When I were a lad, about 14-15 my dads pal turned up to a wedding party we were hosting,in a brand new W126 in that same gold colour. A little later my dad asked him to move it further round into the yard to make space for other guests cars,he just threw the keys at me and said "there you go lad, take it up the garden if you like",so eagerly I jumped in it,blown away by it all, carefully nudging round to the back of the house to where the garages are, with no intentions of 'taking it up the garden'. At which point he came bowling round the back of the house got me to 'budge over' then proceeded to tear around one of our fields like a maniac,he then stopped and expected me do the same,it was the best day ever at that point. My overiding memory of that car was how it brushed off bumps, holes and undulations like no other car ever, those for me were the pinnacle of Mercedes cars in terms of overall finish/polish and durability.I've spent all my life in the motor trade and never made any money repairing Mercs of that era, they just didn't need much more than regular servicing. With the newer stuff it just isn't so,I see plenty of them now.
Very nice video! Thank you so much for all your efforts. And please make more. It makes me want to drive down to Long Beach California and visit our own Mercedes Classic Center. I’m not sure but I think I remember hearing it’s the only one outside of Germany. Anyway, Thank you once again! From Los Angeles.

Just a few things: 1. That black 190E in the shop, was it a Cosworth? 2. Moral of the story is if you're going to buy a Merc buy one with a big engine, because evidently for a barn find it didn't have as many problems as Alex said in previous videos. Also it passed an MOT with stale fuel and for Mercedes to want it back that must be something! 3. I want a Merc LOL

Great stuff, looks like this car is a bit of gem! One thing though, how did you get through customs with that GB sticker on it, they are no longer legal, you must now display a UK sticker and remove or cover up any GB ones, you got lucky there!
It’s the first time I’ve bothered to put a sticker on at all. I just had it laying around and the main motivation was the cover the slight marks in the paint where the badge used to be. Normally I don’t have a sticker and no one has ever looked twice
Used parts from reputable sellers on eBay, or new parts from your Mercedes dealer. Mercedes are opening an e-commerce soon so it will be much easier to check the price and order from them
I have a 1999 R129 SL320 and just took the hard top off for Summer. The convertible roof came up and the roll bar did likewise, but now the roll bar will not retract so the roof will not fold down.
