreover, the US is Irish. Joe Biden is Irish. The Irish issue is bipartisan in the US, uniting Democrats and Republicans - which is difficult to do. The GFA must be protected - peace and stability in Ireland is a priority for everyone. The only real solution, post Brexit, is Irish unity. This is inevitable and work is being done right now to prepare for it. Do not fear, there is nothing to worry about, but change is coming and the SNP and Sinn Fein are growing in popularity at the ballot box. Ps, it's ironic that you use the words 'intimidation, violence and terrorism' - when in fact, this is exactly what Britain did to Ireland. Ireland has (and had) every right to defend itself over 800 years of oppression at the hands of imperial Britain, who ruled with an iron fist. You need to understand your history to understand the struggle of Irish freedom and independence. Which is why we stand with Ukraine. We do not support aggressive, violent neighbours who want to destroy indigenous, native people which their own language, culture, heritage and traditions.
