    We used to build a crude version of this each time we were siding in the winter. Plywood box with a simple light fixture plugged into an extension cord.
    Would love to do something like this for all my adhesives in my truck overnight. I just bring them inside for now.
    This is a really cool idea for making a permanent solution. Thanks Rob

    Hey Rob. We use an old igloo cooler with a lizard heat mat . The mats can be bought in different sizes and cost $10 to $50. It is really simple and works great. We are in Rhode Island and it gets pretty cold here too.

    Great idea. Now I need to build one to keep things warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It can get very hot here in the desert.

    I am going to assemble one with a cooler and a reptile mat to help save some space. Use a reptile mat in the bottom it should help heat tubes of caulk and help with keeping things warm. The temperature controller will regulate the temp inside the box.

    I built one similar years ago for use in my wood shop. Had trouble with the bulbs burning out. Now I use a line voltage thermostat and a hair dryer. The hair dryer is safer since it has a thermal fuse incase something goes wrong. Mine is mounted on by shop wall and filled with glues and varnishes.

    All my silicone and MS polymer, and I have a lot. Is just kept in my van all year around. In winter time here in Denmark, it can go down to -10 degree Celsius/14 Fahrenheit . And both the silicone and the MS Polymer, works fine.

    never would have thought of this, going to build one of these. gone are the days from bringing in the glue from the garage to the house over the winter nights.

    Great idea. I would think using a small cooler would be easier and faster, though. Just drill through the side for the cord to your heater control and mount the heater control/bulb to a piece of scrap wood that can sit in the bottom of the cooler with some hardware cloth to protect it.

    We made one of these for our subfloor adhesives back in the day (mid 80's) back then I still lived back in Wisconsin and we worked rain or shine snowing or no snow. Pretty crude, but we just more or less made it the same size of the box the Tubes came in plus the material thickness and the 1" inch foam insulation we used. Had a light bulb in the bottom with a metal type grid on top of the bulb that all the tubes sat on with a hinged top of course too.
    Worked great at the time and certainly helped with keeping the tubes from freezing and with the ease of use!! Ahhhh the memories!! Don't care what anybody says... Hard work is a GOOD thing and the ability to preform it!! I've always been thankful for the health I've had!!
    Happy holidays my friend!!

    Im looking to do something like this but on a bigger scale for a water pump outside my cabin during the winter (below 32*). What would you recommend as a heating source? Box would be roughly 66"x30"x36". Appreciate the advice

    We just used a bucket put 2in kingspan insulation on the bottom and 1 inch around the side and put hot water in it. Held the mastics for at least 4-5 hours

  • @lordrichard8184
    @lordrichard8184 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That’s a great idea! We would just keep all the non freezable stuff in a 5 gallon bucket and lug it into the house at night and back to the truck in the am. Or ideally leave it on sight.

    I love this idea. I was wondering if any manufacturer had invented such a device. I was thinking more along the lines of a padded compartment with an electric blanket kind of function.

    right now i use a backpack, easier too bring in and out everytime as it rides in the cab. however the 18v heat blankets and m12 coat heaters have me thinking of creating something like this that would be self sufficient. i dont have the ability to plug in overnight only when onsite.

    This is San Diego again for what it’s worth if that bulb isn’t durable enough they make ceramic heat lamps for reptile aquariums That can take a pretty good smack without breaking and the last four years if necessary.

    Rob Robillard, have you had issues with the bulb or the controller? In your opinion. Do you think it would keep warm a 20x20x30 inch in 20 degree weather inside a shed?

    How bad does the cold air hurt the batteries?

    • @beeps7
      @beeps7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't hurt them really. But using the batteries or charging them outside of a certain temperature range (like below 32 - above 130F) will shorten their life.

    I like your hotbox - great idea on the control unit!...BUT we haven using the caulk warmer bags (arcticwarmers.com/product-category/caulk-warmers/) for the past few seasons - While they do not hold as much as your hot box we have found them perfect for smaller jobs where only one to three tubes are required.
