    Fantastic video series Joe, excellent stuff. For those at 12:22 in the video it seems there's a couple of changes to the Add-ons names in latest Blender (2.83.2 at time of writing): 3D View: Modifier Tools is now "Interface: Modifier Tools", and Mesh: 3D Print now has a hyphen, i.e. "Mesh: 3D-Print Toolbox"

      Edit never mind it was under the "official" tab.

    this is literally one of the rarest video on youtube that doesn't delete the default cube but everything else in blender tutorials :D
    usually the first job is deleting that cube :)
    thank you btw, this is really a helpful video!

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Believe it or not, my default scene, as you'll see in part 3, still has a cube in it, albeit the cube is changed in shape a bit and renamed.

      @@3dpprofessor yeah :) i have been following it and that's really handy.
      i also made up a "default_3d_workshop.blend" file. so i am still using the original startup screen but when i follow your tutorials i will open that file.

    Thx A LOT!:)
    BTW, I've been doing 3D since 3D Studio DOS r2 (way back in early 90's), then onto 3dsmax. In fact, I professionally wrote custom code for 3dsmax for many years. Along the way I peeked at Blender, but its UI was "less than ideal", so I deemed it not worth my time, especially considering I was (am) proficient in 3dsmax. I recognized its power, but "No thanks, UI".
    Well, Blender 2.8 has brought the UI into the 21st century:) So, I'm digging in now:) Plus, I'm heavily into 3D printing (in fact, I run the 3D Lab at my local makerspace). So, this video is really helpful. Thx, again:)

      P.S. Also, thx for the boolean add-on tip, as I have a need for such on a current project. Now, I know booleans can be "problematic", but I'll be interested to see how they perform in Blender. Are there "other" boolean options (add-ons)? Thx.

  • @Oldmanmatt

    Liked and subbed based on this video alone. I am @Jet_prints on twitter and Instagram, and wanted to learn how to do the boolean difference of the "Skull in the cube" print on my resin printer. I figured it out in MeshMixer, but it was agonizing. Someone recommended blender, but I had no where to start. I have watched a few videos, but none were as simple to follow and "basic" as yours. Thanks for keeping in mind some of us are hobbyists at best :)

    Helpful tip if you are using OBS to record these videos: you can add more than one chroma key filter and slightly adjust the settings of every consecutive filter to get rid of the shadow from your green screen. I dont want to sound too critical but it is a bit distracting as it ends up near the center of your video ~ I was wiping at it thinking it was a smudge on my screen hahaha. Awesome tutorial!

    Hi, I've just bought my first 3d printer and have learnt a lot from blender for the absolute beginner... thankyou for the time you spend teaching us. What I would love to know but can't find anywhere is to be able to create a crescent moon that is domed on the top... there is a tutorial showing what I need using autocad but I am just a hobbyist and want/need to stick with blender.

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would need a picture to better understand what a "Cressant moon that is domed on the top" would look like, but I can see 2 ways to do this.
      Method 1: When you get to Part 3 you'll learn about the subsurf modifier. Start with a cube, extrude and make a rough shape, then put a crease on the bottom, and subsurf and you may have what you want.
      Method 2: Take a sphere and boolean delete a cylnder from it.
      It all depends on exactly how you want it to look.

    The mechanics and interface seemed to change from 2.8 to 2.81 and I got lost about 5 minutes in. Also, not having the mouse highlighted made it hard to try and figure out where to click especially when where to click changed in 2.81

Just about... now with blender on the way I’m getting there. Shame it will only run Blender 2.79b as it won’t do OpenGL 3.3. But I know all the features / settings you have mentioned exist in the other versions. They’re just obscured in a menu. So now it’s hunt the option!!! But thanks for setting me off on the right path, or should that be plane?

    I'm a blender very newbie. I try to follow your video but at the very beginning, my 'cube' and thus also my 'floor' are opaque. I don't see the grid on the upper face. Probably a detail but how can I make them transparent like in your video? Sorry for this probably stupid question.
