These beaches, close to Trincomalee on the East Coast of Sri Lanka, are considered to be a hidden paradise where not many tourists visit.
Due to the long conflict between the government forces and the Tamil Tigers, this part of Sri Lanka was cut off from tourism for decades, so remain considerably undeveloped in comparison to the resorts in the South.
Now, in peacetime, they are becoming discovered and are a paradise for the adventurous traveller who wants to get off the beaten track.

As a child living in Upuveli, I used to ride my bicycle on the jungle-lined road to Nilaveli; and I honed my swimming skills at Upuveli beach. Alongside my siblings, we cherished countless joyous moments on what was then a deserted beach. Your video showing the area’s remarkable transformation from mostly jungle and a few isolated houses into a densely populated locality surprises me. Despite the changes, my fond memories remain vivid.
Watching your captivating videos of Sri Lanka (or Ceylon as I knew it), I am enthralled by the infectious enthusiasm you bring to showcasing this paradise island. Some countries like Sri Lanka are blessed with their geography & weather. The population has access to delicious & ripe fruits.
It is me or the locals mostly eat plant base food? As it's an island I would have expected seafood / fish to be more popular & affordable.

Yes a really lovely place to spend some time. It had such a nice vibe. ❤️
It seemed that most people there were eating plant based food. I think although meat and fish are available they are considered luxury items so it boils down to economics.
The great thing is the vegetarian food is still so delicious, wholesome and healthy. I think obesity is not a problem here as it is in many Western countries. Just goes to show, having access to more variety of food doesn't necessarily mean you eat better for yourself. 🤔

The buses are cheap and plentiful and go everywhere. On the downside they always seem to be very busy as everyone uses them so sometimes you may be standing for the journey. The driving can be pretty wild too. 😬
Trains are great and cheap also. Safer overall I'd say and more comfortable. I'd always opt for the train if there is a choice. 👍
19:01 it's called a bitter gourd or bitter melon. Usually we cook it as a curry. It's bitter but tasty as a curry. And some people chop it up finely and make it into a salad with onions, salt and lemon juice. It's a good vegetable to lower sugar for anyone with diabetes.

It is my favorite salad. The only place I can find it is at our only local Chinese supermarket. But so expensive.

Hello Steve. There is soooo much excellent vegetarian food in Sri Lanka... both from individual choice and also because meat is so expensive there. I found it easy to eat a mainly plant-based diet, without any thought... but could have eaten purely vegan if I had so chosen. Thank you so much for your lovely comment 🙏🤗😊
Once, there was a terrorist group called the LTTE occupying this area for more than 30 years. it's nice to see this place free and prospering again.
It's great to know that the conflict is over and people can rebuild their lives. Hopefully for them tourism will grow now and everyone can benefit from that. 🙏🇱🇰

You are always eating from street stalls. Do you ever suffer Delhi Belly ( or whatever the Sri Lankan equivalent is)?
We've had the odd occasion over the years but I think your body adjusts to the different kinds of food over time. We had no trouble at all in Sri Lanka. We felt the hygiene standards were good there. And the food is delicious 😋
