I own a Helix, love it's versatility but I don't understand why people hated so much. Maybe people just like to spend more money and to justify it they say thay ax fx or kemper sound better. To me they sound different but is not day and night difference.
My housemate is a Fractal guy. Swears by that, can't stand the Helix: says it sounds "too digital." I'm okay with that... especially with the learning curve of the Fractal and the Helix (combined with the Shuriken Variax) being so integrated and easy to use.
Wow, excellent and thorough review that actually shows the practicality of the tools demonstrated! I have never seen a review this down-to-earth and clear. Thank you, Leo! Great video.
Wow! I am no musician. Just your ordinary humbled music listener. The tools of your trade are awesome. Keep putting out the content. You freaking rock man! Love ya. Be safe. Have fun and smile big.
Nice to see you walk through this, I got a Shuriken not long ago and love it to bits. Have always wanted to be able to change tunings on the fly, and here you get that (and all with normal string tensions) and much more. Going to be picking up a Helix, maybe the LT, sometime this year I reckon.
I've been using this setup on the road with Charlie Farley for the last several months- amazing to say the least. Changing tuning on the fly, the awesome acoustic sound, and ability to play banjo parts is awesome, as well as the ability to switch to open g just for slide parts! I Love it and highly recommend!
Awesome to see how far the Variax has come. I had the original when it first came out, and it was so bad I couldn’t give it away when the time came. Hope the live shows are a great success!
That's pretty amazing. I knew the musical value of the Variaxe before, but to see it in a real word situation where it's critical to the very existence of the performance is extremely convincing. Have a good gig man.
The only way it have to improve is tone wise and timing wise, to make it sound more natural and erase any kind of latency it can have compared to the real instrument, also, I forgot, it needs to achieve each instrument's dynamics and the challenge is around the physics involved in each instrument
Much love leo, when i saw stevik explain that guitar i thought that was the coolest thing, the way you use it is so homie though, like you put class into it
I just started watching your content, Leo and I’m a huge fan! I just started playing electric about a year now although I’ve been a keyboard player for 24 years. I record my own music for our channel. Love your work mate! ~Freak
Hey, Leo! Jeg har Line 6 Helix og planlegger kjøp av Shuriken :) La merke til at du har Line 6 amp «Badonk» ? Mener jeg har oppdatert til siste patch, men har ikke den..
I remember hearing that you guys switched from the SR270 to the SR250. Can you tell us why? What were the advantages/disadvantages? Was there a big difference in tone?
Does the guitar work with the line 6 helix light? With tunings and all the other options? For a more economical option? Sounds awesome. Good advertising for line 6. I never heard of the guitar before.
Hello, Leo. How to connect variax guitar to a wireless system so that you can control the switching of models from the Helix? Are there such devices from line 6?
Do you find it weird to be strumming a standard E tuning when you're physically tuned to Drop D? do you have to have the amp up so loud that you don't hear the strings?
Hi Man did you have to use any lo/hi cut using the ownhammer IRs in a live band situation with Rabea? I'm planning to use mine live with the band but it sounds as if anything above 9k is just becoming this digital noise and buzzy scratchy harsh tone. Ownhammer IRs are great, but still i feel like they require a lot of help too.
This setup absolutely makes sense for you. I've heard of people transplanting the "guts" of a Variax into other guitars. Might that be a project you'd try down the line?
how comes you decided on the helix and not the headrush board for your rig? Are the helix units more durable or anything like that? I'm saving up for a board atm and can't decide between them.
Leo .. Killer rig ! I believe there are a 'lot' of people that would love to see this show May 12th. I am one of them. It's lil too far from Canada ... How about you live stream the concert .. C'mon ;)
I just got me a shuriken fingers are killing, what size strings do you use? Its got me fooked. And were the hell do i get workbench? Thanks ledge! Im australian by the way lol
Leo, your tones sound great. I know you mention using the Badonk amp but I see your patches also have a preamp first in line. What is this and how do you use it?
Leo, please do something to have the current venue upgraded to a bigger one for your upcoming show in Budapest, Hungary... I would like to see your rig in action, but the show sold out in no time...
U have any patches available for sale that have been tested "road worthy" for a live setup direct in P.A.? I find many patches sound great recorded or thru FRFR computer monitors but live is a different animal :-)
You're the man Leo. And that set up looks sick. I wish I could come see you guys live, but being disabled and on a fixed income doesn't leave any money to do any travelling.😟
you should look after the Snapshot function in the Helix. You can have 1 Preset per Song and 8 Snapshots in the Preset. Like Snapshot for Intro, Verse, Chorus, Solo and no gap between changing the Snapshot. I love it!
If you wanna see this setup in action, come to our show:)
Frog Leap Studios ,yeahboy
Do you have gigs in Finland?
I would, but it´s hard to get there as a student.....
Ohhh, nice eletric guitar, in the future i try to go to the show. \m/ \m/
Frog Leap Studios Im in argentina right now so please star the show with out me this time .....

I guess the hate comes mostly of analog guys...who worship their tubeamps...and therefore every digital piece of gear is the devils work
Line 6 is the Nickelback of gear. Thats why.
Ooooh, somebody's been busy, 'ave ya?
Edit: ....12 foot ninja cover, maybe?
Robert Bernstein like a frog...
Leaping all over the place...
On a hot summer day on a concrete...
A.W.E.S.O.M.E! especially sitar. Very cool.
Wow, excellent and thorough review that actually shows the practicality of the tools demonstrated! I have never seen a review this down-to-earth and clear. Thank you, Leo! Great video.
Love the Variax and this is sweet to see your setup! Great video! Love to get you on The Helix Hour sometime!
Leo, you are an amazing musician. Keep rocking.
Damn. Once again being remembered why drop c will always be my favorite tuning.
Great tones man! 🤘😉🤘
Wow! I am no musician. Just your ordinary humbled music listener. The tools of your trade are awesome. Keep putting out the content. You freaking rock man! Love ya. Be safe. Have fun and smile big.
If you haven't already, check out Twelve Foot Ninja. Stevic Mackay actually designed the Shuriken. Cool band!
really badass playing bro,
That a totally BA setup... as a software developer it still never surprises me what we can do with tech :)
Nice to see you walk through this, I got a Shuriken not long ago and love it to bits. Have always wanted to be able to change tunings on the fly, and here you get that (and all with normal string tensions) and much more. Going to be picking up a Helix, maybe the LT, sometime this year I reckon.

Not to mention load in load out lol! Easiest gear to tote in existence!
Thanks a lot for this Video! You´ve shown in a short time all the stuff than others Need for two Hours! More of These, please!
Damn that Helix is a beast.
Awesome to see how far the Variax has come. I had the original when it first came out, and it was so bad I couldn’t give it away when the time came. Hope the live shows are a great success!
What a fuckin' sweet piece of tech. A little expensive but very cool nonetheless.
A lil expensive? That's $3k of gear w/ just the guitar & footboard.
Would love to see that preset on custom Tones.... or maybe details in another video?^^
That's pretty amazing.
I knew the musical value of the Variaxe before, but to see it in a real word situation where it's critical to the very existence of the performance is extremely convincing.
Have a good gig man.
That sounds surprisingly good for being completey digital. I like it!
AWESOME !!! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR LIVE CONCERT !!
IT WILL BE INCREDIBLE !!
YOUR WORK IS INCREDIBLE !!
THIS IS THE MOST QUALITY SOUND I`VE EVER HEARD WoooooW !!!! THANKS FOR STUFF YOU PLAYING !!!!!!
just ordered my Helix. very excited about it .
Imagine guitar technology in 10 years. This stuff is amazing
fnordi my Les Paul into my Marshall 😬
Love my Helix, planning to buy a Variax, but man I love plugging in my LP to my AC15 straight. I love options!!!!
Those distortion sounds are terrible. Plug into an Orange and you will see the light
The only way it have to improve is tone wise and timing wise, to make it sound more natural and erase any kind of latency it can have compared to the real instrument, also, I forgot, it needs to achieve each instrument's dynamics and the challenge is around the physics involved in each instrument
FPChris *evh
Are you going to video record the show? because id totally watch that entire video.
Hope he records it for us utube Junkies :)
Should do it as a live show, then we can all be there. 😀
Oh man what a sick set up!
Much love leo, when i saw stevik explain that guitar i thought that was the coolest thing, the way you use it is so homie though, like you put class into it
You can use Snapshot. With the presetchanges you have little Breaks between them. With Snapshots you have tails.
I could listen to you play guitar all day.
Leo, great live setup. Should work great for you. Hope you have fun at the shows.
Finally! Some TALENT on stage.
Awesome setup, very useful to change tuning without tune guitar
Man I want to see you live! I do hope you upload a lot of, if not all of, the show for those that can't attend!
Love the Sitar!
That's awesome. I hope you post some of the show on here. We all can't make it out to show.
Very helpful Leo! Thank you for sharing with us!
As of 3 days ago, I now coincidentally own and use your exact setup (shuriken and helix). Now I just need your talent 😂
That's my dream setup!!!
great! I always think that the pitch shifting doesn't sound good, but you managed to use it in a good and creative way.
I would love to see you guys live.. if you ever make it to the west coast of the US I will be there!
I just started watching your content, Leo and I’m a huge fan! I just started playing electric about a year now although I’ve been a keyboard player for 24 years. I record my own music for our channel. Love your work mate!

Great videos man! Your what got me into metal in the first place!🤟🤟 @ Frog Leap Studios
that pedal is so awesome
I remember hearing that you guys switched from the SR270 to the SR250. Can you tell us why? What were the advantages/disadvantages? Was there a big difference in tone?
Nice! Any chance of you uploading those patches / presents up to CustomTone?
Does the guitar work with the line 6 helix light? With tunings and all the other options? For a more economical option? Sounds awesome. Good advertising for line 6. I never heard of the guitar before.
Hahahahahaha the magician's hat!!! It's amazing always watch u creating your art!
Soon it will be difficult to find guitar in a mix, because of Drop "Z" tuning which will go into subsonic frequencies :)
Awesome man, i'd freak out at a live show. Big fan
that 46 and 2 vibe. i love it 2:10
Hello, Leo.
How to connect variax guitar to a wireless system so that you can control the switching of models from the Helix?
Are there such devices from line 6?
You cant
The variax is also able to use the modeling inside it standalone without the helix.
That is a really cool setup! And I've always wanted to go to Norway....
Very cool! I wish they made a left-handed version!
Do you find it weird to be strumming a standard E tuning when you're physically tuned to Drop D? do you have to have the amp up so loud that you don't hear the strings?
Yeah you’ll probably want head phones
That is really cool.. amazing actually
Nice vid! Same setup here. I have barely scratched the surface on the Shuriken but what a great guitar! Love your channel.
That solo 5:20-6:06 🔥
I've been eyeing the Shuriken since it came out.
That's one sweet piece of kit loe .
That is SOOOO awesome! I suck at programming those things though. I'd end up paying someone to do it for me haha
Dude that is really cool
This is amazing.
Hey Leo, Great setup. how do you connect Variaz guitar to Helix? is it wireless?
Awesome buddy!
I have that same setup also running it through a fire hawk 1500.
3:05 In the ghostbusters riff the bass goes to E instead of G#.

The fuck, this is amazing.
That's so freakin awesome
Just bought one! Are you using Snapshots? They are really good!
Sooooo amazing 😱
Ohh the sitar Sound reminded me of Metallica
Wherever I may roam!
...aaandd Dream Theater!
AWESOME!!!!
you play amazing man, keep playing like that brother, greetings from mexico man
if you tour the U.S. I'd totally come see the show!
That was super interesting!
how comes you decided on the helix and not the headrush board for your rig? Are the helix units more durable or anything like that? I'm saving up for a board atm and can't decide between them.
Can you post some of your tone setups on Custom tone? Or make a video about them? 😊❤️
nice video leo nice setup!!!
Pretty sweet
Leo .. Killer rig !
I believe there are a 'lot' of people that would love to see this show May 12th. I am one of them. It's lil too far from Canada ... How about you live stream the concert .. C'mon ;)
it would be cool to be able to tune a half step down and still play in E. loosening up the action would make some more techniques and tricks possible.
I just got me a shuriken fingers are killing, what size strings do you use? Its got me fooked. And were the hell do i get workbench? Thanks ledge! Im australian by the way lol

No issues with palm muting here as Leo nailing ghostbusters them palm muting.
U have any patches available for sale that have been tested "road worthy" for a live setup direct in P.A.? I find many patches sound great recorded or thru FRFR computer monitors but live is a different animal :-)
Can you make a video explaining how to setup the Variax and helix together?
You're the man Leo. And that set up looks sick. I wish I could come see you guys live, but being disabled and on a fixed income doesn't leave any money to do any travelling.😟
you should look after the Snapshot function in the Helix. You can have 1 Preset per Song and 8 Snapshots in the Preset. Like Snapshot for Intro, Verse, Chorus, Solo and no gap between changing the Snapshot. I love it!
You should use snapshots within a song (no dropout when changing), not change presets (dropouts)
Kult setup! Har du en backup gitar også live da?
Awsome !!!
I want a whole 10 hour video of the banjo track, just on loop will be fine
Ghost bustin makes me feel good
So Cool!
