    Here's a hint if you really want to do real Ambient Looping: Why don't you guys implement Feedback -- like in other high-end loopers -- so that the older layers will gradually fade as new content is overdubbed?
    Stefan's ambient loop here is a good example. It sounds good. However, what is he going to do with the loop once it's closed (aside from the standard tricks such as half/double-speed or reverse)? The loop itself an artifact. Yes, it's chugging away back there in the background, but it's now completely static, unmoving.
    Now, Stefan can either open the loop back up and overdub new lines -- in which case the whole thing becomes a huge car crash because there's no more room in the spectrum for new material -- or he can fade/kill the whole loop and start over again. There's no in-between.
    Feedback control solves that problem by allowing older material to gradually fade away as you overdub new material on top. Implement that one function, and it will boost the Ditto X2 into a truly great Looper, and an indispensable tool for Ambient Looping.

      Thanks for the feedback Dustbunnies (no pun intended). It's sadly not possible to implement this feature into the Ditto X2 Looper as it is now, but perhaps in a future product. It would indeed be an awesome option to have for everybody who loves looping.

      TC Electronic Hey guys in my opinion one of the best loopers out there is the one on the dl4. Why don't you make a Ditto x4 that would allow to have the classic Rec/Overdub - Play/stop - Play once - 1/2 speed/reverse setup?

  • @LaniakeaLeathercrafts
    @LaniakeaLeathercrafts 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ya know, I was on the fence on whether I should get the original Ditto or the x2. I like the original because it's very small and the real estate on my board is limited. The additional option to start and stop the Ditto with an extra button seemed very helpful to me. However I didn't feel like I could use the Reverse nor the 1/2 speed option. However, this alone makes it seem worth it just from hearing what you did with it!
    I'm looking to create some ambient stuff and those features seem like they would make great tones! Thanks a ton for this video. It's extremely helpful!

    Nice! I love how many tricks this pedal can do. I discovered a similar sort of trick with omg X2 before I watched this video but adding the 4 seconds of quite looping seems to be more of an effective way to get those sounds to all mold together.

    to send you drum loops for example. I have tried and if it records
    but it is not heard through the speaker.

    • @caraze929
      @caraze929 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Emanuel Valente because loop pedals take the first recording as the main length.. and prerecoring it makes it easier as you don't have to worry about playing and pressing record as the same time .. and the recordings are gonna loop smoothly

  • @kcic707

    so, you have to have to have some other type of effects pedal (outside of the Ditto) in order to make this work, correct?

    • @tcelectronic
      @tcelectronic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kyle Cicilioni - If you want all the ambience, yes. But that's not really what the trick is about. It's about getting a seamless droning loop going, which is great in an ambient context, but you can use the trick in whatever context you want to :)

    The Ditto X2 looper is a very cool pedal however if you are playing high gain metal you won't be able to hear anything, so you definitely need 2 amps for it, even with clean sound 2 amps are a better choice.

    Are you recording new loops each time you add an ambient tone? Or just once? It's really cool. I'll need to add some sort of volume control to my acoustic but I'm going to give this a shot.

    I LOVE my X2!! Use it everyday for riff writing, working out dual guitar parts, jamming to backing tracks and just general sonic experimentation. Love it. That aside, I must be dim this morning. What is the trick here? I think I am missing something. What is the purposr of the silent loop? Thanks!

    • @tcelectronic
      @tcelectronic  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This trick lets effects spill over into the next cycle of the loop, since you already have a defined start and end point. If you tried to do these highly effected volume swells in the "regular" looping fashion by tapping in - playing - tapping out it would most likely create a small gap of silence in the loop, since the effects aren't allowed to spill over. Hope this makes sense and clarifies the trick :)

    • @brianpatrick6102
      @brianpatrick6102 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TC Electronic ooooh I get it. Took me like 5 minutes to think it out, but I get it now. Haha wow. I should have stayed in bed today. :) thank you!! I think my brain is on spill over mode.

    Can someone explain the recording silence at the beginning? I can’t seem to get my head around it in a practical sense

    • @stevemowatt3973
      @stevemowatt3973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s for the overdubs. When you add the first overdub, it automatically makes it fit to the number of seconds you were silence. This way you don’t need to “ nail” the first thing you play

    • @stevemowatt3973
      @stevemowatt3973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So now, technical your first overdub is actually the “base” of your ambient piece. Hope I’m explaining it right. I’m not even sure ;).

    Have yall abandoned updating your iPhone app to beam Toneprints?

    • @tcelectronic
      @tcelectronic  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We most definitely haven't ***** . But we have had some issues with the iPhone app and its update procedure. It's not that it isn't working it just updates very slowly (we're looking into fixing it :) ) The trick is to open the app, and leave it open for 5-10min. It's very important that you don't close the app, since this will abort the update process that's going on in the background. After 5-10min the app should be fully up to date with all the latest TonePrints. Hope this helps :)

    • @tcelectronic
      @tcelectronic  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Has the beaming process worked before Justin Wilson ? Or has it never worked? Because if it's never worked, then it's probably due to an outdated firmware version in the pedals. You just need to update them, and then the beaming should work :)

    • @Justin-dg2nn
      @Justin-dg2nn 9 ปีที่แล้ว
