The thing that brakes my heart the most is that Kyoya was "expecting it for some time". That just speaks volumes about how he views his father and the treatment he gets. Oh, I want to hug him and take him away from that awful man; no person deserves that from anyone, especially from their parent.
It's quite sickening how common this truly is. Not to vent but I'm considered a star student and overall daughter in public, I'm respectful, responsible and top of classes but at home I get treated like I'm the family's biggest disappointment. My advice to everyone is to be good everyone, no matter how good it may seem on the outside someone's heart may be injured and needs kind actions to heal
@@princessash7484 SPOILER I like how Kyoya basically tells his dad "F*** you and your company" by buying the company back and giving it right back to him, simply implying he doesn't want it anyway😜
The sound Kyoya makes after his father says "is this how my son has been wasting his time" at 0:11 kills me... he sounds like he's going to cry or something.
0:12-0:13 Yeah! It's so heartbreaking... I want to hug him so bad!! Poor Kyoya!! And especially how he says he's been expecting it for a while! KYOYA WE LOVE YOUUU!
What's really sad is that in the manga, Kyoya's father is actually proud of him for his success with the club, for giving up his crazy obsession with becoming the heir and going his own way. In helping form the club, he chose his own path and had something that was all his, and he found a way to use the business sense he learned from his father in a different way. He found his niche. But the anime chose to turn this moment upside down and have his father be ashamed of him and basically disown him. It's heartbreaking because while Kyoya had mostly chosen to stop trying so hard to please his father, there was still a part of him that wanted his father to be proud of him. That small dream was absolutely shattered here. On a side note, I like how this anime showed the pressure kids had to carry with the tradition of the family business, to compete against your siblings, and battling between what's expected of you and what you want for your own life.
Kayla Gariepy agreed. They left so much out of the anime. I mean its nice to know in the end Kiya buys his father's business and gives it right back. But his father was much nicer.

About the glasses breaking, we need to keep in mind that Kyoya's family is quite rich, so he can afford high quality glasses that are likely more durable than normal glasses.
I've had loads of glasses knocked off my faces and the worst that happened was one pair got bent and was able to be bent back into shape. Also had a scratched lens once. I'm now over 35 and I've had a total of...maybe a half dozen pairs. And I watch anime proudly. screw on those people who call them cartoons.(I still watch cartoons on a regular basis but that's beside the point)
actually, i'm now on my second pair of glasses and i've been wearing glasses for idk 4 years...(i got those that i use now in the beginnng of this year) but my first pair are still usable even though they've fallen off my nose whenever i walked down some stairs, swinged too hard with my head, just looked down in general. glasses are actually very durable no matter how expensive they may be
0:23 How Kyoya pushed his glasses up since he's angered/hurt/ashamed, am I the only one with glasses who do that? Like, automatically, if I get annoyed, get a negative feeling, or when I'm about to cry, I push up my glasses.
+Jenny Nguyen I think we do that because it gives us a task to do that doesn't seem out of the ordinary, even if we don't need to push our glasses up, it gives us a task to do that should take our mind of the thing that just happened, also it's another way to do something to take other peoples mind off what just happened. Anyway that's my take on why we do that
From the angle his father slapped him, his glasses should not have broken. How ever, KYOYA IS MY HUSBAND AND I SCREAMED WHEN I WATCHED THIS HAPPEN I LITERALLY HATE HIS FATHER SO MUCH
This seriously breaks my heart, I mean you even hear him sound like he's crying/wants to cry when he's still looking down at 0:11 . Kyoka is such a calm, cool, and collected character; then all of a sudden he gets slapped across the face like he's nothing (it probably was a major blow to his pride as well since everyone turned and watched him) I don't find this scene very enjoyable since it I feel so terrible for him and I know what it's like to be humiliated in a way that felt equivalent to a slap across my face. We all (or a lot of people) know what it's like and we know how much that hurts.
It really angered me when kyoya got slapped like no joke I want to just wanted to crawl through the screen. Kyoya just got up and walked away he sounded so sad.
This is the first scene in which the twins are genuinely scared. I think that says enough in and of itself. Plus, this just further illuminates Kyouya's character development. It's painfully obvious why he's always the one who "sucks it up" and pretends that nothing bothers him. It's his defense mechanism.

It always bothered me how blasé the host club is about the blatant abuse they witnessed but then you see how uncharacteristically dark and angry Hunni gets when Tamaki's grandmother is introduced...
Bri C it sounds like they have never met Kyoya’s father before so they didn’t already have a strong opinion of him. They were most likely shocked at how Kyoya’s father treated Kyoya. For Tamaki’s grandma Kyoya who somehow knows every bodies business probably told them if Tamaki didn’t already. So they had time to form an opinion. We already know from Kyoya’s reluctant day out that he knows about everybody else but doesn’t like to tell anyone about his business and home life.
Yeah it was Tamaki. The line he says before the slap is “remove your hands at once please!” To his dad when he grabs Haruhis hands all dramatically, and then it cuts right to the slap sound

God as I grow older, kyouya has become more and more my favourite host club member. It was Tamaki when I was younger but as I grow older I realise kyouya's arc has a quiet sadness to it even if it ends neutrally. Like Tamaki, his family troubles are soberingly upsetting and one kind of wants a passionate love to heal that part of his life the same as Tamaki. But the great love we do see in his life is the one he has for haruhi, who is the only one besides his closest friend Tamaki, to see his true self. And then because he loves these two people maybe more dearly than any other one he knows, he in some sense lets them go. Its beautiful, don't get me wrong! He doesn't need it, but a very sentimental part of me wants kyouya to have a love like Tamaki and haruhi has too. Sometimes i think about how easily kyouya could have pursued haruhi, and how it must have been such a painfully conscious choice to not do it because of his love for Tamaki. And on a subconscious level, he might have decided not to because he just resigned himself to not winning her heart because his upbringing has just instilled this awful attitude of not expecting to have anything for himself. To expect only the worst possiblity. There's a resigned air to kyouya's character in the end even after his arc has loved ones showing him there's more to life than that... Anyway. I love kyouya. He deserves the world.
I've had glasses for three years. the lenses don't always break. most times they just get scratched. sometimes they pop out. sometimes they break. for me if they were knocked off the lenses just got scratched.
I think that one of the lenses likely should have come out, and I've had glasses for 12 years, and I forget how many pairs I've had at this point! And also, poor Kyouya!
0:07 you can see how Tamaki immediately is so concerned and shocked about what happened, and looks identical to here, 1:01, when the possibility that *HE* could be a part of the problem, that *HE* could be the reason Kyoya got slapped, made him react, he even gasped! And at 1:11, he didn’t want it to be true, and confusedly muttered “because… of the host club…?”
ok first of all it's spelled kyoya second of all that's so sad he gets abused like that third of all that's true u should never hit someone with glasses
for the glasses question; depending on the point of impact on the frames and the force, they shouldn't have snapped unless he'd been hit hard enough for a black eye, and it would have had to have been directly on the splitline between the front of the glasses and the side. knowledge from at least 2 footballs a day at school to the face, lifetime of specs and bullying.
Honestly, the first time I watched this episode, I wanted to leap up and defend Kyoya. I had to stop myself and remember that this is an anime, not real. I was *this* close to throwing hands with Kyoya's father.

Kyoya ;-; CRYING BC KYOYA THIS IS NOT OKAY T.T
Well someone just earned a free front seat ticket on my hit list!!! >:)
when his father slapped him my heart broke at the same time
I really like the part when Kyoya puts his glasses back on, that hair is beautiful.
I've had glasses for three years. the lenses don't always break. most times they just get scratched. sometimes they pop out. sometimes they break. for me if they were knocked off the lenses just got scratched.
His glasses might have been bent a tiny bit but not have broken. I've worn glasses for 6 years and never broke mine, but I get a new pair every year
I think that one of the lenses likely should have come out, and I've had glasses for 12 years, and I forget how many pairs I've had at this point!
There should be A second season, I wanna see how they're doing after all this time :-)
Plss the "Tootaly child abuse" in the background😭 1:07

I didn't have this on repeat for 5 hours just to make up scenarios about me attending the fair.....no not at all.
Same. I totally didn't nearly cry and I'm definitely not making an oc just to protecc Kyoya.
In real life.. is glasses would have broken...
Kitty Kat not really I have worn glasses much similar to Kyouya's and they fell a lot but never broke
**sarcastic mode activate** OH WOW FATHER OF THE YEAR!!! HOW LOVELY OH DEAR.
SENPAI NOOO!! 😰😰
1:05 his tone is so different, it’s so sad 🥺
ok first of all it's spelled kyoya second of all that's so sad he gets abused like that third of all that's true u should never hit someone with glasses
for the glasses question; depending on the point of impact on the frames and the force, they shouldn't have snapped unless he'd been hit hard enough for a black eye, and it would have had to have been directly on the splitline between the front of the glasses and the side. knowledge from at least 2 footballs a day at school to the face, lifetime of specs and bullying.
Honestly, the first time I watched this episode, I wanted to leap up and defend Kyoya. I had to stop myself and remember that this is an anime, not real. I was *this* close to throwing hands with Kyoya's father.
0:12 Omg my heart he sounds like he's gonna cryyyyy poor Kyoya cinnamon rollllllll. This is the only time I've ever wanted to hit someone that has glasses on while he's still wearing them. Break them. Get glass in his eye. *WHAT?* What?
no one slaps my fictional fraternal twin
Kyoya is my favorite character from OHSHC....meaning....
When his dad slapped him I wanted to reach through my tv screen, slap him so hard his mustache would fall off, and then literally bundle Kyoya up in a blanket and a hug
HOW DARE THAT BASTARD!!!!!!!!!! I CANT BELIEVE HE WOULD HIT HIM!!!!!!!!
kyoya is always my favorite character
