Just because you can get moe milage out of a diesel doesn't mean they are "Trouble Free" miles . Gas engines are cheaper to repair , cheaper to maintain and cheaper to replace . I agree with Mike , I think he made the right decision .
If we still had the big trailers and equipment to haul around we'd probably still have diesel. But, since we sold it all there's really no need for a diesel truck. We agree that it was the right decision! Lynn still has a diesel but it's the Chevy Cruze. Best performing diesel that has all the emissions, we've owned!
New diesels are a mess, but older ones are super good :)

@@WanderingWagners Hello I am French and I have a Chevrolet express 6.0 vortec, with 200000 miles and I tow a 5500 pound trailer, and the other day on a big hill my express rose in temperature to 230F, then after resuming a flat road the vehicle has returned to normal temperature, is this a normal scenario ???
Well done and thanks. Been out looking at a new 2500 today and every one on the lot was a diesel. The salesman was adamant that was what I needed, I am still looking at gas and you helped me decided.

Great video! I revisited this video the other week. It helped me decide to purchase our 2017 Silverado 2500 LT with a 6.0 gas engine. I also had people pushing me to purchase a diesel, but I'm pretty happy so far. One trip under our belt and the Silverado performed flawlessly.

This popped up on my recommended views and I revisited the video. I watched this video when it first dropped and it helped me reconsider gas for my new tow vehicle. I had (have) an '06 RAM MegaCab with the 5.7 and it pulled my current trailer well but with the 5 speed trans, it seemed to work hard in the NC mountains. It had 148K on the odometer so I decided maybe a new tow vehicle made sense. I have had diesels in the past and they pulled well but were hardly maintenance free....in town fuel could be hard to find and the winter brings on all sorts of new issues. I looked at gassers and realized that my out of pocket expense was way less on the initial purchase for a gas truck versus diesel. I looked at RAM, GM and FORD....I like them all and all are good trucks so I looked at the features I needed/wanted and what I price I could get it for. I wanted a 250/2500 series because I want headroom for a larger trailer purchase in the future. All compared my best deal for what I wanted was a 2019 F250 CrewCab XLT with the offroad package and towing package. It came with the 6.2 gas and a 6 speed trans. It pulls my trailer like a beast and I did not loose speed pulling Fancy Gap which for the east coast is a decent pull to test on. I can go from NC to Fl with the Cruise control on and had no issue...something I could not do with the RAM.

Glad to hear about your happiness for getting the Silverado. My last Silverado gave me 278K miles. There was nothing wrong with it...I just wanted a new truck. I'm sure our GMC will do that AND MORE. I've always loved the 6.0. Your on the right track for downsizing and selling the house. It took us 7 months to clean out the house and sell it. Tomorrow is the last day we will be a homeowner. YIPEE! Happy Dance!
The house has been for sale for more than 5 months without and real interest, just a bunch of lookers. Congrats to you though! We are very pleased with the truck and hope it continues, issue free!

Great wrap up of a great trip. I ditched diesel several years ago. Best decision I made.
Right now we see no need to return to diesel. If you read our shirts you can tell we were heavily involved in the diesel community, and we used to drag race diesels in the past haha but we are pretty pleased with our decision to ditch it.

I'm glad to hear the truck worked out for you with the Airstream. I think your point is, we all have to make the right choice for each of us. We knew the moment we bought our truck to pull our current trailer, we would be upgrading to a fifth wheel. Which means, we got a truck that could pull both. We have two kids, we need to the extra space. If it was just my husband and I, we'd "for sure" be looking at an Airstream and possibly less truck.
Exactly. If you know what RV you want to tow you'll better match your truck. We have always had diesel trucks before this one, usually a 1 ton dually, so we never worried about what trailer we might get next because we could tow them all haha but we knew we were getting this Airstream so the gas truck was fine and we were pleasantly surprised at how well it does. They're a perfect match. The dogs love this backseat area a lot more too

GM makes great towing trucks, they do not get the credit as they should. I have GMC 1500 5.3L and it tows my camper flawlessly and comfortably!

Totally agree with you guys, and you made the right choice. The diesels in the 3/4 and 1 tons are overrated. If you are looking to tow 10k plus day in day out, then you might be better off going to a diesel. But for anything less than 10k daily or 10k plus only on occasion, the 6.0L gasser is totally the way to go. On a cost per mile basis, the diesel is way more expensive when you factor it all in (fuel, DEF, maintenance, extra tire wear). Assuming you dont break down, over a quantity of 300k miles you would have to get something like 8-9 MPG better on the diesel just to break even with today's prices. Thats factoring in that you will get nearly all of that diesel upfront additional cost returned to you on the back end, which, good luck with that. And, the diesel isnt going to get 8-9 MPG better towing or otherwise. Thats a pipe dream. Its closer to 3-4 MPG better at best. If it were a $3-4k option and no DEF, maybe I would consider it. At $10k option and yes DEF, no way unless I simply have no choice. I would rather downsize on the trailer, which is what you guys did. Congrats on the AS. My boss just got one and is loving it so far. A little rich for our blood, but the quality is there.
dont forget the extra 10k in tax and excise tax if your a hard hitting excise tax state

I purchased the gas too. I checked both and the higher cost, maintenance, and gas prices of the deisel vs change oil and drive of gas made it a no brainer. Sure I lost some torque and towing but this truck does great. We have a boat and rv. We tow no issues.
And yes it looks great. I get compliments all the time. Add upgraded wheels and tires and it rockin.
We loved this truck and it did everything we needed. We currently have a motorhome and tow a Jeep

I love my 2017 GMC dually double cab with the 6.0L gas V-8 for carrying my 10.5 foot slide -in camper, which weighs about 4500 lbs. with supplies . Had to order it from the factory since nearly all duallies on the lots are equipped with the expensive diesel engine. It would have taken at least 20 years of driving to start seeing any cost benefits with the diesel, and that's assuming no breakdowns, which recent diesels are notorious for. The 6.0 gas V-8 is far more than adequate in power and durability to do the job. And maintenance costs are on par with a typical modern gas powered sedan. Couldn't be happier with my decision to go with gas.

Think I might get one for the same purpose. What gearing did you get on your dually? I tow a 3300 lb boat around through the mountains of Washington. The diesel is stupid expensive to maintain
Mike S - The 6.0 in the HD 3500 series only comes with the 4:10 gears (in 2017 anyway). I find the six speed auto very well suited for this gear ratio. I also live in Washington and most of my camping is boondocking in the Cascades, so lots of highway mountain passes and steep forest service roads. I don't tow anything though. The truck handles these roads effortlessly. First gear is short which helps get the weight moving with no fuss, while 6th gear is quite high for better economy when unloaded. In tow/haul mode, it rarely gets into 6th gear with the camper on which reduces stress on the transmission. With a camper and the boat you describe, you'll likely be in 4th a lot on minor grades, but it's still not revving very high. I've driven my truck/camper over Hwy 12 White Pass, and even coming up the steep western side of the pass, I had to slow down for the curves because the truck easily kept up with or exceeded the posted speed using just a light throttle. Much better than my old 454 which was hampered by 1980's emissions technologies. Depending on the weight of your camper, I expect while pulling your boat, you'll still have plenty of throttle remaining while climbing the majority of our passes, and still not rev the engine out of sight. My trip mileage with the camper has typically been around 9.8 MPG on curvy, hilly highways where you're into and out of the throttle constantly. On a flat, straight highway, I can maintain about 10-11 MPG. For me, this is very acceptable when factoring in purchase price and maintenance costs over the long haul.

You'll really like the dually. The handling and stability are far better, especially on windy days. In your case, you'll have so much payload left over that you might find it a bit firm riding, but that's better than mushy. I'll never go back to a SRW unless I go to a pop up camper or something really light, which I don't expect to do. Really like my new bigfoot with dry bath!
Our first try at full timing, we had a diesel pusher with no slides. Loved that coach. Always the same size, easy to park, set up and go! Now we have a 5th wheel with 4 slides and you have to open them up or you aren't getting in. Wish we could use a gas truck, but right at 20k the F450 has all it wants!
Which rig do you prefer? We didn't mind our other rigs but this one is just so easy with everything right there. If we didn't go Airstream I think we would have went class a. But, I think the quality of what we could afford was better in the airstream vs some of the class A's we liked.
I miss our Foretravel, as it was a quality rig. We never missed not having slides. With the 5th wheel, there are many challenges with slides, etc.
Bottom line, you have to adapt to the rig you decide to travel with.

Thanks! In those videos we used a Canon rebel T6i camera with a rode microphone. We also use a gopro. We list all of our camera equipment in every description of our videos too. We recently upgraded cameras but no videos are posted with the new camera yet. We use final cut pro to edit our videos
You went passed my 120 exit in Lima. I drive a tanker. Lol. Love your vids. I have had several diesels and got a f150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost and don't regret it one bit. Have all the power you need pulling out 33ft travel trailer. Need to upgrade hitch though for more sway control.

Mike I have the same truck with Z-71 package with the 6.0 (in red) and Love it. Also CDL for 46 years. We have a 29 foot Cougar and my only worry is finding gas and getting in and out of the station.. Happy camping!
I usually plan my fuel stops at flying J truck stops because of the RV fuel lanes and their discount. If we have to fill up elsewhere we use Google maps satellite view to see how big or small of a gas station it is. So far normal gas stations haven't been a big deal when we're towing the Airstream.
There’s also the Yorktown battleship and Clamagore submarine in Charleston, South Carolina - both very interesting to tour.
I too just bought a 2018 Chevy 2500hd 6.0l v8. Plan to do full time RVING, and I've always loved Chevy and owned a few. And that 6.0l v8 is just about bullet proof. I fully expect to get 300k miles out of it, and wouldn't surprise me if I get 500k or more miles out of it. They are a cast iron Rock solid engine, and that's why GM has kept them around so long. It's a work horse, It'll withstand any temperature you can throw at it and over load it. It'll keep on chugging. And I wanted something relaible so that's why I went with with it. With the diesel being a 15k more price tag all the maintenance fees and emissions these days. Really isn't worth it unless you're hauling 15k plus lbs every single day otherwise that engine will do just fine.
I'm very happy I switched to gas. We already sold our large trailers so we didn't really need the diesel and with it giving us constant issues it was enough

Just upgraded from a f150 to a f250 couldn't justify a 10 grand option for a diesel, I can't see me ever towing more than 10,000 . I'm on the same page as you guys

Wandering Wagners just curious how's the Predator generator been working out for you? and I'm not sure if you caught my edit but there's definitely Battleship Cove in mass and another great place to see is Acadia National Park up in Maine(no battleships are though)
The generator has been good. We talked a little about it in our previous video. We had to replace the spark plug at the beginning of our trip but it was great again afterwards
I liked the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson. I live near the Rocky Mountains, so the high elevations, high winds, and steep grades makes the gassers work extra hard, but I still own one anyways. My brother's troubles with his last PowerStroke(6.4L) turned me off from ever owning a diesel pickup myself.
We'd definitely like to visit Tuscon. We've been to Phoenix but didn't go further south that trip. Right now, diesels are just too unreliable for us to want one in a truck. However, my Chevy Cruze diesel has been great for 4 years!

Our Lance only weighs 4200 dry, about 5K loaded. Our 4.6 V8 Tundra pulls it great and I get the exact same gas mileage as you...around 9. I only wish I had a bigger tank and didn’t have to stop for gas every 100 miles!😢. Glad you’re happy with your set up. We’re happy with ours too and that’s all that matters!👍🏻

Those (pretty much all V8 or V8-like power) half-tons are totally fine up to 5k-6k lb loads. Above that is where things start to get, well, not as easy. There is actually a big difference between a 6k load and 8k load in my experience, especially when you are hitting grades, high ambient temperatures, high winds, etc., on the half-tons. Still enough engine power. Its everything else that starts being inadequate. Brakes, transmissions, gear ratios, tires, suspension, etc.
You’re pushing the limit on that truck. Just cause you can doesn’t mean you should.
I have the 2019 2500hd with the 6.0 and pull a 31' Airstream Classic. It's been great!

Really enjoyed the update. I'm about 35 miles NW of Philly. I have been to the Battleship NJ. It's in Camden NJ ( not the safest city) but it's ok along the waterfront. I do not recall how the parking is if you had the trailer. Not actually sure where you would camp if visiting. Def a cool tour though! I'm ex Navy so I love ships/airplanes.
We're familiar with Camden and other fun cities in NJ from my trucking days haha however we won't rule this out just based off of the city it's in. We will look into the parking too. Thanks!
The USS New Jersey is in Camden, NJ on the Delaware River. I have done a private tour of this ship years ago with my son's Boy Scout troop. It was just awesome!

Nice to hear your review on the truck. I am with you thought on the gas 2500 HD GMC/Chevy truck. The longest trip to date I have pulled 10,400 lbs 5th wheel is Alabama. It did a great job for gas, but we are heading north next on a 30 day trip. I am a little worried about hills and a mountain on I-75 in Tennessee running gas.
The trip was wonderful and we are bummed it's over. However we are looking forward to the next one! We have also since made progress on emptying the house out. As for your truck in sure you'll be fine. You might not be the first one up the hills, but you will make it up the hills👍
I just sold my F-150 and got a GMC 2500HD base. So far I don’t like the fuel mileage but I don’t have to bother with my axles weight. Like you guys, I am sure I did the right decision to choose gas instead diesel .
The last time I was aboard the USS Alabama was before you two were born. Two things that I remember were "Lead Dammit Lead" and it was hot as Hell on that old battle wagon!

Agreed! And, something that few think of now days is the DOT laws (and heavy enforcement of), that basically put you into 'running ILLEGAL' if you drive a 3500 (class 3) diesel dually and pull a trailer with GVWR over 10,001-lbs (unless you have a CDL)! The 'Days of the Dually' are OVER...and the technical problems with Diesels now (DEF requirements, etc.) put a gallon of fuel about $0.40 to $1.00 more a gallon than gasoline! I run a Chevy 2500HD with 6.0L Vortec, 5,000-lb Air Lift Airbags, and a 6L90 trans (GM equivalent to the Allison...6-speed manual-automatic), and there is basically NO GRADE I can't climb...even when towing my 15,000-lb GVWR 40-ft fifth wheel! The truck has 360-horsepower, and ample gearing to make it perfect for the job...at 9-10 mpg when towing, I can get 200,000...maybe 250,000 miles out of it before it gives-up-the-ghost...and for $6,000...can have all new drivetrain put back in it and do it again! You ABSOLUTELY CANNOT compare a diesel to this, price-wise or performance-wise.
Diesels may come into their own in the Class 4-Class 5 range, like hotshotters, who are towing 20,000-30,000 lbs behind them...but it just isn't there in the recreational range anymore...the laws are removing diesel convenience from feasibility, and the fuel and repair prices are already out of range. I'd recommend to anyone, get a 6-liter 3/4 ton HD truck, put some airbags under it for leveling, make sure you have 5-6 gears in your HD transmission, and STAY GAS...it's MUCH more affordable, and equally comparable to bigger diesels....keep in mind, 30-years ago, trailer trucks were barely able to acquire the horsepower that modern gasoline truck engines have!
By the way, any who are confused on all the GVWR-GCWR rules and regulations that push you into CDL (Commercial Driver's License) territory, it can be referenced on the NTEA website...but the 'condensed version' is this:
Your TRAILER GVWR controls your complete GCWR, relative to CDL requirements. If your trailer is rated 10,000-lbs GVWR, OR LESS, then you can tow it with a truck rated no greater than 26,000-lbs GVWR (a big rated dually), however, if your trailer is rated 10,001-lbs GVWR or greater, then the TOTAL GCWR of BOTH Truck AND Trailer cannot exceed 26,000-lbs! So, for all those 10,001 - 15,500-lb 40-ft fifth wheel RV's out there...if you are towing with a dually, you are MOST-LIKELY running illegal (as your truck is most-likely GVWR rated at or above 16,000-lbs)...
In the past, the DOT has not inspected RV's, and has treated them as 'an overlooked' class of vehicle...but NO MORE! Most states are now starting to enforce weight limits and CDL requirements for larger RVs (just like DOT watches for dually tandem gooseneck trailers behind duallies for those not in CDL requirements).
BOTTOM LINE: Duallies and 40-ft RVs will be a thing-of-the-past in a few years...because few will step-up to a CDL just to pull their big RVs!
I Tow with a 3500HD 6.0 and tow a 13.4k lb 5th... I love the truck and they handling. I put a tune, cold air and easy flow cat in which boosted hp by about 45hp. It tows beautiful. So,.. no you don't need a diesel. Thanks for the Video...

Good for you guys! As a mechanic, I can personally say I don't like new diesels, having to deal with them weekly. I have a 09 6.0L I tow a similar travel trailer with and would never want a diesel.

Ok Mike like the other comments go see the battleship USS Massachusetts in Fall River MA. I even slept overnight in it with my son’s boy scout troop one weekend. But on the way don’t forget to stop in to Groton CT. There you can tour the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear sub. Great museum, too. My son liked it so much he became an officer on the USS Wyoming, a ballistic missile sub. What’s better is I got to cruise around in the Atlantic with him for 4 days on a US Navy Tiger Cruise. Now I love camping and I love my Airstream, but that was the adventure of a lifetime! Go Navy!

I have a 2016 Silverado 2500hd 6.0L WT 2wd ( i didn't want to get the 4x4 ) and i have a 37 footer toy hauler and i love it and when we go camping we are loaded trust me we even bring the cat and of course the kids and 3 German shepherds and the truck performs super good

Cool video. Great assessment of the 6.0. I have one as well. My dealer friend talk me out of the diesel as he said at todays fuel prices it would take 100k miles to make up the price difference in the diesel over the gas. So for me thats a while. Come see the USS Alabama in Mobile, and while your down see the Navy museum in pensacola, and War museum in New Orleans. You can bring your dogs to the beach down here.:)

If you go to San Diego to the USS Midway museum you can hit the USS Iowa up in L.A. on the same trip. We did both on a short trip last year and they were both excellent. The Midway is definitely an all day activity (If not a day and a half). The San Diego Maritime museum is just down the street from the Midway and also worth a few hours. The Iowa in L.A. you can do in half a day. About 30 minutes from the Iowa in Long Beach you can tour the Queen Mary which could fill the other half of the day if that interests you.

USS Hornet Museum in Alameda California is a great tour! Lots of planes (including an F-14) and Apollo Program exhibits with great views of the San Francisco skyline, Bay and Golden Gate Bridges from the flight deck.. You'll love the Astronaut quarantine trailer as it is a Airstream! Have fun and hope the house sells!

Good to hear about the 6.0 gas and 8000# trailer matches well. We are considering getting another truck dedicated for towing our 8000 - 9000# trailer. Right now towing with a Tundra, and we are pushing the limits.

It is a very smooth and comfortable ride!
Weight on the rear axle makes a big difference. Empty bed or no towing and it rides rough but put some weight back there and it will ride great

My wife and I plan on leasing a Chevy or GMC 2500 HD with the Duramax. There is also the possibility of the new Chevy inline six diesel Silverado? We have a 24' 5th wheel. The jury is still out, but one thing is for sure...It WILL be a GM product!
If you come to Wilmington NC to see the battleship, you can also spend the day at Freeman Park in Carolina Beach, where you can take the dogs and drive the truck right out on the beach :)

When it cools off a little come to the Camp Blanding Military Museum in Starke, Fl. It has some of the best vehicles. On the way, stop at the Pensacola Air Museum. Of course y’all can visit us in Lake City as well.

Having grown up in the south, you will br go smacked once you finally make your way out to Colorado and the desert Southwest. It’s stunning! It’s funny that you liked Galveston so much. I grew up going there so much (born and raised in Houston). But let me tell you, its the ugliest beach in the country! Hahaha.... the gulf coast of Florida and the beaches of South Carolina and Southern California are the best around. The only downside of Southern California is that the water is so cold! Like 50-degrees in the summer. But it’s beautiful!
We've been out west in our camper and for other things but it was before our channel. We didn't do the battleship in Texas because we wanted to go East but we will be back!

Maybe even take the free ferry over to Port Bolivar and visit Ft. Travis (coastal artillery). Or visit the San Luis Resort (on Seawall Blvd, next to IHOP) that's built on top of one of the other old coastal artillery forts.

The battleship Massachusetts is in Fall River, Massachusetts; Texas is in Laporte, TX, just east of Houston (you had to drive past it to get on I-10 from Jamaica Beach), the battleship Wisconsin is docked downtown Norfolk, and the Lexington, another Essex-class flattop is in Corpus Christi. My Dad flew off Lex when she was still a fleet carrier, and then she was converted to a CVT (training carrier), where we made our first carrier landings during Navy pilot training. The Midway Museum in San Diego is terrific, and she's much bigger than Yorktown and Lexington. Since I know you like pizza, if you do make it to San Diego, I highly recommend Isola Pizza Bar, 1526 India Street, in Little Italy. It has some of the best pizza you'll find anywhere (and I lived in Italy). Everyone there is from Naples and they import the flour and other ingredients from Italy. It's the real deal. If you ever stop in New Orleans, make sure you visit the National World War II Museum. If your wanderings take you on I-81 in Virginia, not far from Roanoke is the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford. That town lost 29 soldiers at Omaha Beach during the first wave, all in Company A of the 116th Infantry Regiment. You're close to the Air Force Museum at Wright-Pat, so you might have already visited there. The Marine Corps Museum in Quantico is right off of I-95 and another great military museum. The only problem with it is I-95. Rush hour in DC is usually 24/7 now and weekend traffic is even worse than weekday. Annapolis and West Point are also great to visit, but take an Uber into Annapolis. Its crowded, narrow roads are a challenge for cars, let alone a truck. There are many more, but this is getting too long already. Safe travels. Fly Navy.

Wilmington, NC has the battleship North Carolina. It's a real cool ship to see. You guys should make a trip down the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina. The area is beautiful and there is lots to see. The area is much different from the gulf coast or Florida beaches. And we love taking our dogs on the beach! I enjoyed the video and you have us thinking about Airstream trailers again. We were looking at getting a Grand Design Solitude 310GK but I really think I would like the Airstream better. The only issue is it will cost another 50K more than a Solitude.
We've been up and down the entire East coast, just before we had our channel. That doesn't mean we won't do it again though!😁 How much is a solitude?
Wandering Wagners The Solitude we like is about $50-55K. I just traded my 2500 diesel for a 3500 diesel. I appreciate your perspective on changing from diesel to gas but I’m going to keep this GMC Denali diesel for a long while.
We ended up paying $80k for our Airstream.
I second the USS Yorktown their is a nice rv park called st James island country park that is also just 3 miles from folly beach so you both get the best of both worlds.

did you go to American Undersea Warfare Center in Galveston? They have the USS Cavalla and USS Stewart there, I was in the Navy for 5 years but i love seeing all the older stuff. We are leaving to go there Wed boondocking on the beach at Bolivar Flats.
We did not. We didn't really look for things like that when we were in the area unfortunately. However now we have reasons to return! We originally wanted to stay at Bolivar but we weren't sure if we could trust our generator and it was going to be hot so we just decided to stay at a campground.
Mike...just pulled Fancy Gap with my 6.0. Figured I'd share that we comfortably maintained 60mph (no cruise) in center lane. Had to brake for a car! Our TT is 34' and 8500# loaded

Visit a ship wreck still on the beach in Oregon. Wreck of the Peter Iredale. There is an awesome campground there called Fort Stevens State Park. Camping in the Pacific NW is unmatched.

I'm going to be moving from a 8.1 Chevy BB to a Ram 6.7 Cummins (like your last tow vehicle, but SRW). The reason being is we live in Colorado and want to do more RVing in the west. I think if we were out east we'd stick with the gas engine.
Hopefully you don't have the emissions issues or transmission issue we and so many others have had!

Norfolk is the hub of everything naval. One of my brothers was stationed there several times, and he have my parents a tour of his ship when they visited. They still talk about that trip
Hey Lynn, that's awesome that your brother was in the Navy. How long, and what did he do? I'm showing my age here, but I just celebrated my 29th anniversary in the Navy on July 4th. Erica and I live here in Norfolk and I am currently stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base with a helicopter squadron (FLEET ANGELS HSC-2). If you guys ever make it to this area, we'd be glad to show you around the town and/or tour my squadron and learn about the helicopters we operate. Erica and I just purchased our Grand Design Momentum fifth wheel toy hauler last month and we plan to go full time next year. Take care!
Two of my brothers were in the Navy, one was on a nuclear ship for 6 years and my other brother enlisted at 18 and just retired this January at age 46. He's been stationed what seems like everywhere. Norfolk probably 3x. Hawaii 2x and that's where he's continuing to live now is Hawaii, working as a civilian with the Navy now.
What’s the dry weight of your Airstream? Just curious because I have the same truck (except mine is white). Lol! I have a 30’ travel trailer with a dry weight of 5600 lbs. We haven’t towed any long distance yet with the new truck, just to local campgrounds.

We were around 8-9 towing and 14-16 empty.
Nice video. Curious what speeds you tow at, did you use cruise control, and what RPMS do you find the 6.0 typically towes at.
I run whatever the posted limit is, usually 65-70. At 70 the rpms are usually pushing 2,500. I run with the cruise control probably 90% of the time
9.3 average over 3000 miles is not that bad then considering the weight of the trailer. Do you think the airstream has noticeable less drag then a standard TT?
I feel like it has less drag compared to the trailers we've had in the past. It really does handle/ride better than anything I've ever towed.

That's a nice truck man and it appears you did make the right decision. Also I have some questions I'd like to hear your thoughts on, right now I have a 2000 Chevy 5.7 350 engine 3500 with a 8x12 stake body bed I don't ever tow anything with this truck but I do have the bed pretty loaded at times I have a 300 GAL plastic tank that I fill with asphalt sealer (when full weighs about 3,000lbs and a machine (that isn't that heavy I can lift it up) that sucks the sealer out of the tank, I bought this truck used back in 05 at the time didn't have many miles on it and was in great condition it has served me well through the years but as of late its been giving me problems so its time for a new truck I was thinking about getting this 2009 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 gas engine only 32k miles on it (it's almost like new an drives great) with a stake body bed (but smaller bed than my 2000) and I would be using it for the same thing do you think it would be enough truck to handle what I do?
I think the 2009 will do everything you ask of it and then some. We are towing 8,000 lbs and I wouldn't think twice about towing a 10,000-12,000 lbs trailer with our 6.0

Cruise control is a scary thing when it starts redline dancing 1000 miles from home!!! My 8.1 with the 5 speed Allison got that gas mileage from Atlanta to ny with the tools spare tires and a Miata on the back!!! I miss that truck!! 12 mpg unloaded!!! My 13 2500hd 6.0 gets decent gas mileage Towing but definitely sounds like it’s going to blow up going up hills on cruise control!!! Chevrolet for the win!! It won’t blow up

Forgive me if you have answered my questions earlier. What kind of mpg do you get in normal non towing driving? And wonder why Chevy doesn’t use the 6.2 in the 2500?
I usually get 13.5-14.5 from what I understand they don't use the 6.2 because it has an aluminum block.
Looking at replace my diesel dually with a gas dually for hauling my in bed camping. These 6.0 Chevy's seem like a good option

Can't beat Massachusetts for museum warships! The USS Massachusetts is at Battleship Cove, along with a WW2/Vietnam destroyer, a WW2 submarine, and 2 PT boats. The USS Constitution and a WW2 destroyer are also in downtown Boston.

There is a WWII German sub you can tour at the Chicago museum. Super interesting how the term “going to the can” originated from the German sub toilet not working so they would do their business in empty cans of food.

How many miles are on the truck now? I'm currently camping just south of Calgary, Alberta, and I've seen a few Airstreams come in, I looked to see if it was you!
The truck has 19500 miles on it now. I drive quite a bit for work everyday so it adds up fast. We really want to get to Canada to camp. We're really close to Windsor Canada
