      Congrats Jay on reaching your amplifier audio Nirvana...How does the Mephisto Solo Monos compare to the boulder 2050 or 3050Monos? Do they run cool? or how is the power consumption /room heating (for lack of a better word).. for the class A design...

    Not surprised at the choice. Jay has been hinting at moving up the gryphon line for a couple of years. It always felt like about everything coming into his room was compared to a gryphon baseline. I have to admit I’ve always been impressed with their products and value yes value co,pared to other brands.

    jay. Great to hear what you have to say about this equipment. I can't compare my equipment to yours. I can tell you that I can hear on my system if the recordings have been recorded well or if they have been badly recorded. I myself have also had a lot of High-end and what I have now I am certainly satisfied with. Thanks again. What a beast of a blocks. I am happy for you. And now enjoy the good music and sounds. Greetings from the Netherlands Limburg Maastricht and above all continue with High-end...

    Of course everything has to do with listening room placement, distance, match of equipment and cabling and so on... And of course, how do I listen to music and what is my taste or what do I like to hear... Perfection in sound is not Perfection, but more that you hear what the recording is... What is definitely a fact is that what you have standing, that it definitely belongs to the top. I know that for sure. OOHHYEAHBABY 😉☕👌🏽

    Hi Jay,
    You mentioned how class D tends to sound somewhat congested during complex music passages. I’ve found the Purifi 1ET400 shares this trait. It’s a glorious amp for neutrality, but doesn’t seem to maintain layering like high-biased Class A or A/B amps. Thanks for pointing that out!

      I auditioned the ML33 different times. They are far inferior to many Gryphon amps which I auditioned. The DNA of all ML amps is not good enough. In stage depth, width, and height they are inferior. I also never auditioned an ML amp to be able to create diversity in height of voices and instruments. They all played voices and instruments on the height of the tweeter. This is a 100% Hi-Fi parameter.

      @@danlivni2097 When audio is your living, things change all the time. Audio is very complex. Due to the help of different specialists, we can adapt a lot more aspects than all other people in audio. Jay is a very honest person, and he says what he experiences and likes and loves. He owns some great products, but he also implied incomplete audio products. A friend of mine told me about this TH-cam channel. People who see audio as a hobby still do it by trial&error. Because the audio industry said that audio is all about personal taste. But I can prove by sound and stage that this is just one big lie. Based on the 100% fact that when you make a recording, voices and instruments have their own sound, as they have their own size (very small and direct) as they own a delimitation in space. You need a system that can reproduce this. Then you need to understand sound and music first. People have often no idea that sound is built on different properties. And you need all these different aspects to reach the highest level of realism in sound and stage. This is why an audio system that can give you access to all those different aspects will always create a much higher level of emotion. Each individual aspect of sound can influence your emotions when you are listening to music. Sound is not subjective but it is objective. I had to learn this as well. Because I was also fooled by the audio industry that it is just a matter of personal taste. But I learned what sound and music are. Then you become aware that they all lied. Audio is all about facts and the truth.

Let me know if you want to check out the Legendary Fixed (not bias) Pure Class A amplifier that doubles down on its power all the way to a 1/2 ohms. 3200 watts of Fixed Pure Class A. 200 watts in 8 ohms. About 270lbs each. I will send you photos on your email. Check it out. These amplifiers were built in 1988, very rare.

    Hi Jay, nice review here. Owner of the Solo model myself, and I would tend to agree. But there's a synergy matter in just about everything which isn't addressed here and which would make other great amps better than the Mephisto without sacrificing any of the aspects which you described. I'm a Tannoy lover here and own several models which includes the excellent GRF90, and it's pairing with my Solo is just excellent, but when I tried them with a friend's Pass XA160.8, which is slower than the Mephisto, the pairing was mind blowing, even more so at bass level. I explain this to myself through the fact that some amps are just too fast for some speakers which are also fast, and I'm talking only about direct dynamic speakers here. The Tannoy seem to benefit from lower slew rate, lower df and the degree of harmonic distortion built into the Pass.
    Another thing I'd like to mention here since I've got extensive experience with the Gryphon since about 8yrs now, is that the amp which is imho the best straight line from the signal to the speakers are the Benchmark AHB2. Maybe you'd like to try for yourself if not already done. They won't have the bass, the soundstage and overall power of the Mephisto, but god these are fast, neutral, dynamic, with amazing attack (superior to the Mephisto) and incredibly capable of reproducing the separation and layering of instruments. And despite being much cheaper than the Gryphon, they won't shine their full potential until you put great gear before and after them. Probably the best value amp on the planet, by far, since they also have other qualities which I didn't mention here.

    Congrats on finding your dream amplifier! One point of clarification though, it does not operate in pure 'Class A' at its rated power into impedances below 8 ohms. Nowhere in the technical details or specs does it claim to, only denoting Class A operation at its 8 ohm rating. With its rating of 1600 watts into 1 ohm for example, each amp would have to be able to dissipate that full amount of power in the heatsinks when idling which would put out heat like a blast furnace. Since Class A operation is typically about 25% efficient each amp would have to consume ~4 times 1,600 watts (~6,400 watts!) when that much power is demanded by the speaker load. Even if you provide 30 amp service to each amp that only comes to 3,600 watts which would be insufficient for pure Class A operation at 1,600 watts of output into one ohm. There are ways to avoid such extreme power consumption while maintaining Class A operation like having a sliding bias system which dynamically adjusts the bias to maintain the class of operation as power demand varies. I don't see any indication that Gryphon uses such a design and takes a more purist approach of pure Class A operation but only at the rated output into 8 ohms.

Resolution when it’s good is revealing tonality echo decay rise and fall, room reverb, these are the benefits of good quality resolution. Describing actual music cues must include these aspects. You should try some good silver cables. Nordost isn't pure silver cable's. But silver plated copper.

    • @bobbykingma4109
      @bobbykingma4109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was a Nordost dealer of over 12 years of time. It is not only about the material. It is also about the DNA they use and own. A cable needs to be linear to be able to let you hear all aspects of sound. But far most cables are emphasis cables, which means the manufacturer put the focus on a certain frequency range. All these emphasis cables will never let you hear all aspects of sound.

    • @bobbykingma4109
      @bobbykingma4109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you have a True High-End audio system without incomplete audio products, the best silver interconnects will help you reveal more details. But also a more layered mid-frequency range and even a better low end. But there is a big but. When you have different incomplete audio products within your audio system, silver will often not work the best way. And copper will be a better choice. But this is not based on what most people think. They will often blame the cables, but this is all based on their ignorance. As I mentioned before, silver regarding power cabels has different rules. I would never use silver for any power amp, preamp, conditioner, and source. Based on the fact that full copper will work better when you judge on all aspects of sound.

    Jay we love you man, appreciate all the videos. Hope to one day reach where youre at in the audio game. I am fairly new to audio, I just started last year during the pandemic. I am far from wealthy, and I have actually invested about 20,000 into audio which includes my 7 channel home theater, 3 mid tier headphones, all the equipment that goes with it and a strictly stereo setup. Now I am fairly invested in stereo and have virtually made headphones obsolete.
    I know your channel isn't focused on us newer audio generation who are just getting our toes wet. But I would really appreciate it if you possibly could take the time to make a video on what put you and further pushed you into this higher realm. As in that wow moment where you realized this amp, this dac, this and that made you have a audio changing experience to give us newer people a fundamental to strive towards.
    I have watched all your videos, and I do see you have your tier lists etc. Just doesn't really give me a foot hold on what to buy or do. I am currently very satisfied where I am at, but probably sometime in this coming year I will be purchasing a magico speaker; lower line 25,000 or under. As that to me has been profoundly amazing on my audio journey and think where I can settle for some time. The question is what do I accompany it with to bring it to life.
    The time I listened to it, it had an aurender streamer, not sure if it was an internal dac on the streamer or if there was another separate dac, connected to the moon by sim audio integrated amp; which I know you have mentioned that amp in your mid tier list. Just trying to get some direction on something that is attainable in my bracket and for others as well. That will not limit or bottleneck a 15-25,000 dollar speaker, I am sure a fair amount of your audience is capable of attaining that type of equipment. So it may help others as well.
    I would not tell you to target one specific case, or even my own, but just a general sense where to start from for everyone. Since not everyone has the same taste or expectations, nor is there any piece of equipment that's perfect in that bracket. Just putting it out there, and have no expectations from you just merely something to consider.

    Really high end or ultra high end system. Cheers. Think a specific amp have synergies with the system and works magic. Likely a different amp for a different system though. Don't think this would sound well with Avantgarde or other ultra high end horns with dynamics cone based ultra high end systems still couldn't match even likely with this or even better amps

    Hi Jay!
    I follow your reviews. I like your independence and your frank manner.
    You are in the Super-High-End segment, as you describe it. I agree.
    I guess you want to know what your system can deliver at the very best?
    I also love Gryphon since many years. Owned Gryphon and listened to many different models in many great systems. Always great. I'm not surprised that you came to this conclusion with Mephisto Solo. You said that they are as god as it gets. That's not completely true. Still your system can do better. I'm quite sure. How?
    If you want to go to the next level, you must try Bi-Amping for a while. Listen and learn and get used to it. Then try Tri-Amping. For me it is a new level of music reproduction, control and air and what ever you could imagine. 6 Mephisto Solo is going to amaze you. Big speakers with a lot of drivers tend to react very positive to Bi- and Tri-Amping. I'v been exploring this for some years now and think that this is the way to go. I'v got Tri-Amping and around 1500W in 8Ohm per channel (3000W total) . Around 4000W in 2 Ohm per channel . I never use all that power but headroom is good. The music reproduction is not all about the power, but it helps.
    You don't know what your system can deliver unless you tried this with the best amp, Mephisto Solo.
    I hope you try this and share it with us some day.
    I wish you a happy new year,

    Jay, something bugged me enough to come back and comment - - not because I have any problem with your opinions, we've all got 'em, so I'm not looking for a debate - but I think in this case you've given your viewers the wrong impression - -specifically, you're wrong in saying the reference Nordost stuff sounds bright. And for anyone reading this, I'm talking ONLY about the 2nd generation, the II's - - actually Jay, I know you've had Nordost in your system and frankly I don't recall all of your past comments about them - I only remember you running or speaking about the original Odin power cord, which if memory serves, you seemed to like, but regardless, no argument from me, the 1st generation offerings could be "glary" - - but the 2nd gen stuff is ANYTHING but that - - Actually, I personally no longer consider the 1st generation to be reference, so on that we'd agree - and - while I'm thinking back a bit, I used to wonder why you were running what I consider to be a dated power cord, that is, if you could deal with the cost of an Odin, it didn't make sense to me that you weren't running the II.

  • @doctordorkmeister5330
    @doctordorkmeister5330 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amplifiers should be completely quiet, and they certainly should not help the synergy of a system with cheap cables. The amplifier is best utilized as a metal detector for non audiophile copper. The louder the alarm the better the amplifier. Amplifiers that would tolerate or i dare say, improve the sonics from profane metals commit high order audiophile heresy, Klipsch agrees.

    In one breath, Jay goes on and on about the neutrality of this amp, then proceeds to sing the praises of the bass output. Jay, I commend your dedication, but in a system with so many revolving components, how can you ever draw any concrete conclusions?

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt
      @carlosoliveira-rc2xt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bass output doesn't negate neutrality. Most amps don't put out enough lower frequencies and if they do, it's somewhat fat and woolly.
