    Many years ago my neighbor had a pond with 1000s of large mouth bass. Couldn't catch anything bigger than 14 inches. Most were stunted or had worms. We pitched 100s of them that had defects. Within 5 years we caught 5 pounds and bigger bass. My biggest ended up being 10+ pounds here in eastern Kansas.. Informative man right there.

    Excellent Informational Video!!!!!!!! Before I watched this video I was planning to leave my abundant small (6 inchish) Crappie in my pond in hopes that they would grow. Now I suspect my Crappie population is stunted. I suspect I have a lack of food supply for my small pond. Sometimes I stock several thousand Flathead minnows but that only helps a little and for a very short time.
    BTW: Blue Gill and Catfish will eat dog food. Bass and Crappie will NOT eat dog food.

    Hey bud do you know anything about high rock lake in Lexington Nc.There's no size limit or daily limit. You see tons of people everyday keeping hundred two hundred fish. Just wondering how long they'll let that go one before placing a limit.

  • @davidarwood6264
    @davidarwood6264 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "What's a trout? ".....I'm glad I don't anywhere close. Every kind of fishing is very much secondary to trout fishing , for me.

  • @larrytischler570
    @larrytischler570 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I thought the fish come shallow to spawn in lakes with heavy pressure from egg feeders.
    And as far as predators, the number one is the cormorant. We had over half our small crappie being caught with marks from the bird's bills. Then the whole crappie population plunged. They need an open season on comorants.

    I moved 7 crappie to a bigger pond. Will they find each other? And how long will it take to start catching crappie?

    With the new electronics on the market today you might want to reconsider the limit ......js!

      Better idea is to outlaw the damn livescope. If you can't catch without it then you are not a fisherman. Livescope turns fishing into a video game

    About what should turbidity read when crappie are in shallow spawning areas?

  • @thomasthesing7452
    @thomasthesing7452 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: can we tell the stage of spawning by the color or veins in the egg sack?

    • @crappieconnection
      @crappieconnection  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bloody and deep orange usual means activity spawning

  • @jasonamond6218
    @jasonamond6218 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Anybody with common sense or that crappie fishes year round knows that crappie only spawn once a year. During the fall when the water temp is around 60’ to 64’ do the crappie have eggs in them ? NOPE!

  • @scottywalters5573
    @scottywalters5573 ปีที่แล้ว

    Granada lake limit goes against what your saying because it produces as big of crappie as anywhere in the country

    I wish more TH-cam folks understood how to handle fish they don't want to eat. Biologists need to a much better job of getting the facts out.

    Took me years between reading and actual fishing (research) to learn my fish and how,where,when to look for and catch them.
    I feel any dolt can go out there and catch fish with livescope.This isn't fishing,it's just playing a sort of arcade game... It takes next to no skill or knowledge to play that game,certainly no where near as much as it takes to out there with no sonar unit at all.Heck,I have a 7SV but I use it 99% of the time to find structure that I didn't know was there,it floods a few times a year here in PA and there is always new structure in new places.
    I think if one wants to do tournaments,and IDC what species it's for,the use of electronics leading up to the tourney,fine,but when tourney day hits you better not have one mounted.Or they shouldn't have the ability to use anything more than say that SV....maybe even just a DV.Want to play in a tourney,then you better be in shape for it and that means know your fish and their habits and not rely on electronics to tell you where they are.
    I used to be big into those bass shows,back when I was a teen.I outgrew that long ago for a few different reasons.Biggest thing was bass fishing became boring,my PB's then were 24 and 24.5",they hit anything that moves,even when they're not hungry and are the 2nd easiest fish to catch.40yrs later I hate catching bass because they're still boring and are in the same places other fish I'm targeting are and you have to weed through the stinking things.They're bland to eat,the coons and minks love them though.At least the easiest fish to catch (Bluegill and Sunnies) are good to eat and also great bait for numerous other species.
    I read a thing about the mortality of fish,was on bass way back then,of catching them in hot water.....they still have those tourney's though....lol. Not that I care if the bass make it or not,like carp...but these other fish,Musky,Pike,Striper,Crappie,Whitebass,Rockbass,etc. do.There's a lot of imbeciles targeting Musky here during the summer and fall in hot water...."Oh it swam off healthy"..yeah it swam off but it more than likely didn't make it.. The authorities should regulate the seasons around that also for those less numerous and easier stressed fish like the Musky.
    I know this is a old video but I have a question about Rockbass if this can be passed onto Josh or anyone with equal knowledge who would also know.They used to be very numerous here in my area of PA up to 11-12" back in the 80's and 90's.Now you rarely catch any and they're no more than 8-9" and if that when you do.Is there or was there a disease or maybe a pollutant that could have wiped them out? I catch maybe 3-4 a year while out catching my bait for Catfish but I release them all hoping they'll one day make a comeback.I live along a decent size river Susquehanna drainage system that feeds a 28 mile long USACE lake that is up to 1.5mile wide and 200' deep in some areas.They were my favorite fish to eat.
