When I was in Jr High; Mystery Theatre broadcasted on Sunday evenings (WSBT) AM radio 960. South Bend, IN. I never missed an episode. That was in 1974. I enjoy listening just as much today as I did back then.
Same except I listened on KFI on Sunday nights in Los Angeles in the mid late 1970s. I was obsessed with this show. Our family would eat dinner out & then we would listen on the way to drop off my step brother & sister at their moms house. If I was home I would turn down the volume on my little clock radio the lowest it would go & put it up to my ear so my parents wouldn’t hear it since the show came on after my bedtime. The show was scary, but not too scary for a little kid. The music at the beginning used to scare the bejesus out of me though. Ahh memories. Hi to all us 1970s kids on here who loved this show.
its much more enjoyable conjuring up images in ones own mind by using his or hers own imagination then simply having it given to u by way of a visual vehicle. one mans humble opinion. oh and merry xmas to u as well ms chilly.
Right. Radio is THE THEATER OF THE MIND. Nostalgically these plays evoke the norms of the days long ago and give us insight. Radio was their television back in the day.
I was laughing when Muldoon faked that phone call, great episode. Really wished Shirley hadn't called the police in the end, but the circumstances would have sealed her fate most unfavorably. LeFleur's need to stay hidden and Shirley's desire to hide him all to herself was going to culminate as it had in Chicago at worst; at best, the Bonnie Carstairs mirage would mercilessly deliquesce before our and her wanting eyes. There was so much potential here; and at the same time it never had a shot.
If this was Nightfall, I assume after Shirley was dialing the police. The next thing you would hear was a customer ordering a special and Dr. LaFleur would reply back " One special coming right up"... All in all, a nice sugar coated conclusion altogether...
Oh, sammy! You really can’t help yourself, can you? Even when a man is the murderer, you’re still portraying the woman as very naive and rather annoying. You just can’t let Her be innocent and/or good, can you?
Another fantastic episode with Fred Gwynne. Good sound quality unfortunately the ending with E.G. Marshall Was cur short Enjoyed June 27 2020 In the air-conditioning During 107° day in Fresno California
Everything 's gonna,be all right . . . . I hate those words, because it's a lie. Time will pass, whatever it brings will come and either you weather it or you don't. Get real!
good script and acting - very intriguing - however - the twist ending failed to end on a dramatic high note - it seemed more like an anti-climax - i've become more impressed with Teri Keane after hearing her on so many of these radio episodes
The basic premise is interesting, but even the best episodes of CRMT seem padded. Every character repeats every dramatic beat and plot point several times.
William Norton I believe that this is a missing episode. It also is not part of the radio mystery theater. I think it was an after dark episode. I found the script online a year or so ago.
Chicken heart was originally broadcast as part of the lights out series they did an album in 1969 with a re-create some of the classic episode is available on TH-cam

That waitress never shuts up. The dialogue was so rough and annoying to follow, yes I realize the uploader has zero control over that I'm just annoyed that they let this on the air however many years ago.
601 is my favourite, but this comes a close second..
I love the dialogue.
Thanks for the memories. 👍
Chili, yogurt and tea for $2.06!!!😂😂😂😂 I wish prices were still like that!

I totally agree Leslie
I did exact same thing, same year in jr high school every night at 10:30 on WBBM in Chicago

Nice little story, love stories with Fred Gwynne in them.
100% agree! Especially the Walter Mitty like role he played!
I thought the character development in this was really on point. It was a pleasure to listen.
Like the illustration, brings back memories plus I like the story
I love RMT stories with Fred Gwynne. This was a great story. Thanks for the upload, Chilly. #chillysunshine
Great episode!
Relistening, I love the painting too.
This is pretty good! I love the voices! Good story too!
I think Sam Dan’s stories are always well done.
One I haven't listened to... Can't wait!
Brings me back to my younger years!
Good one! Thanks for uploading these. Binge listening during pandemic July 2020 Oakland CA
These three actors plus a Sam Dann script -- jackpot!!
Listening 7-24-20. Great story. Thanks Chilly 🥶

Hello William good we had TV in 1979 LOL
Exactly the reason I loved these as a kid…and still do!
Excellent story, very well acted by all the actors.
I’ll be listening tonight on a cold Friday night.
Great actors! I loved Fred Gwinn in the Munstors Series. Sad ending.
Feed me Seymore I thought it sounded like Herman
21 October 2024 - Listening from Kentucky on a frosty autumn morning. Great story.
Enjoyed this. Shame it ended abruptly at the end
Anyone listening in 2021? Your troubles will pass everything will work out don't worry.❤💯

Wonderful drama. I felt so sorry for them all.

Nooo! The ending was cut off! Dang it!
loved it thanks
Excellent story
Glad you enjoyed it Leslie.
Title. Ninety Lives ... Russell Horton is uncredited here but plays the mysterious stranger with amnesia. Listen for him.
I'm highly enjoying these Fred Gwynne episodes and this one is truly a mystery . Peter, Peter pumpkin eater was Awesome
Beautiful & sad.
Good story but I want to hear the end :-(
Great story. Too bad that the ending is chopped-off.
THERE IS NO ENDING .I didnt understand the end bit
I thought the man was a real doctor at first, and that at the end he might have fixed Shirley's leg at the end.
The actress played Martha Marceau on The Edge of Night.
😢 ending for us romantics 🌹
Awesome
Muldoon???
Wasn't that Fred Gwynne's name on "Car 54, Where Are You ?"
😁😁😁😁
OOH!! OOH!!
FRANCIS!!!!
Yes it was!
I laughed when the lady said "Hey Muldoon" and then I heard Fred Gwynne's unmistakeable and very unique voice answer!!
Yeah, I picked up on that coincidence too. Bet Fred Gwynne got a kick out of it too!
Thanks
That was just what the doctor ordered....muhahaha!

Looks like a cozy diner.
Reasonable moral.

great
Anyone know who played the amnesiac? Their name isn't in the credits.
( I suspect it might be Russell Horton )
Anthony Perkins I believe.

Did you get to check out that complete recreation of the Chicken Heart story?
Didn't know anything about it, is it online somewhere?

What’s your favorite episode?
Is that directed at me Leslie?
ChillySunshine yes. I’m curious to know your favorite episode
@@leslieludwick1321 The Vampire Plant. It was a reminder when Chilly's grandmother passed.
Go to The Devil's Boutique. It was a previous question that I had asked Leslie.

Sounded good to me. The waitress reminded me of Flo from the TV show Alice (Mel's Diner) only with an east coast accent.
