    Awesone... thank you. Had a Centaur given to me last summer here in the States. Lots of work, M2B needs parts, headliner issues, filled with rainwater over the engine. But I loved fixing it up and I love the boat. Thanks for the video!

      Thank you for the nice feedback. Yes, we had a lot of problems with the engine as well but what would be the boat life without problem-solving :) We wish you lot of sea miles and good luck with your Centaur! Vera and Peter

    You have done a great job on that boat. It's super to see another Westerly being lived on. Great name, too! Ours is 1972. They are becoming much more fashionable despite the narrow beam.

      Thank you Fairy Boatscurubbers! We are going to haul out Irreversibel in two weeks and further jobs are coming... but it's worth it, such a sturdy little boat :) What is the name of your Westerly?

      I just found this site today and subbed. It clearly demonstrates why the cramped, narrow kitchen in our first home was known as a 'galley kitchen!' Oh - and re the engine housing: wondered if you could cut and remake the top so it is hinged . . . maybe held down with a couple of bolts, or something?

    Great clip. I like that you didn't over sell. Both the good and bad things about the boat were expressed. Its not all unicorns and rainbows vs pit from hell. Every choice is a compromise. The other good thing was your ability to laugh. It shows you are comfortable with yourself. I am going to be on the lookout for more.

    Hi just come across your videos... FANTASTIC... I too am a Westerly owner. Waka Tiki is a 1979 Berwick. Its the same basic 31 footer as Irreversible but with twin bilge keels. I sail around North Wales and need to be able to take the ground... though my mate has a longbow. I sympathize with your frustration at the engine access. Been there done that! My engine is also the larger Volvo Penta, a MD17c. I'm a lot older and fatter than your good self and have, on a couple of occasions, got myself jammed up the side of the engine trying to reach the fuel pump and water impeller at the BACK of the engine (... thanks Volvo). This job is now easier due to the fitting of a speed seal. this years issue has been the engine cutting out 5 time while navigating the Porthmadog channel with wife and 3 young 'uns aboard! this Autumn will see a fuel system rebuild...joy!
    I'm sure you know of it but there is masses of advice and support from the Westerly Owners site at www.westerly-owners.co.uk.
    Fair winds. John

      Hi John! Good to see you here :) The MD17c is the next version after MD3b isn't it? I have just changed the impeller sealings....Jesus, It was an afternoon yoga. In the past week we were working a lot on our engine, changed the rings on the pistons and some modification on the cylinders as well. Will be shown in one of the next episodes. If you have time could you send us some photos of the interior part of your boat regarding that she looks the same inside. We are always interested to see other's solutions for comfort. Thanks for your comment and enjoy sailing on your Berwick! Porthmadog must be a nice place to see. Fair winds. Peter

    Did you say a Volvo MD3B ? If so that is a huge engine for a 31 foot sailboat. I know that engine well. 650 pounds and 36 horse power seems a bit excessive. Those Volvos are very reliable. I'v owned 4 of them. My 25 foot Westerly had a tiny Yanmar and it was perfect. I believe 7.5 hp. Great boats these bilge keelers. Yours is a beauty!!

    Hali!

    • @SailOverTheHorizon

      Balázs Kutasi a stoppolás nagyon jó ötlet, rengeteget fogsz tapasztalni és a saját bőrödön tanulod meg a hajózás csínját bínját! sok sikert a hajó választáshoz is!:)

    You should boil water for showering. You could shower everyday that way. I would explore self propelled generator systems to so you can use Electric Hot Plates rather than Propane to boil water. I want a big wide boat rather than short and narrow boat.

    • @detlefrieger8108
      @detlefrieger8108 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      showering in sunny regions can be so easy. Take a solar-shower. The sun heats up the water very hot only in a few hours. For example this: www.amazon.com/Coleman-2000014865-5-Gallon-Solar-Shower/dp/B0009PUT20

    Hi guys,
    Great to see a Westerly used properly. (we sail a westerly 33 ketch)
    About the noise of the anchor chain, ever considered using a "snubber" ? We anchor a lot and it is making a big different.
    Happy sailing and fair winds
    John

    • @SailOverTheHorizon
      @SailOverTheHorizon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John for the nice compliment! We had a good boat party on a Westerly 33 ketch recently - beautiful boat and lot of interior space. We use a snubber but the rope still makes a squeaky noise. We tried to put a piece of hose on the rope where it touches the deck but still - the noise comes from the cleat...
      We will put butter everywhere! :D
      Fair winds to you John and give a hug to your ketch

      Hi John,
      We really like our Irreversible, such a massive and reliable boat! (and also pretty:)) Usually we use a snubber, but currently we are mooring on a concrete block and the ropes make this unbearable sound even with the snubber... but we are getting used to it! What is the name of your Westerly?

    As a fellow musician (although much less of one, really) I was kind of hoping you could show us what choices you've had to make with your instruments & equipment as it relates to working for you on a sailboat. This is something I've been worrying about quite a bit myself, as I'll be moving aboard my own sailboat sometime later this year & have been trying to figure which guitars, effects, amps, etc. I'll bring, or sadly have to sell or give away...

      Well that was the trick! I keep all the gear in the doghouse and we are going to make an informative video about the gear and placement because we get a lot of questions in this topic. in your 11 foot camper it must be also a tetris game to find space for your guitar(s).

    Just found your site and subscribed. That the first Volvo Iv'e seen with a cover over the flywheel, Mine is a two cyl. would love to have a cover like that, Have you ever seen one for a two cyl? Your boat is a lot like mine a 32' nicholson.

    • @SailOverTheHorizon
      @SailOverTheHorizon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm,, I tried to google a MD2B with a cover but I haven't seen one. But in the longbow the engine room is small for the engine....or the engine is too big. I think they had to put a cover there to prevent an accident. I know nicholson 32 - our friend has the same boat. I think your boat is a bit faster :) By the way thanks for watching this video, hope you will enjoy these videos...lot of music though

    • @theislandpackrat
      @theislandpackrat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have way more room than I have! My boat is full keel and just have a two cyl. you could always try and find someone looking for more power and trade. Is yours fresh water cooled? If not you should change it just need a heat exchanger easy to do.

    • @SailOverTheHorizon
      @SailOverTheHorizon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes It is fresh water cooled :) We plan to change the engine in the future - still working but lot of things need to replaced (and it costs a fortune). Maybe in the hurricane belt we will try to find/buy from a wreck... untill it works we are happy! Fair winds on your way
